For U.S. weddings in 2025, The Knot reported an average wedding flower spend of $2,800. That benchmark covers bouquets, boutonnières, wedding-party flowers and centerpieces, but it is not a florist’s quote or a prediction for every wedding. Your total depends on what you order and what services the price includes.

What does the $2,800 average include?

The Knot’s 2026 article reports an average of $2,800 from its 2025 Real Weddings Study, based on responses from 10,474 U.S. couples married between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Its flower-spend basket includes the wedding bouquet, a boutonnière, wedding-party flowers and floral centerpieces. The article also labels $900, $1,900 and $4,800 as lower-cost, median and upper-cost quartiles, respectively; these are survey benchmarks, not a universal price range or a set of florist rates. See The Knot’s methodology and figures.

Other published estimates are substantially different, so treat each as a source-specific benchmark rather than averaging them together:

Source Published U.S. estimate Scope and qualification
The Knot, 2026 article reporting its 2025 study $2,800 average Based on 10,474 couples married in 2025; includes bouquets, boutonnières, wedding-party flowers and centerpieces. Source.
WeddingWire, publication date not stated Around $1,500; most couples spend $700–$2,500 A separate cost guide; its opened guide does not state a publication date or survey methodology. Source.
Zola, 2026 Wedding Cost Index $5,100–$7,600; average $6,300 The guide says this includes floral design work and setup and usually represents about 13% of a couple’s overall budget. It is not directly comparable to the other figures. Source.

The estimates reflect different sources, dates and stated scopes. For instance, Zola explicitly includes design work and setup, while The Knot defines its average by flower categories. WeddingWire’s guide does not state a date or survey method. Use these figures to orient a budget, then compare local, itemized proposals that cover the same arrangements and services.

How do guest count, region and season affect the benchmark?

The Knot’s 2026 article reports different average flower spends by wedding size, region and season. These are averages from that source, not guaranteed adjustments to an individual quote.

Category Group The Knot average
Guest count 1–50 guests $1,600
Guest count 51–100 guests $2,400
Guest count 101+ guests $3,300
Region West $2,400
Region Midwest $2,500
Region South/Southeast $2,800
Region Southwest $3,000
Region Northeast $3,300
Region Mid-Atlantic $3,600
Season October–December $2,700
Season January–March $2,900
Season April–June $2,900
Season July–September $2,800

The Knot suggests winter sourcing and local summer availability may help explain the seasonal pattern, but the reported figures do not establish those as causes. Regional and seasonal averages are useful context, not a substitute for asking florists about local availability and delivery or setup charges. The Knot’s regional, seasonal and guest-count figures.

What drives a wedding-flower quote?

Number, size and placement of arrangements

More arrangements and larger designs use more stems and take more time to prepare and install. Ceremony arches, hanging pieces and other venue installations can add substantially to a proposal. The Knot quotes Portland florist Robyn Hunter saying, “A simple arbor floral piece could start at a few hundred dollars and quickly scale up to several thousand based on how much of the structure is covered, and the ratio of flowers to foliage,”. That is one florist’s estimate for an arbor feature, not a standard price. The Knot’s discussion of flower costs and design factors.

Flower varieties, foliage and sourcing

Flower-heavy designs generally cost more than arrangements with a greater share of foliage, although greenery still has material and preparation costs. Seasonal and locally available blooms may be less expensive than scarce or out-of-season choices; the latter can require shipping or substitutions. Weather and supply can change availability, so ask which flowers may be replaced and how the florist will preserve the intended color and style. Dried botanicals may cost less than fresh flowers, and WeddingWire identifies baby’s breath, daisies and carnations as lower-cost examples, but the price depends on the market and design.

Preparation, design and logistics

A floral proposal can account for consultations, design planning, ordering, stem processing, assembly, transport, venue access, installation and breakdown. Processing may involve removing thorns and foliage, hydrating stems, using treated water and refrigerating flowers. These steps require labor, supplies or storage; a quote for flowers alone may not represent the cost of a ready-to-use installation. WeddingWire’s cost guide.

Package inclusions and rentals

Some venues include floral services, and florist proposals may include vessels or other hard goods in addition to flowers. Check what is already covered by the venue before you budget for or book the same service twice. The Knot’s flower-cost guide.

How can you keep floral spending within budget?

  • Set the budget and priorities before choosing stems. Tell the florist your limit, rank the arrangements that matter most, and ask for design options that protect those priorities. Be open to substitutions that suit your color palette. The Knot reports that price was the top priority for 70% of surveyed couples choosing a florist; its article also says 59% included a florist among their wedding vendors. The Knot’s pricing and florist-selection coverage.
  • Ask about seasonal and locally grown alternatives. A florist can suggest blooms available near your wedding date, but weather and supply can affect what is available. Agree on substitution preferences rather than assuming a specific flower can be sourced.
  • Use foliage, dried botanicals or less expensive blooms where they fit. The design can mix flowers and greenery, or use dried elements and lower-cost flower varieties. The right choice depends on the desired look and local pricing; none guarantees a fixed saving.
  • Reuse ceremony flowers at the reception when practical. Ask whether the arrangements can be moved, who will move them, and whether the venue schedule allows enough time. Mixing floral pieces with non-floral décor such as candles can also reduce the number of flower arrangements. The Knot’s flower-budget suggestions.
  • Scale back large installations before cutting every small detail. Simplifying an arch or reducing the number of prominent installations can address material and installation costs. Ask the florist to show a revised design; published sources do not establish a universal savings amount.
  • DIY only when the practical plan works. Table décor may be a DIY option if you have the time, transport, storage and setup plan. Supplies alone do not replace a florist’s flower preparation, labor, delivery or cleanup.

How should you compare florist quotes?

Ask each florist for an itemized proposal using the same design brief. Compare quantities and service scope, not just the subtotal: one quote may omit delivery, installation, rentals or breakdown that another includes.

  • List each arrangement and quantity, including personal flowers, centerpieces and ceremony features.
  • Ask for per-item estimates and totals, and check whether taxes and other fees are included.
  • Confirm delivery, venue setup, installation, breakdown and cleanup responsibilities.
  • Identify rental items, vessels and other hard goods, and whether they are included in the price.
  • Check which floral services are already part of the venue package.
  • Ask whether ceremony arrangements can be moved to the reception, and whether the quote includes that work.
  • Discuss flower and foliage proportions, seasonal substitutions and how the florist handles changes in availability.

For a like-for-like comparison, give every florist the same bouquet and wedding-party counts, centerpiece scale, ceremony features, flower-to-greenery mix and delivery/setup requirements. WeddingWire also recommends asking about experience, portfolio, storage, transportation, samples and how many other weddings the florist has booked for your date.
