Aeroplan credit card rewards depend on the specific card’s issuer terms and Aeroplan’s program rules. Cards earn points at different rates for eligible purchases, while redemption may mean booking a variable-price flight reward—or, for some enrolled Visa cardholders, accepting a separate offer for a statement credit. Check the card’s current terms and the redemption rules before counting on a rate, benefit or point value.
How do Aeroplan credit cards earn points?
Each card sets its own earn rates. For example, the TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum page lists 1 Aeroplan point per eligible C$1 spent directly with Air Canada, including Air Canada Vacations, and in gas, electric-vehicle charging and grocery categories. It lists 1 point per C$1.50 on other eligible purchases. These are product-specific terms shown on Air Canada’s TD Aeroplan card page, accessed in 2026—not a universal Aeroplan rate.
Other tiers can have different rates. The same TD page, for instance, lists a 2-point Air Canada rate and 1.5 points in several other eligible categories for its Visa Infinite Privilege example. CIBC also offers multiple personal-card tiers; its Aeroplan card page directs customers to product terms, and does not establish one rate that applies to every CIBC card.
Merchant coding and category caps matter
A purchase earns a category bonus only if it meets the card’s terms, including any applicable merchant-category-code requirements. A shop’s everyday description of what it sells does not guarantee how a payment will be coded. TD’s terms for the Platinum example set an annual C$80,000 limit on bonus-category purchases; qualifying purchases above that limit, and purchases that do not qualify for a bonus category, earn at the standard rate. Check the exact card terms for categories, coding rules and caps.

Partner and eStore purchases can have separate earning conditions
TD says cardholders can earn through participating Aeroplan partner brands and online retailers in the Aeroplan eStore, and can also earn from paying with a TD Aeroplan card. These are separate earning mechanisms, each subject to its own conditions. Provide the Aeroplan number where required and check the partner offer rather than assuming a particular combined points total.
How can you redeem Aeroplan points?
Two redemption routes are relevant to Aeroplan cardholders, but they are not interchangeable: flight rewards booked through Aeroplan and a purchase-linked statement-credit offer available to certain enrolled Visa cardholders.

Flight rewards have variable pricing and itinerary rules
Aeroplan does not set one fixed point price for all flights. Its Flight Reward Policy says: “The number of Aeroplan points required to book a Flight Reward depends on numerous factors including the itinerary, origin, destination and fare option selected.” Availability and pricing can therefore vary by trip and fare option. Reservations are subject to Aeroplan and operating-airline approval.
The policy allows up to six flight segments per direction and up to 12 on one reservation. It permits one stopover per direction of up to 45 days, for additional points; stopovers within Canada, the United States and China are excluded. Taxes and other charges may also apply.

- Partner booking: A partner-operated flight reward may incur a C$39 CAD fee per ticket.
- Booking channel: Online reservations are described as free. A reservation made through the Aeroplan Contact Centre carries a non-refundable C$30 CAD fee.
Purchase-linked statement credits require an eligible offer
The Aeroplan Credit Card Everyday Redemption Program is a separate option for eligible Aeroplan members who are primary cardholders of participating Visa cards. The card account must be open, active and in good standing, and the cardholder must register and link accounts. Aeroplan lists eligible TD and CIBC Visa products and may change that list; this feature should not be assumed to apply to every Aeroplan card.
- Register and link the eligible card and Aeroplan accounts, then choose from the available purchase categories.
- If a qualifying purchase between C$25 and C$250 generates an offer, Aeroplan sends an SMS notification. Offer value, frequency and category are at Aeroplan’s discretion.
- Accept the offer within 24 hours of the notification. It applies to that specific purchase; once accepted, the points redemption cannot be reversed.
- The resulting credit is in Canadian dollars and may take up to 30 days to post. The card account must remain linked.
Whether the original purchase also earns card points is determined by the issuing financial institution. The offer is not a guaranteed credit for every eligible purchase.

Can Aeroplan points pay for purchases?
Sometimes, through the Everyday Redemption Program described above, if an eligible primary Visa cardholder receives and accepts an offer tied to a qualifying purchase. That is different from using points as a general payment method for any purchase. For flight bookings, points are used for flight rewards under Aeroplan’s pricing and itinerary rules; a statement credit is available only through the separate enrolled-card offer.

The card information and program rules cited here do not establish a universal rule that holding any Aeroplan credit card prevents points from expiring. The Everyday Redemption Program’s requirement to keep an account linked concerns that statement-credit offer; it does not establish the expiry status of a member’s Aeroplan balance. Check the current Aeroplan account terms and the terms for the exact card rather than relying on card ownership alone.

What should you compare before choosing a card?
Compare the terms that affect your likely spending and redemption—not just the headline earn rate.
- Earn structure: Rates on eligible category and general purchases for the exact card tier.
- Category eligibility: Merchant coding rules, annual bonus-category limits and what happens after a limit is reached.
- Card costs and eligibility: Current annual and additional-card fees, plus the issuer’s application requirements.
- Redemption fit: Whether you expect to use flight rewards, purchase-linked statement credits or another option. Do not treat Aeroplan points as having a guaranteed cash value; no universal valuation is established by the cited terms.
- Operational restrictions: Partner or service fees, itinerary rules, offer deadlines, account-linking requirements and good-standing conditions.
Is the 15% Aeroplan flight-reward discount ongoing?
No. As listed on Air Canada’s flight-reward offer page accessed October 3, 2026, code FLY15OFF applies to eligible Canadian cardholder bookings made from September 10, 2026 through January 11, 2027, for travel through December 31, 2027, local time. The 15% reduction applies to eligible flight-reward base-fare points, not taxes, fees, surcharges or other charges. Eligibility depends on the itinerary, including qualifying Air Canada-operated travel. Check the card, route, booking channel, login and offer terms when booking; this is a dated promotion, not a standing earning rule.
