Short answer: You may still find a Galaxy Z Flip5 at no net device cost through a carrier promotion, but “free” normally means monthly bill credits—not an unlocked phone handed over with no conditions. Samsung U.S. now lists the Z Flip5 as unavailable, while a T-Mobile promotional page still describes a free-after-credits offer that may be legacy or inventory-dependent.
As checked August 18, 2026, treat the T-Mobile listing as a lead rather than a guaranteed nationwide deal. Confirm that the phone appears in live checkout, that the promotion applies to your account and ZIP code, and that the installment and credit amounts match before you submit an order.
Which routes are actually available?
| Route | Confidence | Typical requirement | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-Mobile legacy Z Flip5 promotion | Conditional | Go5G Plus or Go5G Next, plus a new line or qualifying trade-in according to the promotional page | The page may be stale; availability and terms must be confirmed in checkout |
| Samsung direct | Not available | None | Samsung says the Z Flip5 is no longer available |
| Verizon | Not verified for a new Z Flip5 | Promotion-specific trade-in, plan and credit rules | Current catalogs emphasize newer or certified-pre-owned phones |
| AT&T | Not verified for a Z Flip5 | Promotion-specific installment and trade-in rules | Its current free-phone page highlights newer Samsung models |
| Used or refurbished | Practical | Seller, condition, IMEI and carrier-compatibility checks | Not free, but often cheaper than an expensive qualifying plan |
Samsung’s consumer page says the model is no longer available: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5. Samsung’s published business price file listed historical unlocked MSRPs of $999.99 for 256GB and $1,119.99 for 512GB and marked the models end-of-life; those figures are not current retail prices: Samsung MSRP file.
What “free” means in a carrier deal
Free after bill credits
You generally finance the phone and receive a promotional credit on each eligible monthly bill. T-Mobile’s historical announcement describes 24 monthly credits plus applicable tax: T-Mobile’s Z Flip5 announcement. Verizon similarly explains that discounted devices are commonly offset by recurring credits over a defined term: Verizon device-deal FAQs.

Not free service or necessarily free checkout
You still pay for the wireless plan. Sales tax on the pre-credit price, activation or device-connection charges, a new-line charge, insurance, accessories and optional services may apply. A current T-Mobile store page gives a $35 device-connection charge as an example for current offers; do not assume that amount is the Z Flip5’s exact charge: T-Mobile store device terms.
Trade-in and lock conditions
A qualifying trade-in may provide all or part of the promotional value. The phone can also remain carrier-restricted until the carrier’s financing and account requirements are satisfied. If you cancel, downgrade, leave the carrier or otherwise lose eligibility before credits finish, the remaining device balance can become due and future credits can stop.
How the advertised T-Mobile route works
The legacy promotional page says customers can get a free Galaxy Z Flip5 by adding a new line or trading in a qualifying phone on Go5G Plus or Go5G Next: T-Mobile Samsung offers. It does not establish that the offer is still active for every customer.

