Choose your PS5 model before comparing Black Friday discounts: the disc-equipped PS5 offers the most flexibility, the Digital Edition suits an all-digital library, and the PS5 Pro is for buyers who value its enhanced performance features. Then compare the live price in your region, bundle contents, and checkout terms. PlayStation’s published Black Friday information is for 2025; it does not establish what will be discounted in 2026.
Which PS5 should you buy?
Start with how you get games, not with the largest advertised discount. PlayStation’s U.S. product page lists the standard PS5 with 1TB of storage and a Blu-ray disc drive, and the Digital Edition with 825GB and no built-in drive. PlayStation Direct lists the PS5 Pro with 2TB. Specifications, availability, and prices can differ by region and change over time.
| Model | Officially described configuration | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 console | 1TB; plays PS5 and PS4 games on Blu-ray discs and supports digital downloads. PlayStation U.S. product page | People with physical games, who borrow or buy discs, or who want the option to use either format. |
| PS5 Digital Edition | 825GB; no built-in disc drive. PlayStation U.S. product page | People who buy and play games digitally and do not need a built-in drive. |
| PS5 Pro | 2TB listed by PlayStation Direct; PlayStation describes advanced ray tracing, image clarity, and higher frame rates in enhanced games. PlayStation Direct and PlayStation Gift Guide | People who prioritize the Pro model’s stated performance features enough to consider its price. |
Choose the disc model if physical games matter
The disc PS5 can use compatible PS5 and PS4 Blu-ray games as well as digital downloads. It is the straightforward option if you already own discs, expect to borrow games, or want to choose between physical and digital purchases. A cheaper Digital Edition deal may not be the lower-cost fit if you expect to buy many physical games; compare your likely total spending rather than the console price alone.
Choose Digital Edition for a digital-only library
The Digital Edition has no built-in disc drive, so plan to obtain games digitally unless you buy a compatible separate drive. PlayStation says its separate drive is intended for PS5 Digital Edition CFI-2000 and CFI-2100 model groups (slim), and that an internet connection is required to pair the drive during setup. Check the exact model group before buying a drive.

Consider Pro for its performance features
PlayStation describes PS5 Pro features including advanced ray tracing, improved image clarity, and higher frame rates in games enhanced for the console. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not an independent performance test or a guarantee that every game uses every feature. Decide whether those capabilities matter to you, then weigh them against the Pro’s price and the other models’ fit.
How to compare Black Friday PS5 offers
- Set your model and storage needs. Decide whether you need a disc drive, and consider the listed storage: 1TB for the standard PS5, 825GB for Digital Edition, and 2TB for PS5 Pro in the cited U.S. listings.
- Compare like with like. Check whether a listing is for a console alone or a bundle, and review the included games or accessories. A bundle’s value depends on whether you actually want what it includes.
- Check your local promotion. PlayStation said its 2025 Black Friday offers and prices could vary by region and retailer. Verify the current offer with the retailer serving your location rather than assuming a U.S. promotion applies elsewhere.
- Compare the final checkout amount. Include required accessories or a separate disc drive if needed, and check shipping, taxes, return terms, and warranty details before placing the order.
- Verify the seller and stock. For a new console, PlayStation advises buying from authorized retailers. Confirm the retailer’s status, inventory, and sale terms directly; a headline discount does not guarantee the item is available or that the checkout price matches the advertisement.
What the 2025 Black Friday prices do—and do not—tell you
PlayStation’s November 18, 2025 announcement said the promotion would start November 21. For the U.S., it gave recommended prices of $399.99 for the 825GB PS5 Digital Edition Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundle and $449.99 for the 1TB PS5 Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundle. The post also advertised $100 savings on PS5 and Digital Edition consoles, and $100 off PS5 Pro in select regions. These were 2025 campaign details; retailer prices and availability could vary, and the figures do not establish a 2026 deal or a universal discount.

The same announcement listed $20 off a DualSense wireless controller and PlayStation Portal, and up to 33% off a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership for joining customers in participating countries. Those, too, were 2025 campaign details, not current offers. Check the live regional promotion for this season rather than treating last year’s announcement as a price forecast. PlayStation’s U.S. buying guide recommends authorized retailers for new consoles, citing functionality, authenticity, returns, and warranty coverage. If considering a used console, its guide recommends checking the seller’s reputation and asking for video showing the console powering on, connecting to the internet, and operating its ports, buttons, and disc drive where applicable.
