To cancel a Google Play subscription on an Android phone, open Google Play’s subscriptions page, choose the subscription, tap Cancel subscription, and complete the on-screen confirmation. Make sure you’re using the Google Account that bought it. Removing the app from your phone does not stop the subscription.
Cancel a subscription in Google Play
-
Open the subscriptions section in the Google Play Store app on your Android device. Google’s subscription instructions also describe managing subscriptions through Android Settings: Google > [account name] > Manage your Google Account > Payments & subscriptions > Manage subscriptions. Labels may differ by app or Android version.
-
Check which Google Account is active. If you don’t see the subscription, switch to another account that may have been used to buy it, then check again.
-
Select the subscription you want to end.
-
Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts through the final confirmation.

Review the subscription listing or the original email receipt for the next renewal date and the paid-through date.
What happens after you cancel
Cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than ending access immediately. You can generally continue using the service until the end of the time you have already paid for. The subscription listing should show its status and relevant dates.

Uninstalling the app is not a substitute for cancellation: Google states, “When you uninstall an app, your subscription won’t cancel.”
Check whether your plan has special terms
Prepaid subscriptions
A prepaid subscription lasts for a fixed term and expires automatically. You may be able to cancel an unused prepaid plan and request a refund, but cancellation does not guarantee that money will be returned.

Payment plans
If a payment plan has already been charged, cancelling renewal does not remove the remaining payments for the current plan. Google’s general guidance says you remain responsible for those payments.
Pausing instead of cancelling
Some subscriptions offer a pause option. Whether it is available, and how long a pause lasts, depends on the app.

Cancellation and refunds are separate
Canceling prevents future renewal; it does not automatically issue a refund. Google says refunds are unavailable for most Play purchases, and eligibility depends on the purchase and when you request one. Its refund guidance says you may be able to request a refund within 48 hours; after that, it directs users to contact the app developer.
Google describes an immediate-cancellation option with a partial refund only for users in Israel, France, Germany, and New York, subject to location-specific conditions. If that option appears, choosing it ends access immediately. Check Google’s current partial-refund and immediate-cancellation guidance and the terms shown for your own subscription before choosing it.
