In your first message, identify yourself, name the offer or request, and ask one simple next-step question. There is no established universal response-time target or best channel for every Facebook lead.
Set expectations before the lead submits the form
Tell people what they are asking about, who may contact them, and what the next step could be. Meta’s 2023 lead-generation guide recommends introducing the business and explaining what to expect, using a clear call to action, and avoiding unnecessary questions. Ask only for information your team needs to respond.
Route each submission with its context
Meta recommends syncing lead data to a CRM so staff can access submissions seamlessly and follow up quickly. Use a CRM or another monitored queue, with a clear owner and next action for every lead. The guide does not prescribe a specific CRM or a response-time service level.
Keep enough context to make the follow-up relevant and to manage contact preferences. A useful record can include:
#1 Best Overall
- The form, campaign, or offer the person responded to
- Submission time and assigned owner
- Contact channels the form and applicable permissions support
- The consent language and version shown, where relevant
- Follow-up history and any opt-out status
Choose text, phone, or email based on the lead and the rules
There is no source-backed finding that text always outperforms a call or email. Consider what the person requested, how urgent or complicated the inquiry is, whether the channel allows a useful two-way conversation, and how each channel performs for your own leads. Include permission, opt-outs, and complaints in that comparison.
| Channel | When it may fit | Before sending |
|---|---|---|
| Text | A concise update or an easy question, if the person can reply conveniently | Check the form disclosure and applicable rules; do not treat a submitted phone number as blanket permission for automated marketing texts. |
| Phone | An inquiry that needs explanation or a live conversation | Identify yourself and why you are calling. Check applicable consent, do-not-call, calling-hour, and call-recording requirements for the audience’s location. |
| A response that benefits from detail, links, or written information | For U.S. commercial email, use accurate sender information and a non-deceptive subject, include a valid postal address, and provide a working opt-out. |
This is a practical selection framework, not a claim that one channel wins. Review the form’s disclosure and contact preferences before using a channel, especially for automated marketing calls or texts. U.S. rules can depend on the technology, content, and circumstances.

Write a relevant first message
Keep the first contact recognizable and easy to answer. Adapt this sample to the person’s request:
Hi [name], this is [person] with [business]. You asked about [specific offer] through our Facebook form. Is [brief next step] a good fit, or would you prefer [alternative]?

For a text, send it only when the form and applicable rules permit. For email, use a truthful sender and subject, include the business’s postal address, and make opting out straightforward. For a call, state your identity and reason for calling. The FTC notes that state telemarketing and call-recording requirements can vary; check the rules for the relevant location.
Follow up without relying on a canned cadence
If the person does not respond, space your attempts and change channels only when the person’s preferences and applicable rules allow it. Make each follow-up useful: answer a likely question, offer a booking option, or ask whether they want further contact. Stop if the person opts out, asks not to be contacted, or the permission available no longer supports outreach.

Meta’s guide supports quick routing and CRM access, but it does not establish a universal sequence or a minute-based response benchmark. Do not treat a particular five-minute rule or a frequently repeated speed-to-lead statistic as proven for Facebook leads without a source that establishes its scope and method.
Measure what happens in your own workflow
Track the interval from submission to first attempt, successful contact, appointment or other qualified next step, conversion, opt-outs, and invalid contact details. Compare channels by lead source and offer, while accounting for differences in permissions and audiences. Meta discusses campaign measurement and CRM data integration, but publishes no general finding that text, phone, or email is the best follow-up channel.

U.S. compliance points to check
The legal notes here are U.S.-focused and are not legal advice. A lead-form submission is a record of interest, not proof of permission for every kind of marketing contact.
Commercial email
FTC guidance says U.S. commercial email must follow CAN-SPAM requirements, including accurate sender information, a non-deceptive subject, a valid physical postal address, and a working opt-out process. The law generally does not require prior opt-in for commercial email, but other laws may apply. CAN-SPAM also covers business-to-business commercial messages. For a mixed commercial and transactional email, the primary purpose affects how it is treated. See the FTC’s CAN-SPAM compliance guide and guidance on mixed commercial and transactional messages.
Calls and texts
FCC materials describe prior express written consent requirements for certain telemarketing robocalls and robotexts, as well as a consumer’s ability to revoke consent. The FCC’s 2024 order says covered revocation requests must be honored within a reasonable time, no more than 10 business days. That is a legal limit for honoring revocation requests, not a sales-response benchmark. The order permits one confirmation text only under its conditions and without promotional content. See the FCC’s 2024 order summary.
The FCC’s materials also discuss a one-to-one consent rule with a scheduled January 27, 2025 effective date. Whether later litigation or agency action changed that rule is not established here, so do not rely on it as an unqualified current requirement. Confirm current federal, state, and local requirements for your contact method and audience. The FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule guide explains the rule’s scope and notes that state requirements vary, including for call recording.
