How to Check Where an AMD Processor Was Made

Check an AMD processor and its original packaging for an explicit origin marking. Learn what it can tell you—and why AMD’s QR authenticity check and company-wide manufacturing disclosures do not identify every stage for a specific CPU.

Check the processor and its original packaging for an explicit country-of-origin marking, and note the exact wording. That marking may identify a labeled product or manufacturing stage; it does not necessarily tell you both where the silicon wafer was fabricated and where the finished CPU was assembled and tested. AMD’s public disclosures describe manufacturing across its product portfolio, not the history of each individual processor.

What “made” can mean for an AMD processor

A processor passes through distinct manufacturing stages. Wafer fabrication is where the silicon die is produced. Assembly and final testing happen later, after the wafer is processed. A country marking may refer to a particular stage or to the labeled product, so do not treat one marking as proof of every step in that unit’s production.

Stage or evidence What AMD’s disclosures establish What it does not establish
Wafer fabrication AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K says it uses third-party wafer foundries. It identifies TSMC for wafers for certain HPC, FPGA, and adaptive SoC products, and GlobalFoundries for HPC wafer purchases at 12 nm and 14 nm nodes. These portfolio-level disclosures do not identify the foundry or country for a particular consumer CPU.
Assembly and final testing AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K says nearly all product assembly and final testing is performed at third-party facilities in China, Malaysia, and Taiwan. The statement covers AMD products broadly; it does not say which of those locations handled a specific processor.
Historic facility information AMD’s 2014 corporate responsibility report described microprocessor assembly, test, and R&D in Penang, Malaysia, and assembly, test, mark, and pack in Suzhou, China. A 2014 report is historical context, not evidence of where a current individual processor was made.

The relevant sources are AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K and its 2014 corporate responsibility report. The filing’s list of locations and suppliers should not be used as a unit-by-unit origin lookup.

How to check your specific processor

  1. Inspect the processor and original box. Look for an explicit country-of-origin statement on the CPU, its label, or the packaging. Record the wording exactly, along with the model and part identifiers.
  2. Decide which manufacturing stage you mean. If you need to know where the wafer was fabricated, ask that directly. If you mean where the finished CPU was assembled and tested, say so. These are different stages in AMD’s manufacturing disclosures.
  3. Use the QR label only for authenticity. AMD says genuine Ryzen and EPYC retail packages carry a tamper-evident security label with a QR code that can be validated with AMD. That check is for boxed-product authenticity; AMD does not describe it as a country-of-origin or manufacturing-stage lookup.
  4. Ask for unit-specific confirmation if the marking is absent or unclear. Contact the seller or AMD support with the processor’s identifiers. Specify whether you are asking about wafer fabrication or final assembly and testing. AMD’s cited public guidance does not document a tool that maps a CPU’s model or serial number to every manufacturing stage.

What you can and cannot conclude

An explicit origin marking is the best direct clue available on the unit or its original packaging, but read it as written rather than assuming it covers every manufacturing stage. A model name, a list of AMD suppliers, or a location mentioned in a company-wide filing cannot establish where one particular CPU’s wafer was made or where it was assembled and tested.
