To make Facebook Marketplace results more local, change the Marketplace search location to your area and reduce the distance or radius to the smallest useful range. If your interface offers them, sort by nearest and apply a local or delivery filter. These controls narrow or reorder results; they do not guarantee that every listing is pickup-only. Check each listing’s delivery terms and confirm pickup details with the seller before traveling.
What “local only” can—and cannot—mean
Marketplace location and distance settings change the area used to browse search results. They do not necessarily change your Facebook account country or the location attached to your own listings. The selected area, a seller’s listing location, and the way an item can be delivered are separate details.
There is no universal local-only switch established across Marketplace accounts and devices that blocks every shipped or distant listing. Available controls and labels can vary by app, mobile browser, desktop, account, and region. Treat location and radius as geographic refinements, and treat any local or delivery filter as an additional refinement—not proof that a seller offers pickup. [Meta Help Center]
How to narrow Marketplace results to your area
- Open Facebook Marketplace.
- Find the current search location. Select the location shown for Marketplace, or look for a location control in Marketplace filters or settings.
- Choose the area you want to browse. Depending on the interface, you may be able to enter or select a city, postcode, neighborhood, or point on a map.
- Reduce the distance or radius. Choose the smallest range that still makes sense for collecting an item, then apply the change.
- Refine the results if those options appear. Sort by nearest to put closer results first, and select an available local or delivery filter.
- Check the individual listing. Review its stated pickup or shipping terms and message the seller to confirm the arrangement and exact pickup location before making a trip.
The exact path and wording are not identical for every user. Look for the controls named or described as location and distance/radius rather than expecting one fixed menu sequence. [Meta Help Center]

Which settings actually make results more local?
| Control | What it changes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Search location | The area Marketplace uses to find listings. | It does not confirm that a seller will meet locally or offer pickup. |
| Distance or radius | How wide an area around the selected location is included. | It does not set the transaction method. |
| Nearest-first sort | The order in which results are shown by proximity, if available. | It does not remove shipped listings or impose a pickup-only rule. |
| Local or delivery filter | Further refines results using the option available in your interface. | Its availability and effect can vary; it is not a universal guarantee that every remaining listing is pickup-only. |
| Listing terms and seller confirmation | Clarify the delivery method and specific pickup arrangement for one item. | They do not alter Marketplace-wide search results. |
Why shipping options may differ
Meta’s help material says shipping while selling is not available in every location and directs users to information about local selling. That describes variation in sellers’ shipping eligibility; it does not document a universal buyer-side setting that removes all shipping listings. Do not treat a seller’s shipping eligibility as equivalent to a buyer’s local-only filter. [Meta Help Center]

If distant or shipped listings still appear
- Check that Marketplace is using the location you intended, not an earlier search area.
- Reduce the distance/radius and apply the setting again.
- Reapply any nearest-first sort or local/delivery filter that your interface offers.
- Read the delivery terms on each listing and confirm pickup with the seller; a nearby result is not, by itself, a promise of local collection.