T-Mobile’s current store pages focus on newer devices, including the Z Flip7, and newer plan structures such as Experience More, Experience Beyond and Better Value: Virginia Beach store page and La Grange store page. That change makes live inventory and checkout confirmation essential.
Verify the offer before you commit
- Open the carrier’s current offer or phone catalog, not a search snippet or archived article.
- Search specifically for “Galaxy Z Flip5” and confirm the generation, storage and whether it is new, certified pre-owned or refurbished.
- Enter your ZIP code and account details, then confirm inventory and plan eligibility.
- Read the promotion terms for the required plan, new line, trade-in model, condition, credit duration and expiration date.
- Check the checkout totals for sales tax, activation or connection charges, new-line costs and any down payment.
- Compare the monthly device installment with the monthly promotional credit. A genuinely offsetting offer should show equal amounts, subject to stated terms.
- Save the promotion name or code, trade-in valuation, installment schedule, credit schedule and terms as screenshots or a PDF.
- Before shipping a trade-in, back up data, remove Google and Samsung accounts, disable device-finding and activation locks, and follow the carrier’s reset instructions.
- Photograph the phone, IMEI, packaging and shipping receipt.
- Check the first or second eligible bill. If credits are missing, contact the carrier promptly with the saved documentation.
Costs that can remain even when the phone payment reaches $0
- Sales tax calculated on the phone’s pre-credit price.
- Activation, connection or upgrade charges.
- The qualifying plan’s monthly cost and any required additional line.
- Resale value surrendered by trading in your old phone.
- Shipping or inspection-related costs if a trade-in is rejected or delayed.
- The unpaid device balance if you cancel or become ineligible early.
- Insurance, accessories, taxes on services and other optional add-ons.
A useful comparison is: total economic cost = plan premium + taxes and fees + trade-in value given up + early-exit risk − promotional credits. Do not publish or rely on a dollar total until the carrier shows the complete checkout for your account.
Prepare the trade-in carefully
Requirements vary by carrier and promotion. Samsung’s ordinary trade-in guidance requires the device to meet stated condition rules, including functioning screens and camera lenses without cracks: Samsung trade-in terms. A carrier promotion may be stricter or may allow damage only for selected models.

- Confirm the exact model, storage capacity and IMEI are eligible.
- Check the screen, camera lenses, hinge, ports, buttons and charging function for cracks or physical or liquid damage.
- Remove all account locks, including Find My Device and Samsung or Google activation protection.
- Confirm whether the old phone must be paid off and whether it must have been active on your account for a stated period. Verizon, for example, says some existing-customer promotions require 60 consecutive days of activity; that is not automatically a T-Mobile rule.
- Keep shipping and acceptance evidence until every credit posts.
What can go wrong—and how to respond
The promotion appears online but not at checkout
Indexed landing pages can outlive an offer. If the Z Flip5 cannot be selected, the promotion code fails, or the terms do not display, do not treat the page as proof of availability.
The credit is smaller than the installment
Recheck the plan tier, trade-in grade, storage version and promotion code before ordering. Save the screen showing both amounts; contact the carrier immediately if the order confirmation differs.

Request the inspection reason and dispute it with your photographs, IMEI and shipping receipt. A rejected trade-in can invalidate the promotional credit, so do not assume the original quote will survive inspection.
You cancel or upgrade early
Remaining installments may become payable and future credits may end. An early upgrade can also require payoff or forfeiture of credits. Review the carrier’s current terms before changing the line.

When buying used is the better deal
Because Samsung no longer sells the Z Flip5 directly, used or refurbished stock may be more dependable than chasing a discontinued promotion. Swappa’s July 2026 listings showed examples averaging roughly $322–$328, but that is not a universal price; condition, storage, carrier lock and inventory change the result: Swappa Galaxy Z Flip5 listings.
- Verify unlocked versus carrier-locked status and IMEI cleanliness.
- Check the return window, warranty and disclosed battery condition.
- Inspect hinge, inner screen, cover screen and camera lenses.
- Confirm the exact 256GB or 512GB capacity and compatibility with your intended carrier.
Buying outright avoids a long credit commitment, but it also means accepting the seller’s warranty and condition risks. A newer Flip model may be easier to finance, insure and repair, while a cheaper Samsung A-series phone may satisfy a “free Samsung” goal more realistically through current carrier catalogs.
Bottom line
A free Galaxy Z Flip5 is possible only as a conditional carrier-credit deal, not as a current Samsung-direct purchase. The T-Mobile page checked August 18, 2026, still describes the route, but its legacy language and newer current-store inventory mean you should proceed only when live checkout confirms the model, plan, credits, fees and trade-in terms. If you do not already want the qualifying plan or need an unlocked phone immediately, a verified used/refurbished Flip5—or a newer model on a current promotion—is usually the lower-risk choice.
