That figure excludes performance bonuses and does not establish how much has actually been paid. The amounts below come from 2025 contract reporting; available sources do not establish whether the terms changed after that reporting.
What LSU reportedly agreed to pay Kiffin
Axios reported an annual figure of about $13 million, citing The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander. Sporting News likewise reported a seven-year contract with a $91 million headline salary. Those figures describe reported contract terms, not independently verified payments or a guarantee that the full headline amount will be paid in every circumstance.
On that reported schedule, the straightforward calculation is $13 million multiplied by seven years, or $91 million. The $91 million is the headline salary total; it should not be treated as an all-in maximum that includes incentives.
Bonuses that could increase compensation
Axios reported a $1 million bonus if LSU won the SEC championship and a further $3 million for a national championship. Those are conditional amounts, separate from the $91 million headline salary; the reports do not establish that either bonus was earned.

Sporting News also reported, attributing the detail to ESPN, that LSU agreed to pay qualifying bonuses Kiffin would have earned during Ole Miss’s 2025 College Football Playoff run. The reports do not provide enough of the agreement’s conditions to calculate a guaranteed combined total. The possible bonuses therefore should not simply be added to $91 million and described as guaranteed compensation.
What the reported 80% provision means
Axios reported that if LSU fired Kiffin without cause before the contract ended, 80% of the remaining salary would be paid in monthly installments. Sporting News described an 80% remaining-salary buyout if Kiffin left LSU. Those summaries do not establish that every departure or termination scenario has the same trigger, calculation, or conditions, so the provision should not be read as a universal payout rule.
