Cancel NordVPN’s auto-renewal first, then submit a separate refund request. For a purchase made directly through NordVPN, its published policy generally covers the initial payment requested within 30 days—not most renewal charges or recurring monthly payments. Apple, Google Play, Amazon, and retailers control refunds for subscriptions bought through their stores.
Important: Cancelling stops future billing; it does not automatically refund an existing charge.
First, identify who billed you
Check your receipt, bank statement, or account history. The merchant name determines both the cancellation and refund route.

NordVPN cannot normally refund an Apple, Amazon, or reseller transaction because those platforms processed the payment.

Cancel a direct NordVPN subscription
- Sign in to the Nord Account associated with the subscription.
- Open Billing.
- Select Cancel beside auto-renewal.
- Choose Cancel auto-renewal and complete the confirmation.
- Verify that auto-renewal is off and retain the confirmation email.
NordVPN says ordinary cancellation generally leaves access available until the end of the period already paid for. A refund can change or end access once it is processed, so do not assume service will continue after money is returned.
Request a refund from NordVPN
For a direct purchase, contact NordVPN through live chat. Support can provide a verification link that opens the eligible payments in your account.
- Open NordVPN live chat and explain that you want to cancel and request a refund.
- Follow the verification link supplied by support.
- Review the payments shown as eligible.
- Select Refund beside the relevant payment.
- Choose a cancellation or refund reason.
- Select Submit and Continue, review the summary, and confirm with Refund.
- Save the confirmation email and monitor the payment status.
What the refund statuses mean
- Refund: No request has been submitted.
- Refund processing: NordVPN has received the request.
- Refunded: NordVPN has initiated the refund; your bank or payment processor may still need time to post it.
Who qualifies under NordVPN’s 30-day policy?
NordVPN’s published money-back policy describes a 30-day guarantee for the initial subscription purchase. It generally excludes later renewal payments, recurring monthly subscriptions, and payments older than 30 days. A recent renewal is therefore not automatically covered merely because it occurred within the last 30 days. Applicable consumer-protection law may provide additional rights.

Submit as soon as possible rather than waiting for the final day. NordVPN says refund processing may take up to about four hours, while the money can take up to 10 business days to reach the original account, depending on the payment method.

Apple App Store subscriptions
NordVPN says it cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases. Apple decides eligibility under its own rules.
- Cancel NordVPN in your Apple Account’s subscription settings.
- Request the refund through Apple’s official request-a-refund page.
Apple may approve or decline the request; neither NordVPN’s 30-day policy nor the fact that you cancelled guarantees an Apple refund.
Google Play subscriptions
Deleting the NordVPN app does not cancel Google Play billing.
- Open Google Play and select your profile icon.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select NordVPN, choose Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.
Use Google’s refund process first for a request made within 48 hours; Google says eligibility depends on the circumstances. After 48 hours, Google directs customers to the developer, so contact NordVPN support about an eligible payment under its policy. Cancellation instructions are documented by Google Play.

Amazon Appstore subscriptions
Use the Amazon account that made the purchase. Open Amazon’s subscription or app-subscription management, locate NordVPN, and turn off renewal. Submit the refund request through the Amazon purchase record or Amazon support. If NordVPN is missing, check that you are using the same Amazon account and device ecosystem used at checkout.
Purchases from retailers and marketplaces
For a code, gift, bundle, or subscription bought from Best Buy, StackSocial, or another seller, inspect the receipt sender, card-statement merchant, and retailer order history. Follow that seller’s cancellation and refund process; NordVPN support generally cannot override the seller’s transaction.
If the Refund button is missing
NordVPN says the control may be absent when:
- the payment is more than 30 days old;
- it is a recurring monthly payment;
- it was a renewal rather than the initial purchase;
- it was already refunded;
- Apple, Amazon, Google Play, or a retailer processed it; or
- the account cannot be matched to the eligible transaction.
Check the original receipt and bank statement, confirm the purchase date and merchant, and review the relevant Apple, Google, Amazon, PayPal, or retailer records. If the payment appears to meet NordVPN’s policy but no control appears, contact live chat with your transaction ID, receipt, amount, date, and account email. Do not delete the app and assume billing stopped.
Other situations to handle carefully
Unauthorized charge
First check whether another household member used the account and review Nord Account billing history. Contact NordVPN promptly. If the charge is genuinely unauthorized, notify your card issuer or payment provider. Treat this separately from a normal change-of-mind refund; an immediate chargeback can complicate account resolution.

No conventional website free trial
NordVPN says its website does not offer a normal free trial. You are charged first and must request a refund if the initial purchase is eligible. NordVPN says an Android trial may be available through Google Play and is governed by Google Play’s terms. See its free-trial explanation.
Related Nord products
Make sure the charge is for NordVPN rather than NordPass, NordLocker, or a bundle. The cancellation path can be similar, but the product and transaction must match the account record.

- Cancellation confirmation and date.
- Refund request confirmation and status.
- Receipt, transaction ID, amount, and merchant name.
- Any support-chat transcript or email.
These records help if the subscription renews again or the refund has not posted after the stated processing window. Cancelling auto-renewal normally preserves access through the paid term; a completed refund may alter access.

Can I get a refund after a NordVPN renewal?
NordVPN’s published guarantee generally applies to the initial purchase, not renewal payments. Contact support promptly because local law or an individual decision may provide a different outcome.

Does deleting the NordVPN app cancel billing?
No. App deletion does not cancel subscriptions, including Google Play billing. Cancel through the platform or account that charged you.
Can NordVPN refund an Apple purchase?
No. Apple handles App Store refunds through its own request process.
Does cancelling delete my NordVPN account?
No. Cancelling auto-renewal stops future billing; it does not by itself delete the account.
What if I paid with PayPal?
Identify whether NordVPN or a marketplace is the merchant, then use that merchant’s cancellation and refund route. Keep the PayPal transaction record for support.
