No—not on the evidence in the cited announcements. Dell is supplying server systems for AI workloads at data centers operated by other companies. That is different from Dell hosting Bitcoin miners, running mining facilities, or mining Bitcoin itself. The distinction matters because the examples involve different equipment and different company roles.
What the Dell announcements actually say
In May 2026, IREN announced a purchase agreement with Dell for air-cooled Blackwell systems. IREN said it planned to deploy the equipment at its existing Childress, Texas data centers for an AI cloud contract, with commissioning targeted for early 2027. The announced total purchase price was approximately $1.6 billion, covering GPUs, servers, storage, networking, ancillary equipment, integration services, and warranties. IREN’s announcement identifies Dell as the equipment supplier; it does not describe Dell as the site operator or the workload as Bitcoin mining.
IREN Co-Founder and Co-CEO Daniel Roberts said, “Our relationship with Dell ensures access to hardware at the scale and speed the market demands.” That statement concerns access to hardware, not Dell taking over facility operations.
Why Bitcoin-mining sites and AI data centers can be confused
Some companies develop or operate facilities used for more than one kind of compute. But sharing a campus, power infrastructure, or data-center operator does not make the workloads interchangeable. The announcements in question distinguish Bitcoin mining, which uses specialized ASIC miners, from AI and high-performance computing projects using GPU systems.

| Example | Role described | Workload and equipment |
|---|---|---|
| IREN and Dell, May 2026 | Dell is the systems supplier; IREN is the customer and planned deployment operator. | AI cloud workloads using air-cooled Blackwell systems. |
| TeraWulf and Core42, December 2024 | TeraWulf described leased data-center infrastructure for Core42’s deployment; Dell supplied integrated racks and servers. | AI workloads using liquid-cooled Dell GPU servers. |
| Soluna and Blockware, June 2025 | Soluna described hosting and operating support; Blockware supplied mining-related services and ASIC access. | Bitcoin mining using ASICs. |
Dell’s role at TeraWulf’s Lake Mariner site
In December 2024, TeraWulf announced long-term leases for more than 70 MW of data-center infrastructure at Lake Mariner for Core42 AI deployment. The announcement described Dell IR5000 integrated racks and liquid-cooled Dell PowerEdge XE9680L GPU servers. Lake Mariner is associated with both Bitcoin mining and HPC hosting, but the Dell equipment in this particular project was for AI workloads, not Bitcoin mining. TeraWulf’s announcement quotes Dell infrastructure chief Arthur Lewis describing the systems as enabling AI innovation.
What a Bitcoin-mining hosting role looks like
Soluna’s June 2025 announcement offers a clearer example of mining-site hosting. It said an additional 3 MW of Blockware hosting at Project Dorothy 2 in Texas brought the site’s contracted footprint to 8 MW. Soluna described power management, data-center operations, and on-site support; Blockware’s role included supplying next-generation ASICs. Soluna’s announcement is evidence of a hosting arrangement, not a Dell mining operation.

This comparison shows why simply seeing Dell equipment at a company with mining operations is not enough to call Dell a mining data-center provider. Equipment sales, facility hosting, and mining operations are separate functions.
What the figures do—and do not—establish
- IREN’s approximately $1.6 billion figure is the announced total price of its Dell purchase agreement, not revenue earned by Dell from Bitcoin mining.
- TeraWulf’s more-than-70-MW figure refers to data-center infrastructure leased for Core42 AI deployment, not Bitcoin-mining capacity supplied by Dell.
- Soluna’s 8-MW figure was the contracted footprint reported for Project Dorothy 2 after the June 2025 addition; it is a company-reported figure tied to that announcement and may have changed since.
IREN also presented a projected $4.4 billion annualized run-rate revenue target tied to assumptions and timely GPU delivery, including planned deployments not fully contracted. It is a forward-looking company estimate, not realized revenue and not a measure of mining activity.

What remains unproven
The cited announcements do not substantiate that Dell directly mines Bitcoin or operates Bitcoin-mining data centers. They show Dell selling or supplying systems for AI projects involving companies that own, operate, or develop data-center infrastructure that may also serve mining or HPC. A separate direct announcement from Dell to run Bitcoin-mining facilities is not established by these sources.
ITPro’s May 2025 coverage of Dell Technologies World reported remarks from CoreWeave executive Brian Venturo about the company’s GPU-mining origins and its engineering relationship with Dell. That is context about a customer’s history and supplier relationship, not evidence that Dell itself operates a Bitcoin-mining site. ITPro’s event coverage should not be read as an announcement of a change in Dell’s business role.
