Hostinger vs Cloudways: An Honest Comparison for 2026

Hostinger is the better choice for most beginners, blogs, portfolios, small-business sites and budget-conscious WordPress owners. Cloudways is the better fit for agencies, developers, multi-site operators and performance-sensitive stores that need managed cloud infrastructure, provider choice and more deployment control.

These are not identical products. Hostinger sells conventional web hosting and its own managed cloud plans. Cloudways is a management layer over providers such as DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, AWS and Google Cloud. Comparing Hostinger’s cheapest shared plan directly with a Cloudways server produces a misleading result, so this guide compares the products by workload, limits, support and total cost.

Hostinger vs Cloudways at a glance

Criterion Hostinger Cloudways

What each company actually sells

Hostinger web and cloud hosting

Hostinger’s traditional plans are account-level hosting for sites such as blogs, landing pages and small stores. Its managed cloud range adds more CPU, memory, storage, PHP workers, backups, CDN access, migration help and a dedicated-IP option without making you administer a raw server. Hostinger describes Cloud Startup as suitable for growing business, ecommerce and agency workloads, but plan-level limits still apply. See the cloud feature and resource page and the documented limits.

Cloudways managed cloud platform

Cloudways lets you deploy WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Laravel, PHP and other applications on infrastructure from DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, AWS or Google Cloud. It manages much of the server stack while exposing controls for applications, staging, cloning, backups, monitoring, scaling and caching. You still manage your code, domains, DNS, application settings and integrations. The exact infrastructure and billing model are selected in the Cloudways plan selector.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

Pricing: promotional price versus real cost

Hostinger’s advertised monthly figure is a monthly equivalent of an upfront term, not a month-to-month charge. Its page explains that the plan total is divided by the number of months. The US-facing prices checked August 18, 2026 were:

Hostinger plan 48-month promotional equivalent First-term payment Listed renewal
Premium $2.99/month $143.52 before applicable taxes $10.99/month
Unlimited $3.79/month $181.92 before applicable taxes $16.99/month
Cloud Startup $7.99/month $383.52 before applicable taxes $25.99/month

These are promotional, US-facing signals rather than universal prices. Check the checkout currency, taxes, renewal term, domain eligibility and whether the free domain applies only to the first year at Hostinger’s pricing page. Backups, staging, CDN access, email and dedicated IP availability also depend on the selected plan.

Cloudways does not have one meaningful “starting price” for every customer. Select the provider, region, RAM, vCPU, storage, bandwidth and application configuration first. DigitalOcean, Linode and Vultr commonly use a flat monthly or hourly model; AWS and Google Cloud can follow different billing behavior. Cloudways explains those differences in its billing guide. Budget for possible off-site backup storage, extra bandwidth, disk usage, autoscaling and optional support charges.

Pricing verdict: Hostinger wins on entry cost and bundled services. Cloudways can be good value compared with premium managed WordPress hosts when you run several sites or need operational controls, but it is not a low-cost substitute for basic shared hosting.

Performance and uptime

Neither “cloud” nor a vendor’s stack description proves that one host is universally faster. Real results depend on server size, provider and region, WordPress theme and plugins, database load, PHP version, cache state, CDN, image weight, visitor geography and concurrency.

What Hostinger provides

Hostinger advertises LiteSpeed infrastructure, NVMe storage, CDN access, Object Cache and higher PHP-worker allocations on cloud tiers. Cloud Startup is currently shown with 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe storage and 100 PHP workers. Those specifications describe capacity, not a guaranteed page speed.

TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Router Dual Band Wireless Internet Router (Archer A54)
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
  • Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
  • Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
  • Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks

What Cloudways provides

Cloudways promotes an NGINX-based Lightning Stack with PHP-FPM, caching, Redis, Object Cache Pro integration, Cloudflare CDN options and monitoring. Its advantage is choice of underlying cloud resources and more control over how applications are separated and scaled—not an automatic speed win.

