Check a meme coin by its exact token address on the correct blockchain, then examine who holds it, where it trades, how much usable liquidity each pool has, and what any claimed lock actually controls. These checks reveal observable risks and limitations; they do not establish that a coin is safe or predict its price.
1. Confirm you have the right token
Start with the token contract address or, on Solana, the mint address. Copy it from a project source or market listing you trust, then search for that address on an explorer for the correct chain. Do not rely on a ticker or token name: unrelated assets can share both. Solscan’s Token Page documentation describes token identifiers and information such as supply and mint authority.
Before recording figures, confirm that the explorer page matches the address and chain you intended to inspect. Keep the address in your notes so that every subsequent holder, market, and pool check refers to the same asset.
2. Inspect holders and distribution
Record the raw concentration figures
On the token page or a holder-analytics view, note total supply, holder count, the largest holder addresses, and each balance as a percentage of supply. Review the top 10 holders and broader groupings if the tool provides them. A large holder count alone says little about ownership breadth: many addresses may hold only negligible amounts.

Solscan’s Token Holder Analytics guide, published June 3, 2026, describes concentration, wallet-depth, address-tag, and holder-trend features. Treat these as analytics, not assurances about a token.
Label major addresses before interpreting them
Investigate the largest addresses rather than assuming they are individual investors. They may belong to a liquidity pool, exchange, treasury, creator, locker, bridge, or another ecosystem service. Solscan cautions that these kinds of addresses can appear among top holders.
Keep the unadjusted concentration figure and your labeled interpretation side by side. A pool’s balance is not directly comparable to the balance of an unaffiliated wallet, but silently removing it can also conceal how much of the supply sits in that pool. If an address cannot be confidently identified, label it as unknown rather than guessing.

Check wallet depth and change over time
Pair concentration with balance depth and holder-count history. Look at how many wallets hold meaningful balances, whether large balances sit in linked addresses, and whether holders are increasing or decreasing over time. A rising address count can coexist with tiny balances, and a single snapshot cannot show whether holders are accumulating or distributing.

Some analytics products assign wallet tiers based on the value of a wallet’s wider portfolio, excluding the selected token. For example, Solscan documents tiers from Whale (at least $1 million) down to Shrimp (under $100). These are product-defined labels, not universal definitions of a whale or validated risk thresholds for a meme coin.
3. Find every material trading pool
Identify the pool or market address for each venue where the token trades. A token pair can have multiple pools, including pools on different automated market makers. Solscan’s Token Market page guide, published September 15, 2026, explains that its market view describes one specific pool, not all liquidity for the token.

For each material pool, record:
- The pool address and the assets in the pair.
- The balances of both pool assets and the estimated total value locked (TVL).
- Recent trading volume and transactions.
- Changes in balances or activity over time.
- For position-based liquidity, the position owners and whether each position is currently in range.
Repeat the check across the token’s material pools rather than treating a default market page as the whole market. Uniswap’s Explore guide, updated May 7, 2026, describes separate token, pool, and transaction views with pool TVL and volume information for supported networks.
4. Interpret liquidity beyond TVL
TVL is the value associated with a pool at a point in time; it is not a complete measure of how much a buyer or seller can trade at the displayed price. Pool balances, recent trading activity, and how liquidity is positioned all matter. In concentrated- or bin-based-liquidity designs, inspect individual positions where the interface exposes them: liquidity outside the current price range may not be available for trades at that price.
A 2024 study of Uniswap, “What Drives Liquidity on Decentralized Exchanges? Evidence from the Uniswap Protocol,” examines the relationship between liquidity depth, TVL, and concentration. Its findings support checking more than TVL, but they do not establish the depth or risk of a particular meme coin or other AMM.

5. Verify what “liquidity locked” means
A lock claim is meaningful only when you can identify the asset or position being locked and verify the rules that control it. Establish which liquidity-pool (LP) token or liquidity position is involved, the exact amount, the holding address or contract, the contract’s withdrawal controls, and the on-chain unlock time. Then inspect the relevant transaction and the contract’s current state on the correct chain.
Distinguish among these claims:
- Burned: an asset was sent to an address or mechanism claimed to make it irrecoverable. Verify the address and what asset was burned.
- Held at an address: an address has the asset, but that alone does not establish that it is inaccessible or subject to a time lock.
- Time-locked: a locker contract holds a specified LP asset or position under rules that restrict withdrawal until a stated time. Check the contract, amount, expiry, and current state.
An LP token or position represents a particular pool’s liquidity; it does not automatically cover other pools. A lock icon, scanner label, or project statement is not a substitute for the underlying address, transaction, and withdrawal rules. The reviewed explorer documentation does not define one universal locker standard, so verification depends on the chain, pool design, and locker contract.

| What to compare | What to record |
|---|---|
| Holder concentration | Top-holder percentages, with major pools, exchanges, treasuries, and other identified addresses labeled; retain the raw figures too. |
| Holder depth and trend | Wallet balance distribution, holder-count changes, and the period covered by the observations. |
| Pool liquidity | Distinct pool addresses, constituent balances, estimated TVL, and whether the pools represent material trading venues. |
| Trading activity | Recent volume, transaction activity, and pool-balance changes over a stated period. |
| Position liquidity | Position ownership and in-range status when the AMM exposes position-level data. |
| Lock terms | The LP asset or position, amount, holding contract or address, controller and withdrawal conditions, and on-chain expiry. |
There is no evidence here for a universal “healthy” holder percentage or minimum liquidity threshold. A number that looks reassuring in one context may be misleading if major addresses are unlabeled, liquidity is split among pools, or positions are out of range.
7. Keep a dated record of what you verified
On-chain figures change as people trade, move tokens, and manage liquidity. In your notes, state the observation time and chain, list the pool addresses you checked, identify linked or unlabeled wallets, and separate verified on-chain facts from project claims. This makes clear what the figures do—and do not—describe when someone checks them later.
