Yes. Newegg products can be discovered and, when eligible, purchased inside Perplexity’s shopping experience. Perplexity provides the conversational shopping interface, Newegg supplies the products and fulfills orders, and PayPal provides the checkout and payment services. Newegg remains the merchant of record—the retailer responsible for the sale—rather than handing that role to PayPal or Perplexity.
How the Newegg, PayPal and Perplexity partnership works
The arrangement connects three parts of a purchase that are usually spread across a search engine, a retailer’s website and a payment page. Newegg’s November 26, 2025 announcement describes its integration with PayPal’s agentic-commerce services, making its technology catalog available in AI-powered shopping environments, including Perplexity. Newegg’s announcement
- Perplexity is where shoppers ask for recommendations and browse eligible product listings in a conversation.
- Newegg supplies the catalog and products, fulfills orders and remains the merchant of record.
- PayPal supplies the wallet and checkout layer, including identity and payment services, fraud screening, dispute resolution and protections for eligible transactions.
In practical terms, the AI interface helps with discovery, but the retailer still sells the item. The partnership does not make Perplexity the seller or transfer Newegg’s fulfillment responsibility to PayPal.
How to shop and check out in Perplexity
PayPal’s March 13, 2026 guide describes the Perplexity shopping experience as rolling out to U.S. users on web and desktop. The steps below apply to participating merchants and eligible products; availability can vary.

- Enter a product request in Perplexity in natural language—for example, describe the type of computer component or other technology product you need.
- Open the Shopping tab to review product cards, which can show images, prices, delivery estimates and merchant names.
- Select an eligible listing and choose Instant Buy or Buy with PayPal, when offered.
- Authenticate with saved PayPal credentials or a passkey, then complete the purchase in the conversation.
- Look for the order confirmation. PayPal’s guide says it manages payment, shipping details, receipts, order tracking and support for this experience.
Product listings and in-chat checkout are not necessarily available for every Newegg item. A product appearing in a conversation does not by itself guarantee that it can be bought through Instant Buy.
What PayPal Instant Buy means
PayPal announced Instant Buy on November 25, 2025. It lets U.S. Perplexity users browse participating merchants’ catalogs and complete eligible purchases in chat, rather than leaving the conversation for a conventional retailer checkout. The launch announcement named Newegg alongside Abercrombie & Fitch, Ashley Furniture, Fabletics and Adorama. PayPal’s Instant Buy announcement

Instant Buy is PayPal’s checkout service within the AI shopping flow; it is not a separate Newegg store or a promise that every recommendation can be purchased immediately. PayPal’s May 14, 2025 announcement had described a broader planned partnership with Perplexity, covering product purchases, travel bookings and tickets for U.S. Perplexity Pro users through PayPal or Venmo. Who handles the sale, payment and customer support?
| Part of the purchase | Company responsible | What that means for shoppers |
|---|---|---|
| Product discovery and conversation | Perplexity | Shoppers describe what they want and review eligible product recommendations in the AI interface. |
| Catalog, product sale and fulfillment | Newegg | Newegg remains merchant of record and supplies and fulfills the products. |
| Wallet, payment and identity | PayPal | PayPal provides checkout services, including saved credentials or passkey authentication where supported. |
| Receipts, tracking and support in the described flow | PayPal | PayPal’s March 2026 guide says these services are managed through PayPal; Newegg remains the seller. |
Merchant-of-record status matters because an in-chat payment does not change who sold the product. Newegg’s integration description says its store sync and agent-ready setup connect product catalogs and order fulfillment to AI shopping platforms, while Newegg retains that status for purchases originating there. Availability: country, device and merchant limits
The announcements and guide establish a U.S.-focused rollout, not universal access. PayPal’s latest dated guide says Perplexity shopping is rolling out to U.S. users on web and desktop, with mobile support described as coming soon as of March 13, 2026. It does not establish that mobile access has since launched or that shoppers in other countries can use the same flow. PayPal’s Perplexity shopping guide
Merchant participation and product eligibility also matter: Instant Buy applies to participating merchant catalogs, and checkout is offered only for eligible listings. The earlier May 2025 plan specifically targeted U.S. Perplexity Pro users; the later Instant Buy announcement described U.S. Perplexity users. Those dated descriptions should not be read as proof that every user, account tier or product is currently supported.

Are purchases protected?
PayPal describes the flow as including fraud detection and dispute resolution, with purchase or buyer protection for eligible transactions. Eligibility and terms matter: the announcements do not promise protection for every item or circumstance. Review PayPal’s applicable terms and the transaction details before relying on protection for a particular purchase. PayPal and Perplexity’s partnership announcement PayPal’s Perplexity shopping guide
Newegg’s continued role as merchant of record is separate from PayPal’s payment protections. PayPal handles the payment layer and described post-purchase tools; Newegg remains the retailer responsible for selling and fulfilling its products.

What this changes—and what it does not
The main change is where shoppers can discover and pay for some Newegg products: eligible purchases can move from a conversation to checkout without the usual trip through a separate retailer checkout page. PayPal said the partnership was intended to reach its more than 430 million active accounts across approximately 200 markets in 2025; that was a statement of intended reach, not evidence that Perplexity checkout was available to every account or market at launch. PayPal’s partnership announcement
This is a commerce-infrastructure partnership, not evidence that an AI recommendation is automatically the best choice for a shopper. Compare the item, seller, total price and delivery details shown before buying, and use the merchant and payment-provider terms that apply to the actual transaction.
