The answer depends on which Amazon screen you mean. On a Kindle, open Library or Home → view/sort control → View options → Grid. On Amazon shopping search results, select the grid/tile button if it appears above the listings; Amazon does not provide a reliable, account-wide setting that permanently forces ordinary product results into grid view.
Identify your screen:
- Amazon shopping: product cards on Amazon.com or in the Shopping app.
- Kindle library: ebook covers versus a title-and-cover list.
- Mobile browser: responsive Amazon pages or a requested desktop rendering.
- Other Amazon services: Fire tablets, Prime Video, Photos, Music and AWS have separate interfaces.
Change Amazon shopping results to grid view
On Amazon.com, run a product search and inspect the area immediately above the results, especially toward the right side. If Amazon is offering a layout control for that page, you may see buttons resembling tiles (grid) and horizontal lines (list).
- Open Amazon.com and search for a product.
- Look above the result cards for a view or layout button.
- Select the grid or tile icon.
The icon is not guaranteed to exist, and its location is not fixed. Amazon customer reports describe pages where the control is absent or where layouts change between list, grid and hybrid presentations (Amazon customer forum). If you do not see a button, the current page, category, device, account experiment or responsive template may simply provide no manual switch.
What counts as a grid?
A grid has multiple product cards per row. Amazon can also show two large cards per row while retaining list-style descriptions, prices and delivery details. That hybrid layout is still a responsive template, not proof that a permanent grid preference is enabled.

Change a Kindle library back to grid view
Supported Kindle e-readers generally provide a real Grid/List control for the book library. The wording and icons vary by model and software version, but the path reported for current interfaces is:
- Open Home or Library.
- Tap the view or sort control near the top-right (often three horizontal lines or a view icon).
- Open View options.
- Choose Grid.
Some interfaces separate the collection filter from the visual layout. You may first choose All or Collections, then select Grid or List. Amazon’s Kindle forum documents this control while noting that exact menus differ by device and software (Amazon Kindle customer forum).
If Grid is missing on Kindle
- Confirm you are in the Kindle Library, not another reading or settings screen.
- Install any available device software update and restart the Kindle.
- Check the model’s interface; older devices may use different menus or lack the toggle.
- If the option still does not appear, that model or current software may not support it.
Use desktop view on a phone
Desktop-site rendering and grid view are different settings. A browser’s desktop command asks Amazon for a wider website; it does not force product cards into a grid.

- In iPhone Safari, open the page menu and choose Request Desktop Website.
- In Chrome on Android, open the three-dot menu and enable Desktop site.
- Reload the results and check whether Amazon’s responsive layout now shows more cards per row.
Amazon’s mobile-versus-desktop behavior can vary by browser and stored site data (Amazon customer forum). The Shopping app has its own interface; Amazon documents features such as visual search and Lens, but does not document a universal grid/list switch for every results page (Amazon Shopping app features).

Why Amazon may keep showing list view
- No control on that template: Amazon may not expose a switch for the category or results page.
- Responsive breakpoint: a narrow window, portrait phone or large browser zoom can reduce columns.
- Design experiment: Amazon regularly changes and tests shopping layouts (Amazon homepage features).
- Surface mismatch: Kindle’s library control does not control Amazon retail search.
- App or browser variation: operating system, country, account and release version can affect what appears.
- Interference: an extension or content blocker may hide controls.
If the layout changes after a refresh, treat it as session, responsive or experiment behavior rather than evidence of a missing account setting.
What to try when no grid option is available
- Widen the desktop window. Drag it wider until Amazon can fit additional cards.
- Reduce browser zoom slightly. This can move the page past a responsive breakpoint; it is not a permanent Amazon preference.
- Rotate a phone or tablet to landscape.
- Request the desktop site in the mobile browser.
- Use filters and sorting. Narrowing by category, brand, price, rating or delivery makes list results easier to scan. Amazon’s shopping guidance emphasizes these tools and features such as Lists and Buy Again (Amazon shopping tips).
- Try another browser only as a diagnostic. A different result does not establish a supported setting.
- Clear Amazon site data as a last resort. This can sign you out and reset preferences, and it is not a guaranteed way to restore grid view.
Avoid scripts or extensions that promise to lock Amazon into grid view unless you have independently checked their security and compatibility. Amazon’s markup can change, and such tools may access shopping or browsing data.

Can you make Amazon grid view permanent?
For ordinary Amazon shopping results, there is no publicly documented, universal preference that locks every search and category to grid view. Where a control exists, the choice may apply only to the current page, session, device or experiment. Cookies, site-data resets and URL tricks are not supported permanent solutions, and Amazon can change the interface again. Kindle’s library setting is separate and may persist according to that device’s software.

Is Kindle grid view the same as Amazon shopping grid view?
No. Kindle’s Grid/List control changes the ebook library. It has no effect on product-result pages at Amazon.com.
Is there a setting to restore Amazon’s old design?
Amazon does not publish a general customer setting for restoring a previous shopping layout. You can use the browser and responsive workarounds above, but they cannot guarantee the older design.

Why is the grid icon missing?
That results template may not expose a manual switch, or the control may differ because of category, device, browser, account experiment or app version.
Does requesting the desktop site force a grid?
