How Often Does ChatGPT Recommend ADP, PayPal and HubSpot?

There is no comparable published figure for how often ChatGPT recommends ADP, PayPal or HubSpot. A fair comparison needs the same prompts, clear counting rules and repeated observations over time.

There is no comparable published figure showing how often ChatGPT recommends ADP, PayPal or HubSpot. A defensible answer requires counting explicit recommendations across the same defined prompts and dates—not treating a passing brand mention, a web citation or a vendor dashboard estimate as a recommendation.

What can be established about ChatGPT’s recommendations?

The available official sources do not report a comparable recommendation frequency for these three companies. That means there is no sound basis for saying that ChatGPT recommends one more often than another, or assigning any of them a percentage.

The distinction matters to investors and business owners evaluating AI search visibility. A company’s name appearing in an answer is not necessarily an endorsement, and a link to a company’s site is not necessarily a recommendation. A percentage without a defined prompt set, time period and counting rule would not answer the question reliably.

What counts as a recommendation?

  • Brand mention: The answer names ADP, PayPal or HubSpot, whether favorably or not.
  • Explicit positive recommendation: The answer advises the user to consider or choose the company for the stated need. A neutral comparison or an unfavorable mention does not qualify.
  • Citation or link: The answer links to a webpage or names a source. A source can be cited without naming the brand, and a brand can be mentioned without a citation.
  • Prompt coverage: The share of tracked prompts in which a brand appears at least once. This measures presence, not endorsement.
  • Relative presence: The brands’ mentions compared with one another or with all competitors in the tracked answers. This is a comparison metric, not an endorsement rate.

HubSpot’s AEO documentation defines visibility and prompt coverage around brand appearances, and treats citations as a separate measure; it also describes share of voice as a comparison of brand mentions against competitors’ mentions. Those measures can help describe visibility, but none alone establishes how often ChatGPT positively recommends a company. See HubSpot’s AEO documentation.

How to measure recommendation frequency fairly

A useful comparison needs a consistent test design. The result should be described as the frequency observed in that test—not as a universal rate for ChatGPT.

  1. Define the prompts in advance. Use the same questions for all three companies, covering the same user needs. For example, prompts might ask which payroll or HR platform suits a specified business, which payment service fits a stated use case, or which marketing platform is appropriate for a defined company. Avoid prompts that name one company while asking about another.
  2. Set a counting rule. Decide before reviewing responses whether an answer counts as an explicit positive recommendation, a mention, a citation or none of these. Record the exact wording and distinguish neutral comparisons from positive advice.
  3. Record the answer conditions. Keep ChatGPT Search answers separate from answers without search, and document the product or model, observation dates and relevant account or geographic conditions. Search results and generated answers can vary.
  4. Repeat across time. Run the same prompts on a schedule over multiple days or weeks. HubSpot says its AEO tracked prompts run daily and advises reviewing multiple days or weeks because responses change over time.
  5. Publish counts with denominators. Report how many qualifying recommendations occurred out of how many eligible answers, the dates covered, the number of repeats and the prompt set. Show mentions and citations separately.

For example, “explicit recommendations in 8 of 30 answers across 10 prompts, tested on these dates” is interpretable; “ChatGPT recommends the company 27% of the time” is not, unless the prompts, conditions and denominator are also clear.

What HubSpot’s measurement tools do—and do not—show

HubSpot’s AEO product documentation describes prompt tracking, competitor comparison, citation analysis and recommendations. It lists limits of 2,500 monthly answers and 25 daily prompts for HubSpot AEO and Marketing Hub Professional, and 5,000 monthly answers and 50 daily prompts for Marketing Hub Enterprise. These are limits in documentation last updated August 27, 2026, not a guarantee that every account or future plan will have the same allowance. HubSpot says AEO supports ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity; results from different engines should not be combined as though they were ChatGPT results.

HubSpot is also one of the companies being compared here, so its measurement definitions and product claims should be understood as the company’s own documentation—not an independent ranking of ADP, PayPal and HubSpot.

HubSpot’s public AI Search Sensor has a different purpose: it presents a broad landscape dashboard rather than a specific-brand visibility report. Its methodology estimates AI visibility using public information, leading products, competitors and assumed customer profiles. Traffic and citation trends draw on anonymized HubSpot customer data. The company says the sensor refreshes daily and that changes in answer-engine models can shift results. These estimates do not supply a comparable count of ChatGPT recommendations for the three named companies. Details are in HubSpot’s AI Search Sensor methodology.

Being discoverable is not the same as being recommended

OpenAI says any public website can appear in ChatGPT Search and recommends that publishers avoid blocking OAI-SearchBot if they want their content to be discoverable and cited. That is an access guideline, not a promise that a company will appear in an answer, earn a citation or be recommended. See OpenAI’s publisher FAQ.

OpenAI also documents a workflow for connecting ChatGPT Ads with HubSpot to view advertising impressions, clicks, contacts, customers and cost in HubSpot. Those are paid-campaign measurements, not evidence of organic recommendations in ChatGPT answers. See OpenAI’s documentation for the ChatGPT Ads and HubSpot connection.

What this means for investors

AI answer visibility is not, by itself, evidence of a company’s revenue prospects, competitive advantage or stock value. A mention can be incidental, a recommendation depends on the user’s question, and a cited page measures a different outcome. Without a comparable, dated test, claims that ChatGPT favors ADP, PayPal or HubSpot should be treated as unverified rather than as a ranking or investment signal.
