If the damage is sustained or remains obvious after conservative treatment, replace or regenerate that passage when your workflow allows. None of these repairs can guarantee recovery of missing audio.
First, identify the kind of damage
Work on a copy of the exported track, then listen to a short section that clearly shows the problem. Inspect the waveform as well as listening: peaks with flattened or squared-off tops are consistent with clipping, while a single click or brief dropout is a localized fault. A sustained garbled vocal is a broader problem, not the kind of tiny defect that a short-fragment repair is designed to fix.
Turning the track down can create headroom for processing, but it does not restore signal that was lost when the audio clipped. Keep the original export so you can compare the repair and undo it if the result sounds worse.
Choose a repair that fits the defect

Repair mild clipping with Audacity Clip Fix
- Open the copied track in Audacity and select the short clipped section. Confirm that the waveform has flattened peaks rather than assuming every harsh vocal is clipped.
- Apply Clip Fix before other processing. Audacity recommends this order because later processing can make clipping harder to address. The effect estimates a plausible continuation across the flattened tops; it does not reconstruct the original signal. See Audacity’s Clip Fix guidance.
- Listen to the result at the same playback level as the untouched copy. If the repair affects audio that was not clipped, raise the threshold; if it catches only the most severe clipped areas, lower the threshold. Use the threshold cautiously.
- Compare the repaired section with the original. Clip Fix can turn the selection down to leave room for estimated peaks, so do not mistake a lower level for proof that the missing detail has returned.
Use interpolation only for a tiny local fault
Audacity Repair fills a very short selection by interpolating from surrounding audio. Select only the click or damaged fragment: the tool accepts no more than 128 samples and needs usable audio on at least one side to guide its estimate. It is unsuitable for a long glitch, a whole word, or a sustained distorted vocal. Audacity explains the Repair limits.

Be cautious with noise reduction and repeated processing
Noise reduction is not a general-purpose cure for a vocal that sounds synthetic, broken, or garbled. Strong settings can create bubbling or metallic artifacts, and removal may be unsatisfactory when the unwanted sound changes over time, is close in level to the vocal, or resembles it spectrally. If cleanup makes the vocal worse, undo it or back off rather than stacking more processing. Audacity’s noise-removal guidance recommends restraint.

If the defect lasts through a word or phrase, is severe, or remains audible after conservative repair, a clean alternate take or regeneration of that section may be the more practical choice when the source workflow supports it. That is a fallback judgment, not a guarantee: the cited editor documentation does not establish a model-specific setting or universal fix for artifacts from any particular AI music generator.

Keep the damaged export and compare any replacement in context with the surrounding music. Repair tools estimate or interpolate audio from what remains; they cannot promise the original vocal will be restored.
