You can pursue Instagram sponsorships without a large following: make your audience and niche easy to understand, show relevant content, and pitch a specific collaboration that fits a brand. Instagram’s Creator Marketplace is one discovery route where available, but there is no verified follower-count guarantee for getting a deal.
What brands need to see from a small account
A smaller account can make its value legible by showing a clear fit between its content, audience, and a brand’s product. Instead of presenting yourself only as a creator with a certain follower count, explain what you cover, who you reach, and why that audience might care about the product. This is practical positioning advice, not a guarantee that niche accounts will be sponsored.
Make your niche and audience specific
Use your bio and recent posts to make the subject of your account apparent. Describe the audience in useful terms—such as their interests or needs—without claiming demographic facts you have not measured. A focused page about budget cooking, for example, can explain the relevance of a kitchen product more clearly than a general lifestyle page whose content gives brands little context.
Make the account easy to assess
- Keep your bio current and include a reliable contact route.
- Choose a handful of representative posts that show your style and the kind of product integration you can produce.
- Prepare a concise portfolio or media sheet describing your content, audience, and relevant performance information. Use actual account data and identify the time period for any metrics.
Meta says creators using Instagram Creator Marketplace can indicate brand interests and create a portfolio. Those tools help present a creator to brands; they do not guarantee a response or a paid collaboration.

Check Instagram Creator Marketplace
Meta describes Creator Marketplace as a way for brands and creators to discover and work with one another. Creators can join through Instagram’s professional dashboard, list interests, build a portfolio, and receive partnership messages in a dedicated folder. Marketplace projects can show campaign requirements and rates; the terms for a particular engagement still need to be agreed with the brand. Availability is not established for every country or account. Meta’s 2024 announcement described invitations to additional markets as planned and some recommendation features as tests at that time; that does not prove universal access now. Check your professional dashboard and local account eligibility rather than assuming the feature is available to you.
Contact well-matched brands directly
You can also approach brands whose products genuinely fit your content. Use the brand’s official contact route where possible, and keep the message short enough to scan. A direct email or message should explain the fit, propose a usable idea, and make clear what you would deliver—not simply ask for free products.

How to pitch a collaboration
- Choose a relevant brand. Identify a product or service that naturally belongs in the content you already make, and explain why your audience may find it useful.
- Offer one concrete concept. Suggest a format such as a Reel, Story sequence, or post, and describe the angle rather than sending only a generic request to collaborate.
- Specify the deliverable. State what you propose to create and what the brand would receive. Avoid promising reach, sales, or results you cannot substantiate.
- Include evidence of fit. Link to representative work and share relevant audience or performance data with its measurement period and context.
- Ask about the terms. Before agreeing, clarify compensation, deadlines, usage rights, exclusivity, revisions, and any required disclosures. Do not assume that a product gift or a Marketplace project description settles all contract details.
A concise pitch can follow this structure: “I create [specific content] for [audience]. Your [product/service] fits because [reason]. I’d like to propose [format and concept], delivering [specific asset(s)] by [date]. Here are examples of my work and relevant audience information. Could you share the budget and any usage or exclusivity requirements?” Tailor the wording and proposal to each brand.

Disclosure obligations depend on where you and your audience are, as well as the relationship and content. For U.S.-relevant endorsements, the Federal Trade Commission says a material connection—such as payment or free or discounted products—should be disclosed when you endorse or mention the product. The FTC places responsibility on the influencer to make disclosures and comply with applicable rules. - Use clear wording such as “ad,” “advertisement,” or “sponsored”; do not rely on ambiguous shorthand.
- Place the disclosure with the endorsement and make it hard to miss. For a Story, put it visibly on the image long enough to be read.
- For video, include the disclosure in the video; consider both spoken and on-screen disclosure. Repeat disclosures periodically during livestreams.
- Do not rely only on Instagram’s paid partnership label to communicate the relationship to viewers.
Instagram’s Help Center guidance identifies paid posts, gifted or loaned products, and affiliate-link posts as branded content requiring the paid partnership label. See Instagram’s “What is considered branded content” guidance. A platform label and a clear audience-facing disclosure serve related but distinct purposes; check the current platform rules and the laws applicable to your situation.
In the UK, the Competition and Markets Authority says a brand tag, discount code, or affiliate link by itself is not a clear ad label. The advertising nature should be prominent and apparent from the first engagement. See the UK government’s social media endorsements guidance for content creators.

What a small creator should not assume
- No universal minimum follower count is established by the official sources cited here.
- Those sources provide no small-creator sponsorship success rate or expected deal frequency.
- Meta’s statement that it had onboarded thousands of creators and brands in the United States to Creator Marketplace, in its February 2024 announcement, is a platform-adoption statement—not evidence of how often small accounts win sponsorships.
- A clear niche, polished portfolio, or Marketplace profile may help a brand evaluate you, but none guarantees a deal.
