The U.S. IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card currently advertises an anniversary free night redeemable for up to 40,000 points, with the option to add points from your IHG account, and automatic Platinum Elite status while you hold the card. The no-annual-fee IHG One Rewards Traveler card instead offers Silver Elite status and has no anniversary night listed. The certificate’s full consumer-card terms are not set out on IHG’s card page, so check the certificate issued to your account for its deadline, restrictions, and other rules before booking.
How does the IHG Premier anniversary night work?
IHG’s U.S. Premier card page describes an anniversary free night with a current redemption cap of 40,000 points. If a hotel reward night costs more than that cap, the page says you can add points from your IHG One Rewards account to redeem it. The 40,000-point figure is the cap IHG currently advertises; reward-night prices and terms can change, so check the certificate and the hotel’s current redemption price before making plans. The card page does not establish the consumer certificate’s precise issue date, expiration rules, property restrictions, fees, or what happens if a booking is canceled. Review the certificate and terms shown in your IHG account for those details rather than assuming the rules for a different IHG card apply.

Do not confuse the consumer certificate with the business-card certificate
IHG separately describes a Premier Business anniversary certificate with a 50,000-point cap and a points top-up option. Its stated terms include one standard room night, redemption and completed stay within 12 months of issue, subject to availability and the hotel’s cancellation terms; it cannot be transferred, extended beyond expiry, or redeemed for cash. Does the IHG Premier card give you Platinum status?
Yes. IHG says the U.S. Premier card grants automatic Platinum Elite status for as long as you have the card. This is a cardholder benefit; you do not need to reach the ordinary annual night or points threshold to receive that card-granted status. IHG notes that benefits can vary by hotel, country, and region, so check the terms for the property and destination. Upgrades and early check-in are not guaranteed. How does card-granted status differ from qualifying the usual way?
IHG’s published elite thresholds use qualifying nights or qualifying points earned in a calendar year. The Premier card’s automatic Platinum grant is a separate route to that tier.

IHG says status earned in a calendar year is maintained through the end of the following calendar year. The Premier card page also advertises a separate path to Diamond Elite through December 31 of the following year after $40,000 in card purchases in each calendar year; that route is subject to card terms and is not part of the ordinary stay-or-points threshold table. - Open your IHG One Rewards account and review the actual anniversary-night certificate and its terms.
- Check the hotel’s reward-night price against the certificate’s displayed cap. If it exceeds the cap, confirm that the booking flow allows you to add account points and shows the total required.
- Read the certificate and hotel terms for expiration, eligible properties, availability, booking changes, cancellations, and any charges that may apply.
- Confirm the details at checkout before completing the reservation; do not rely on another card’s certificate rules to answer questions the consumer certificate does not address.
