Harry Potter Actors: Reported Pay and What They’re Estimated to Be Worth

Reported film pay, role earnings and net-worth estimates tell different stories. Here’s what public figures say about Radcliffe, Watson and Grint—and what they cannot establish.

Public figures for Harry Potter stars mix film pay, earnings estimates and net-worth estimates—three different measures. The best-documented figures here concern Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, but they do not establish a reliable current ranking of the cast. Guinness World Records reports pay figures for Radcliffe and Watson without a usable year; 2024 reporting and a UK tribunal record provide more recent financial detail about Grint, but not a measure of his net worth.

What the reported Harry Potter pay figures show

A reported fee for a film is not the same as total earnings from a role, later residual or rights income, or net worth. These figures should be compared only within their own categories.

Daniel Radcliffe

Guinness World Records says Radcliffe secured $20 million per film, plus a $1 million licensing and royalties bonus. The record does not provide a usable year for these figures, so they should not be read as his current pay or assigned to a particular installment. Guinness World Records’ entry displays a date field rendered as 1 January 0001, which does not establish when the amounts applied.

Emma Watson

Guinness World Records reports that Watson received $10 million apiece for the final two Potter films. The entry does not state a year for those amounts, so they are reported historical compensation, not a current rate. The record entry likewise has no usable date for the figure.

Rupert Grint

The Associated Press reported in 2024 that Grint was calculated to have earned around £24 million from playing Ron Weasley. That is an estimate of earnings from the role, not a net-worth estimate. AP also reported that a £4.5 million sum linked to Potter residuals and related rights was at issue in Grint’s tax dispute. The amount relates to a particular transaction and its tax treatment; it does not show a continuing annual income stream.

What Grint’s tax case does—and does not—tell us

In Grint v Commissioners for HMRC [2024] UKFTT 956 (TC), dated 25 November 2024, the First-tier Tribunal (Tax Chamber) considered whether the £4.5 million sum connected to Grint’s Potter work should be treated under rules concerning sales of occupational income. The tribunal rejected his appeal. Judge Harriet Morgan concluded that the sum “derived substantially the whole of its value from the activities of Mr. Grint” and “is taxable as income,” as quoted in AP’s account. The tribunal decision is the primary record; AP’s report, published November 30, 2024, summarizes the ruling and reports a £1.8 million tax liability following the loss of the appeal.

The case documents how a particular sum was classified for tax purposes. Neither the £4.5 million amount nor the resulting tax liability measures Grint’s total assets, debts or present-day wealth.

Published estimates of the actors’ wealth

Net worth is a broad estimate of assets minus liabilities, not a record of gross film compensation. Celebrity-wealth sites and newspaper rich lists may use different methods and dates; their figures are not audited disclosures by the actors.

Actor Published estimate What it represents
Daniel Radcliffe £60 million The Sunday Times Rich List estimate reported by The Guardian in 2013; historical, not current. The Guardian’s 2013 profile attributes the figure to the list.
Daniel Radcliffe $120 million estimated net worth; $109 million in total base salaries across the films Celebrity Net Worth’s estimates on a page updated March 2026. These are the publisher’s figures, not audited disclosures or an official studio payroll record. Celebrity Net Worth’s Radcliffe page.
Rupert Grint $50 million estimated net worth Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate; its date and methodology are not independently established. The same page describes total base salary as approximately $60–70 million but lists career earnings totaling $34 million, an internal discrepancy that makes its salary totals unsuitable as a definitive figure. Celebrity Net Worth’s Grint page.

These estimates cannot be combined into a clean ranking: they use different currencies, dates and source methods. In particular, the £60 million Radcliffe estimate is from 2013, whereas Celebrity Net Worth’s dollar estimate is updated much later; converting between them without a specified exchange-rate date would imply a precision the sources do not provide.

Can we name the richest Harry Potter actor?

Not reliably from these figures. The available reporting gives selected pay claims, an estimate of Grint’s role earnings, a tax-case amount, and dated or publisher-generated wealth estimates. It does not provide a consistent, current net-worth calculation for the full cast. A film salary cannot establish who is richest: wealth also depends on later work, investments, spending, taxes, assets and liabilities, most of which are not documented consistently in these sources.

The clearest comparison is therefore by evidence type: Radcliffe and Watson have undated Guinness-reported pay figures; Grint has a 2024 role-earnings estimate and a documented tax dispute; and the wealth figures are explicitly estimates with differing dates and methods. Treating them as one leaderboard would make unlike numbers look comparable when they are not.