How to make a fair test

If performance determines the purchase, test identical sites rather than relying on claims:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Use the same WordPress version, theme, plugins, database and media library.
  2. Match PHP version, CDN configuration and cache settings where possible.
  3. Measure cache-warm and cache-cold requests, including a logged-in/admin request.
  4. Test from the same locations and report median and 95th-percentile response time, TTFB, Largest Contentful Paint, errors and resource saturation.
  5. Include concurrency that resembles your real traffic pattern.

TechRadar reported 99.96% uptime for one Hostinger test site over 10 weeks; that is useful independent context, not a guarantee for every plan or region (TechRadar’s test).

Ease of use and daily administration

Why Hostinger feels simpler

hPanel puts domains, DNS, email, SSL, WordPress installation, migration, backups and website tools in one account. A first-time owner normally does not need to choose a cloud vendor, create a separate application and server, or learn provider-specific billing.

Why Cloudways is more capable—and more involved

Cloudways separates the server from each application. That makes staging, cloning, monitoring and independent scaling practical, but it introduces more concepts: provider, server, application, domain mapping, DNS, cache layers and backup settings. “Managed” means the platform handles much of the infrastructure; it does not mean someone designs your application or fixes arbitrary plugin code.

Usability verdict: choose Hostinger if one vendor for hosting, domain and basic email matters. Choose Cloudways if you are comfortable with DNS, caching, deployment and server terminology.

WordPress, WooCommerce and application features

Capability Hostinger Cloudways
One-click WordPress Yes on supported plans Yes
Managed migration Advertised; scope depends on plan and site Advertised; first-site and edge-case scope should be confirmed
Staging and cloning Plan-dependent Core workflow advertised
Backups Weekly on Premium, daily on higher tiers; Cloud Startup lists daily and on-demand options Automated and on-demand backups with one-click restoration; off-site storage may cost extra
PHP controls Plan limits and supported versions apply Multiple PHP versions and server/application controls
Redis/object cache Object Cache on relevant plans Redis and Object Cache Pro integrations advertised
Non-WordPress apps More constrained on ordinary web hosting WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, Laravel, PHP and other supported applications

Do not assume a feature listed for Cloud Startup exists on Hostinger Premium. Check the exact plan matrix and limits before buying, especially for staging, daily backups, PHP workers, database size and SSH or WP-CLI access.

Resources and limits that affect real sites

Hostinger’s published Cloud Startup limits

Hostinger’s limits page lists Cloud Startup at 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB storage, 2 million inodes, up to 800 databases, a 6 GB database-size limit and 100 PHP workers. It also documents MySQL connections, PHP execution time, upload/import limits and email-sending rules. “Unlimited websites” and “unlimited bandwidth” therefore do not mean unlimited CPU, memory, database or inode use.

The same documentation limits server-based mail to 10 messages per minute and 100 per day. A store, newsletter or transactional system should use authenticated SMTP or a dedicated email provider instead of relying on PHP mail.

Cloudways variables

For Cloudways, compare RAM, vCPU, storage, bandwidth, PHP workers, application count, provider region, database behavior, backup storage and any autoscaling charges. Values change with the selected provider and server configuration, so record the exact checkout configuration rather than quoting a generic Cloudways specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Backups, restoration and disaster recovery

Hostinger lists weekly backups on Premium, daily backups on higher web-hosting tiers and daily/on-demand backups on Cloud Startup. Cloudways advertises automated and on-demand backups with one-click restoration, while noting separate off-site backup storage in its pricing material.

A host backup is not a complete disaster-recovery plan. Keep an independent copy of the database, uploads, configuration, DNS records and (where applicable) email data. Test restoring to a non-production location before an emergency. Confirm whether restoration is per application or server-wide, how long backups are retained and whether a downloaded copy is available.

Security: platform protection is not application security

Hostinger advertises free SSL, malware scanning, DDoS protection and Cloudflare-protected nameservers. Cloudways advertises firewalls, IP blocking, brute-force and bot protection, DDoS protection, malware scanning, SSL, monitoring and Cloudflare Enterprise options. Feature availability and add-on pricing should be checked for the exact plan.

