But a bank or payments company using RippleNet or Ripple Payments is not, by itself, proof that it uses XRP—or settles that payment on the public XRP Ledger. Ripple’s public customer examples disclose different levels of detail, and most do not identify the settlement asset or ledger.
How an XRP-based cross-border payment works
Ripple describes ODL for payment service providers facilitating remittances, fintechs handling overseas small-business transfers, and companies moving internal treasury funds to accounts in other countries. The product documentation describes a flow in which XRP bridges the sender’s currency and the destination fiat payout. This is a vendor-documented product design, not evidence that every Ripple customer uses it.
Individual payments
- Fund the sender position: Ripple funds a designated sender wallet with XRP.
- Accept a quote: The sender retrieves and accepts a quote through RippleNet API operations.
- Transfer XRP: XRP moves from the sender wallet to a receiver wallet.
- Convert and pay out: The receiver liquidates XRP for fiat and pays the beneficiary in the destination currency.
Bulk funding and internal treasury
In Ripple’s documented bulk-funding flow, XRP funds a receiver’s position, which is converted into fiat for the sender’s account before beneficiaries are paid later. For internal treasury transfers, the customer liquidates XRP into destination fiat and transfers that fiat to a local bank account. The relevant operational question is therefore not only how quickly XRP moves, but also when conversion occurs and how the local fiat payout is completed.
Ripple’s May 31, 2024 explainer says XRP and other digital assets can act as bridge currencies for last-mile fiat payouts, and presents Ripple Payments as combining blockchain infrastructure, payment information, and payout arrangements. Those are Ripple’s product descriptions, not independent measurements of payment speed, cost, coverage, or compliance.

Does a Ripple customer necessarily use XRP or the public XRP Ledger?
No. Three related terms should not be treated as interchangeable:
- Ripple: The company offering payment products and services, including APIs, liquidity arrangements, and payout access.
- XRP and ODL: XRP is the digital asset in the ODL flows Ripple documents. A specific XRP-based flow involves XRP moving between designated wallets before conversion or fiat payout.
- The XRP Ledger: The ledger is a network with documented support for direct XRP payments and cross-currency payments. A ledger capability or Ripple product description does not establish that a named institution uses the public ledger for production payments.
A customer announcement that names RippleNet or Ripple Payments establishes a described relationship or service use; it does not necessarily disclose the asset, settlement route, or ledger used for a given corridor. The reviewed public examples do not establish which named institutions currently use XRP settlement on the public XRP Ledger in live corridors.

What published institutional examples disclose
The examples below are based on Ripple-published customer pages and announcements. Their descriptions are not equivalent: some identify a corridor or payout, while others describe a service relationship without naming the settlement asset or ledger.
| Institution or provider | What its Ripple-published material says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| SBI Remit and Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) | Ripple’s case study describes Japan-to-Thailand remittances through RippleNet, with recipients receiving Thai baht in an SCB savings account within seconds. | The page does not specify XRP use or settlement on the public XRP Ledger for that corridor. |
| SCB Easy app remittances | Ripple’s SCB case study describes app-based remittances using Ripple and reports RippleNet activity and service metrics. | The page does not identify the asset or ledger for each payment, and the metrics are not independently audited or a measure of current 2026 performance. |
| Travelex Bank | Ripple describes use of Ripple Payments for near-instant settlement, global payment management, and liquidity access; it says Travelex gained ten new clients in one year through the network. | The case description does not identify XRP or public-XRPL settlement. |
| Tranglo | Ripple describes Tranglo as a payment hub using Ripple Payments, with partners and payouts across more than 70 countries. | The page does not establish that every payment uses XRP or settles on the public XRP Ledger. |
| AMINA Bank | Ripple announced on December 12, 2025 that the Swiss-regulated bank would use Ripple Payments to support near-real-time cross-border payments for clients. The announcement discusses stablecoin-to-fiat rails, including RLUSD and other stablecoins, alongside access between blockchain and traditional banking rails. | The announcement does not say that the described flow uses XRP. |
How to read the published performance figures
Customer pages can illustrate what a provider says its service has delivered, but their figures should not be treated as independently verified comparisons between payment rails. The following numbers are claims published by Ripple, with the dates and limits stated on those pages:

| Example | Published figure | Context and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| SCB | More than half a million RippleNet transactions and 335% year-over-year volume growth in 2020 | Ripple’s customer case-study page reports these as 2020 figures. The same undated page lists one-minute end-to-end processing, 80,000 monthly transactions, and $400 million in monthly person-to-person remittance settlements; it does not date those three metrics. |
| SBI Remit | 10+ billion JPY monthly cumulative payment volume; 90% of customers are foreigners living in Japan; implementation in three months; three-second settlement | Ripple’s case-study page does not date these specific metrics. They are company-published claims, not independent corridor benchmarks. |
| Tranglo | More than 100 financial-institution and partner relationships; 5,500 payout partners; more than 70 countries | Ripple’s undated case-study page presents these as company-reported network figures. Tranglo co-founder Hui Yong Sia is quoted on the page saying a payment can be processed end to end in less than a minute; that is a company-published statement, not a neutral market benchmark. |
| AMINA announcement | More than 90% of the global FX market represented and more than $95 billion processed | These are Ripple’s company-level claims in its December 12, 2025 announcement, not measurements of AMINA’s payment flows. |
In particular, “three seconds” or “near-instant” should not be read as the total time for a beneficiary to receive spendable local currency unless the source defines the measurement that way. Conversion, payout arrangements, and banking steps are part of the end-to-end process.
How an institution should evaluate an XRP or other payment route
The right comparison is corridor-specific. A ledger transfer time alone cannot show whether a route is cheaper, faster, or more suitable for a particular payment operation. Evaluate the complete flow against the institution’s existing and alternative rails:
Rank #4
- All-in cost: Include FX spread, conversion charges, network or service fees, and destination payout charges.
- Liquidity and prefunding: Check liquidity depth in both currencies, where funds must be held, and whether the model reduces or shifts prefunding needs.
- End-to-end time: Measure from the payment instruction through conversion and last-mile payout, rather than relying only on ledger confirmation time.
- Coverage and payout methods: Verify that the specific destination, receiving institution, and desired payout method are supported for the intended corridor.
- Compliance responsibilities: Establish how sanctions screening, recordkeeping, licensing, and other applicable obligations are handled by each party.
- Asset and counterparty exposure: Assess volatility exposure where relevant, custody controls, and dependence on liquidity providers or payout partners.
- Integration and operations: Plan for API implementation, reconciliation, exception handling, and service availability.
The reviewed vendor and customer materials do not provide a neutral, like-for-like comparison of total costs or corridor performance. Treat these as questions for due diligence, not as proof that one rail is categorically superior.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the available evidence establishes—and what it does not
Ripple documents ODL flows in which XRP is transferred between designated wallets before conversion or fiat payout. Its customer materials also describe institutions and providers using RippleNet or Ripple Payments for cross-border services. Those facts do not bridge the evidentiary gap between a Ripple relationship and proof of XRP settlement on the public XRP Ledger by a named institution.

For the examples reviewed, the published pages do not map every customer or corridor to XRP, RLUSD, another asset, fiat-only processing, or a specific underlying settlement route. A claim about a particular bank’s live XRP use therefore needs a source that identifies that institution, asset, corridor, and production use—not just a general product description or customer relationship.
