CMS Holdings, DeSpread, Hyperithm, Core Ventures and other strategic investors also participated. The startup said it would use the capital to develop infrastructure for tokenized U.S. Treasury bills, Sukuk, real estate and other real-world assets (RWAs) on Bitcoin-linked networks.
The announcement named three products—HUSD, HUST and Publius—but Hamilton’s current documentation now focuses on USDh and sUSDh, a different reserve-backed digital-dollar design. That change makes the funding significant as an early Bitcoin-RWA milestone, not proof that a retail investment product is currently available.

What Hamilton means by tokenizing real-world assets
Tokenization puts a digital representation of an asset, ownership interest or contractual claim on a distributed ledger. The token is not automatically the legal asset itself. A Treasury token, for example, could represent direct ownership, a beneficial interest in a fund or special-purpose vehicle, or a contractual claim against an issuer.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
A complete structure has several separate layers:
- Off-chain asset: the Treasury bill, property, Sukuk or other instrument.
- Issuer and custody: the legal entity that owns or issues the asset and the custodian holding it.
- Token-holder claim: the rights to income, redemption, transfer and residual value.
- Settlement network: the blockchain or Layer 2 recording transfers.
- Compliance controls: identity checks, transfer restrictions, sanctions screening and other rules.
The U.S. Treasury’s advisory material describes tokenized assets as combining a core layer containing asset and ownership information with a service layer handling custody, settlement, escrow and regulatory requirements (Treasury advisory material). Before treating any Hamilton token as a Treasury equivalent, a reader would need the legal issuer, reserve custodian, governing law, redemption process and bankruptcy treatment.
The three products announced in January 2025
| Product | Announced purpose | What remains unconfirmed |
|---|---|---|
| HUSD | Bitcoin-native stablecoin backed by U.S. Treasury bills | Issuer, custody, reserve attestations or audits, par redemption, eligibility and legal classification |
| HUST | Tokenized U.S. Treasuries intended to offer 24/7 liquidity | Whether a public market existed, who made markets, redemption timing, transfer limits and underlying settlement arrangements |
| Publius | Infrastructure for financial institutions to tokenize assets on Bitcoin | Supported networks, issuance and compliance functions, custody, transfer-agent services, oracle design and public launch status |
The product descriptions come from the archived announcement and Hamilton’s LinkedIn post. They describe intended functions, not independently verified consumer availability.
Why “24/7 liquidity” needs careful reading
A token can transfer continuously while the underlying Treasury market, bank rails or redemption desk operates only during business hours. Continuous trading also does not guarantee buyers, narrow spreads, instant settlement or redemption at par. Liquidity could be contractual, algorithmic or merely an objective stated in the launch announcement.
What “on Bitcoin” actually means
Hamilton’s announcement referred to Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions, including Stacks and Core, rather than saying every operation occurred on Bitcoin’s base layer. A likely arrangement is:

Hamilton’s case for Bitcoin is its own thesis. GamesBeat reported that the company cited Bitcoin’s security, decentralization, resilience and uptime, as well as access to a large global wallet ecosystem. Layer 2s can provide application features and lower-cost transfers, but they add their own bridge, validator, upgrade and outage risks. Calling a product “Bitcoin-based” does not by itself establish that it has Bitcoin’s security model.
The reported first transaction
The archived announcement said Hamilton completed its inaugural Treasury-bill tokenization on July 4, 2024, using Stacks and Core among the Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions it cited (announcement PDF). The available material does not state the transaction size, the legal ownership structure, the custodian, whether tokens remained outstanding or whether the transaction was open to outside investors. It is therefore evidence of a reported demonstration, not proof of a live, liquid retail market.
Who Hamilton said it was targeting
Hamilton positioned the project for institutions, individual investors and users in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The company’s rationale was that dollar exposure, fixed-income products and real-estate or Sukuk access can be limited where currencies are unstable, capital controls apply or institutional minimums are high. GamesBeat described these emerging markets as an initial focus (report).
Intended audience is not the same as legal eligibility. A product aimed at global users can still exclude residents of particular countries, require KYC/AML checks, impose accredited-investor rules or lack local redemption rails.

