File an Aadhaar grievance through UIDAI’s official myAadhaar complaint page, save the Service Request Number (SRN), and use UIDAI’s Check Grievance / Feedback Status service to follow it. If the portal fails, call 1947 or email [email protected].
What an Aadhaar complaint covers
UIDAI complaints can concern enrolment or Aadhaar generation, demographic or biometric updates, rejected or delayed requests, incorrect details, authentication concerns, centre staff conduct, overcharging or refusal of service, online-service failures, PVC Aadhaar delivery, and suspected misuse or privacy problems.
UIDAI may not control the final outcome when the problem belongs to another organisation. A bank must generally fix its own account-linking record; a ration, pension, LPG or other benefit issue may belong to the relevant department; and cybercrime or financial fraud should also be reported to the police, cybercrime authorities or financial institution. You can raise the Aadhaar-related part with UIDAI while contacting the organisation that controls the downstream service.
Complaint status is different from Aadhaar update status
Use the service that matches your reference number. UIDAI’s Aadhaar Dashboard lists separate options for filing a complaint, checking complaint status, checking Aadhaar status and checking update status.

A pending update is not automatically a complaint. Do not submit duplicate grievances simply because an underlying update is still being processed.
Prepare before filing
- EID, URN, SRN or another reference connected with the issue.
- The date and location of the enrolment or update centre, if relevant.
- A short chronology: what happened, when, what you already tried and what response you received.
- Receipts, acknowledgement slips, rejection notices, SMS messages and screenshots.
- A reachable phone number and email address, plus the applicant’s name and other fields requested by the form.
Share only what the official form needs. Mask Aadhaar digits in screenshots where possible, and never disclose an OTP, password, PIN or full bank credentials. Do not post a full Aadhaar number publicly or send documents to unofficial “support” numbers or agents. UIDAI advises residents to keep EID, URN or SRN details available for grievance handling (see its Citizen Charter).
How to file an Aadhaar complaint online
- Open UIDAI’s Contact & Support page, then find Grievance Redressal and choose Grievance and Feedback or File-Complaint. You can also go directly to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/file-complaint.
- Enter the requested contact, service and complaint information accurately. Current fields, captcha and authentication requirements can change, so follow the labels displayed on the live portal.
- Describe one main problem clearly. Include dates, centre details, EID/URN, earlier references, the response received and the remedy you want.
- Review every number and attachment, then submit the form.
- Save the confirmation screen and the generated Service Request Number (SRN) or complaint number. Download or screenshot the acknowledgement and keep it with your records.
For an enrolment-centre complaint, record the centre name and address, date and time, receipt, amount demanded or paid, and operator details if known. UIDAI states that enrolment is free, while some update services may have official charges; check the current fee for the specific service rather than assuming every Aadhaar service costs nothing.
How to track an Aadhaar complaint online
- Return to UIDAI’s Contact & Support page.
- Select Check Grievance / Feedback Status (also shown in the dashboard as Check Complaint Status).
- Follow the link to the current myAadhaar tracking page; UIDAI may redirect or change the route.
- Enter the SRN or other requested complaint reference and verification details.
- Submit the search and save the displayed status, date and response or next action.
Generic labels can indicate the stage of a case: Submitted/registered means received; under process/in progress means examination is continuing; forwarded/assigned means it may have gone to a division or regional office; resolved/closed means UIDAI recorded an action or response; and rejected/invalid can mean missing information, validation failure or the wrong authority. Labels can change, so rely on the wording shown on the live portal.

Check status by phone: 1947
UIDAI lists 1947 as its toll-free Aadhaar contact number. Its Citizen Charter describes a 24×7 self-service IVRS, with contact-centre executives Monday–Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The IVRS can check complaint status using the SRN. Keep the SRN, EID or URN ready. Use only numbers published on uidai.gov.in; search advertisements and agents may impersonate UIDAI.

Follow up by email
Send Aadhaar queries and complaints to [email protected]. Email does not necessarily create the same portal-tracking record as the web form, so ask for and preserve a reference number.
A useful subject is Aadhaar complaint follow-up – SRN [number]. In the message include:
- Your name and reachable contact number.
- The SRN or earlier reference and the date of the original complaint.
- A concise description of the unresolved issue and the response already received.
- The specific correction or explanation requested.
- Relevant attachments with unnecessary Aadhaar digits and other sensitive data redacted.
Other official grievance channels
UIDAI’s grievance-redressal mechanism also lists the web portal, 1947, email, chatbot, walk-in regional offices, post or hard-copy complaints, social-media channels and CPGRAMS. A regional-office or postal submission should include copies of relevant records and the original SRN if you already have one; keep proof of dispatch.

UIDAI’s Citizen Charter says grievances received through the web portal, email, telephone and other listed channels are normally expected to be resolved within 30 days, with a 90% service indicator. This is a published service standard, not a guarantee for every case.
- Follow up using the original SRN rather than opening duplicates.
- Call 1947 or email [email protected] if the response is missing or unclear.
- If the normal route remains unresolved, use CPGRAMS, the Government of India’s public-grievance portal. Register or sign in, select UIDAI where available, provide the original complaint reference and evidence, and save the separate CPGRAMS registration number.
CPGRAMS is an escalation channel, not a replacement for an operational request controlled by a bank, telecom company, welfare department or state authority.

Common filing and tracking problems
Lost SRN
Search UIDAI SMS and email, saved screenshots, downloaded acknowledgements and browser history. If it is still missing, call 1947 or email UIDAI with the date, contact details and complaint description. Do not guess the number or immediately create repeated complaints.
“No record found”
Check for a typing error, confirm that you are using grievance tracking rather than update-status tracking, and verify that submission completed. A case filed by phone or email may have a different reference. If the portal is temporarily unavailable, try the same channel later or use 1947 or email.

Mobile verification is unavailable
Do not assume every online complaint can be completed without mobile authentication. The live portal’s requirements control. If you cannot pass them, use 1947, email or a regional-office route.
The case is marked closed but the problem remains
Save the closure message, compare it with your original request, and send a follow-up that cites the SRN and identifies the exact unresolved point. Ask 1947 or email for clarification, then consider CPGRAMS where appropriate. A closed case is not guaranteed to have a universal reopen option.
The real issue belongs to another authority
Continue the UIDAI complaint for the Aadhaar component, but also contact the bank, benefit department, telecom provider or other organisation that controls the affected record. For suspected identity theft or financial loss, report promptly to the relevant police or cybercrime channel and financial institution.

Is filing an Aadhaar complaint free?
UIDAI’s grievance channels do not require a paid agent. Enrolment is stated to be free, but particular update services can have official charges; verify the fee for that service.

Check the update-status service for the rejection and follow UIDAI’s applicable update process. File a grievance if the rejection, centre service or explanation itself needs review; a complaint does not replace the update application.
Should I share my full Aadhaar number in a complaint?
Use only information requested through the secure official channel, mask digits where possible, and never include OTPs, passwords, PINs or full bank credentials.