  • Host-level: network protection, firewalling, isolation and patching supplied by the platform.
  • Application-level: secure plugins and themes, updates, strong passwords, permissions and vulnerability response remain your responsibility.
  • Operational: enable MFA, use least privilege, protect backups and rehearse recovery.

Support and migration

Hostinger advertises 24/7 support and priority support on relevant plans. Cloudways advertises 24/7/365 chat and ticket support, with optional advanced-support offerings. Neither should be expected to debug any third-party plugin, custom codebase or payment integration without qualification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Both companies advertise free migration. A reliable move still requires you to:

  1. Create the destination account, server and application.
  2. Copy files and the database, then test using a temporary URL or hosts-file override.
  3. Check PHP compatibility, permalinks, cron jobs, redirects, SSL, forms, payments and external integrations.
  4. Preserve MX, SPF, DKIM and other DNS records so email continues working.
  5. Lower DNS TTL before cutover, change DNS, monitor propagation and keep the old host active until stable.

Common failures include HTTPS redirect loops, stale caches, oversized database imports, lost cron jobs, payment webhooks still targeting the old IP and firewall allowlists that were not updated.

Email and domains can decide the purchase

Hostinger is the practical choice when you want domain registration, DNS, hosting and basic mailboxes in one ecosystem. Its web-hosting plans advertise a first-year free domain on eligible extensions and mailbox allowances that vary by plan.

Cloudways is primarily application hosting. Plan separately for a registrar, DNS, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 mailboxes, transactional SMTP, newsletter delivery and email authentication. If your main requirement is reliable business email, Cloudways alone is not a replacement for an email host.

Scaling and high-traffic workloads

When Hostinger is enough

Cloud Startup offers a straightforward upgrade path for predictable growth, moderate ecommerce and business sites. You trade granular server tuning for a simpler managed account and plan-level resource ceilings.

When Cloudways is stronger

Cloudways offers provider choice, application separation, vertical scaling and, for some products, autoscaling or high-availability options. Scaling increases cost and does not repair inefficient queries, missing cache rules or poorly designed code. Verify regional availability, provider limits and pricing for the exact configuration.

Which should you choose?

If you are… Recommendation Reason
A beginner or blogger Hostinger Premium or Unlimited Lower promotional cost and simpler dashboard
A small business with email needs Hostinger Domain, DNS, hosting and basic mailboxes can stay together
Running a growing WordPress site or modest store Hostinger Cloud Startup More workers and resources without server administration
A freelancer or agency managing client sites Cloudways Staging, cloning, application separation and provider choice
Running WooCommerce with complex caching or integrations Usually Cloudways More infrastructure and deployment controls; validate the workload first
Using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 already Either Bundled Hostinger mail is less important; operational needs decide
Budget-constrained and comfortable self-managing Consider a direct VPS Potentially lower raw cost, but you assume security, backups and administration

When neither provider is the right fit

  • You require Kubernetes, serverless services, guaranteed multi-region failover or clustered databases.
  • Regulation or contracts require a specific country, cloud provider or enterprise support agreement.
  • You need premium WordPress-only support with minimal infrastructure decisions; a specialist such as Kinsta or WP Engine may fit better.
  • You need a managed VPS or dedicated server with high-touch support; Liquid Web is a more relevant category.
  • Your primary need is email hosting rather than web hosting.

Final verdict

Choose Hostinger when value, bundled domain and email services, simple WordPress management and predictable plan upgrades matter most. Treat the low monthly figure as a long-term promotional commitment and budget for renewal pricing and documented resource limits.

Choose Cloudways when staging, cloning, provider selection, application separation, monitoring, scaling and cloud-level operational control justify a higher and more variable bill. It is managed infrastructure, not a substitute for technical ownership of your site.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For most first websites and modest businesses, Hostinger is the sensible 2026 purchase. For agencies, developers and demanding multi-application workloads, Cloudways is usually the more capable platform—provided you select and price the exact provider and server configuration rather than relying on a generic “starting price.”