What Hamilton’s current documentation says
Hamilton’s current documentation presents a different product direction: a “carry trade dollar” system centered on USDh and sUSDh (Hamilton documentation).
- USDh is described as a reserve-backed digital dollar supported by short-term sovereign and money-market instruments in emerging economies.
- sUSDh is described as a staked counterpart intended to reflect cumulative performance of the reserve framework.
- The model seeks to earn returns from sovereign-yield differentials rather than presenting only a U.S.-Treasury reserve.
- The documentation refers to independent audits and on-chain proof of reserves, but the available page does not establish a complete fee schedule, minimum investment, country list or public checkout flow.
These names and reserve descriptions differ from HUSD, HUST and Publius in the 2025 funding announcement. The available sources do not establish whether USDh and sUSDh are renamed versions, successors, replacements or a separate product line. Readers should not assume continuity without a direct company statement.
Can an ordinary investor buy or redeem Hamilton products?
The funding announcement itself is not an investment offer and does not prove public availability. No verified purchase or redemption flow, jurisdiction list, minimum, fee schedule, reserve report or smart-contract address is established by the sources summarized here.

Risk and regulatory questions
Legal and regulatory classification
A tokenized Treasury, stablecoin or yield product can implicate securities, fund, money-transmission, stablecoin, custody and investor-protection rules. Classification varies by structure and jurisdiction. Marketing language such as “stable,” “institutional-grade” or “Treasury-backed” does not determine the legal result.
Reserve and redemption risk
“Backed by Treasury bills” is incomplete until ownership, custody, valuation, maturity and redemption are documented. Proof that wallets contain tokens does not prove that reserves exist or that liabilities can be met in a stress event.
Technology and operational risk
Users face smart-contract bugs, compromised upgrade keys, bridge failures, Layer 2 halts, oracle errors and private-key loss. A multisignature control arrangement and contract audit can reduce some risks, but neither makes losses impossible.
Liquidity and market risk
Thin secondary markets can produce wide spreads or discounts even when transfers work. Underlying assets may have duration, credit or sovereign risk. A carry-trade design can also expose holders to emerging-market interest-rate, currency, capital-control and default risk; its return is not the same as a U.S. Treasury yield.

Access and compliance risk
KYC/AML screening, sanctions rules and local licensing can restrict transfers or redemption. A user may be able to hold a token in a wallet but still be unable to redeem it through an approved channel.
How Hamilton compares with other tokenization approaches
Hamilton is not the same as Hamilton Lane, the private-markets investment firm. It also occupies a different position from platforms whose primary role is regulated fund issuance and distribution.
| Provider | Broad positioning | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Hamilton | Bitcoin-linked RWA infrastructure and a documented USDh/sUSDh digital-dollar system | Current availability, legal structure, fees and eligibility require verification |
| Securitize | Institutional tokenization, compliance and distribution infrastructure | Not a simple consumer brokerage; public retail pricing was not established |
| Ondo Finance | Tokenized Treasury and yield products | Product eligibility and transfer restrictions vary by jurisdiction |
| Superstate | Blockchain-based investment products and tokenized Treasury exposure | Fund and transfer restrictions can still apply |
Securitize has described infrastructure for tokenized funds and Hamilton Lane’s SCOPE feeder fund, including on-chain liquidity integrations (company announcement). That reference concerns Hamilton Lane, not the Hamilton startup covered here.
Bottom line for readers
Hamilton’s $1.7 million pre-seed round is a real January 2025 financing and an early signal that builders want to bring Treasury, fixed-income and other RWA products to Bitcoin-linked networks. The evidence supports a conclusion about early-stage infrastructure development—not a conclusion that HUSD, HUST, Publius, USDh or sUSDh is a universally available, Treasury-equivalent retail investment.
Evaluate any current offering through its legal claim, reserve custody, redemption mechanics, liquidity, technology controls and jurisdictional eligibility. Until Hamilton clearly reconciles its original product names with its current USDh/sUSDh documentation, treat the 2025 announcement and the present documentation as related but not interchangeable descriptions.
