To estimate what a crypto presale purchase will cost, calculate the token price for the quantity you want, then add any sale-specific charges, the network transaction fee, and any payment-route fee the sale discloses. The token amount and the gas estimate are separate: gas depends on the blockchain and transaction, and a wallet’s quote can change with network conditions.
How do I calculate the total cost of a presale token purchase?
Start with the sale’s official terms. If it gives a fixed price per token, multiply that price by the number of tokens you intend to buy. Then add only the fees that apply to that sale and payment route.
Estimated total = (token quantity × sale price) + disclosed sale fees + estimated network fee + other disclosed payment charges
Keep the estimate in the currency each charge uses. A presale might quote tokens in one currency while requiring network fees in the blockchain’s native asset. If you are budgeting in fiat, convert each amount using an exchange rate observed when you make the estimate; rates change, so a converted total is time-sensitive.

Use the sale’s actual pricing method
For a fixed-price sale, the calculation is straightforward: token quantity × price per token. If the sale instead defines an allocation and a total cap, the implied price can be calculated as cap ÷ allocation, when those are the sale’s stated pricing inputs. For example, Metaplex Genesis documents this allocation-and-SOL-cap approach for its fixed-price sale configuration; use the actual configured terms rather than assuming every sale uses it (Metaplex Genesis priced sale).
Separate the cost components
- Token consideration: the amount paid for the tokens under the sale’s pricing terms.
- Sale or platform fee: include it only if the sale’s official terms specify a fee and its calculation base. A percentage may apply to deposits or another amount, not necessarily the token consideration.
- Network transaction fee: the fee for submitting and executing the transaction on the blockchain.
- Payment-route charges: include any disclosed charge imposed by the payment route you choose.
Label each amount as either a confirmed charge or an estimate. The sale terms establish the token price and any sale-specific fees; the wallet quote estimates the network fee at that moment.

How do I calculate crypto presale fees?
There is no universal presale fee rate. Check the exact sale’s official terms for whether a fee exists, what triggers it, and what amount it applies to. For instance, Metaplex Genesis documents a 2% fee on deposits during its deposit window for its specified priced-sale configuration. That is an example for that documented setup, not a standard rate for other presales (Metaplex Genesis priced sale).
Do not apply a sale’s fee percentage to your token cost unless the terms say that is the fee base. If a fee is charged on deposits, calculate it on the applicable deposit amount; if the terms describe a different base, follow that definition. Where the fee base or timing is unclear, the total cannot be calculated reliably from the headline token price alone.

How much gas do I need to buy presale tokens?
There is no fixed gas amount for a presale purchase. Gas depends on the transaction’s computation, and a smart-contract interaction can use a different amount from a basic transfer. On Ethereum, the network fee is calculated in ETH using gas consumed multiplied by the base fee plus the priority fee: gas used × (base fee + priority fee). Ethereum.org explains that the base fee is required by the protocol and the priority fee is a tip; the network fee rate changes with demand (Ethereum fees: what is gas and how to pay less?; EIP-1559).
Ethereum.org lists 21,000 gas for sending ETH, 65,000 for sending ERC-20 tokens, 84,904 for transferring an NFT, and 184,523 for a Uniswap swap as examples of different operations. These are illustrative figures, not estimates for a presale contract purchase. Do not use the 21,000-gas basic-transfer figure as your presale estimate (Ethereum fees: what is gas and how to pay less?).

Ethereum gas is paid in ETH and is commonly quoted in gwei. A transaction that fails can still incur a network fee, because the fee is due for the computation attempted even when the intended action does not succeed (Ethereum gas and fees: technical overview). Before signing, inspect the wallet’s transaction-fee quote. It is an estimate tied to current network conditions; the final fee depends on transaction execution and the fee market.

- Read the official sale terms. Record the token price or the stated inputs needed to derive it, the purchase quantity, any sale fee and its fee base, the required blockchain and payment asset, and any payment-route charge.
- Calculate token consideration. Multiply quantity by fixed price, or use the sale’s documented formula if it defines price through an allocation and cap.
- Apply disclosed sale charges. Calculate each fee using the terms’ stated base and timing; do not assume an advertised percentage applies to the token amount.
- Estimate the network fee for the actual transaction. Use the relevant wallet or network estimate for the purchase, not a basic-transfer example. For Ethereum, use the wallet’s quote in ETH and review it immediately before signing.
- Add disclosed payment-route charges and convert for budgeting if needed. Use an exchange rate observed at the time of your estimate and mark the resulting fiat figure as time-sensitive.
If comparing multiple sales, compare like with like: sale price or implied price, platform fee and fee base, blockchain and gas currency, estimated fee for the purchase transaction, disclosed payment charges, and whether failed attempts can still cost network fees. Ethereum’s formula does not establish fees for another network, and the Metaplex example does not establish another platform’s schedule. The exact sale terms and a current wallet quote are needed to complete an estimate.
