The figures were reported on April 23, 2025, and are historical court-disclosed estimates—not a current 2026 count or an independently audited measurement.
That distinction matters for anyone assessing Google’s artificial-intelligence position. Gemini was growing rapidly and had substantial reach, but the figures do not show how many people used the standalone chatbot, how often they returned, how much revenue Google generated, or whether Google acted unlawfully.
What Google disclosed in court
Reports about the antitrust proceedings said Google’s March 2025 internal figures put Gemini at roughly 350 million monthly users and 35 million daily users worldwide. TechCrunch reported the March figures and court context, while 9to5Google reported the accompanying daily-user figure and earlier comparison.
This was information shown in ongoing litigation, not a conventional Google blog announcement, quarterly earnings release or public market-research audit. The available coverage does not establish whether the figures came from a slide, testimony or another specific court exhibit, so the safest description is “Google’s internal data presented in court.”

Both numbers were worldwide estimates for March 2025. They should not be written as “Gemini currently has 350 million users” in 2026 unless a newer, independently supported figure confirms that claim.
How quickly Gemini grew
The same reporting gave an October 2024 comparison:

Using those reported figures, monthly users increased by about 260 million and daily users by about 26 million. March’s monthly and daily totals were each approximately 3.9 times October’s levels. Those are arithmetic calculations from rounded figures, not additional Google disclosures.

The increase demonstrates rapid expansion of reported reach. It does not establish retention, average sessions, prompts per user, paid subscriptions, revenue per user or profitability. A monthly user could have interacted once, and the data do not show whether people returned because Gemini was useful, because it appeared inside another Google product, or for some combination of reasons.

Coverage supplied the following comparison points, but they were not produced under one standardized measurement system:

On those reported numbers, Gemini’s monthly figure was about 58% of ChatGPT’s, while its daily figure was about 22% of ChatGPT’s. Gemini was also below Meta AI’s reported near-500-million monthly level. These are directional comparisons, not a definitive ranking: the dates differ, the figures came from different companies or statements, and “active user” may have meant different things in each case. Why the number mattered in Google’s antitrust case
The disclosure was relevant to arguments about whether Google can use its existing search and distribution power to strengthen its position in generative AI.
Why Google could point to the figure
A large and fast-growing user base supports Google’s argument that AI competition is active and that consumers have meaningful alternatives. It also shows that Gemini had become a significant product rather than a purely experimental service.

Why regulators could point to the same figure
The U.S. Department of Justice has argued that Google’s position in search and its distribution agreements matter in adjacent markets. Google controls or influences major channels—including Search, Android, Chrome, Workspace, Gmail and hardware partnerships—that can expose existing users to its AI products.
The count therefore shows adoption, not legality. It does not prove that Google unlawfully leveraged search, nor does it resolve the antitrust case.

The public reports do not provide a complete methodology for the 350-million estimate. In particular, they do not settle whether Google counted only people who deliberately opened the Gemini app or also counted activity across Google’s broader product ecosystem.
- Users of the standalone Gemini website or mobile app may have been included.
- Gemini features in Workspace applications or Gmail may also have been relevant; 9to5Google noted that this scope was unclear.
- Distribution through Android, Chrome, Samsung devices and other Google-controlled or partnered surfaces may have expanded exposure, as reported by TechCrunch.
- The available coverage does not establish whether logged-out users, enterprise accounts, education users, automated interactions or API activity were included.
- It also does not explain deduplication across devices and services, or whether consumer and business activity were combined.
For that reason, “Google’s Gemini offering” or “Gemini-related users” is more precise than claiming that 350 million people independently chose to use the dedicated chatbot each month.

What the daily-to-monthly ratio suggests
Dividing 35 million daily users by 350 million monthly users produces an approximate 10% DAU-to-MAU ratio. This indicates broad monthly reach alongside a smaller group measured as daily users.
It is not a standalone measure of quality or loyalty. Daily and monthly counts may use different definitions, embedded interactions may not resemble chatbot sessions, and rounded totals conceal precision. The figures also reveal nothing about prompt volume, session duration or user satisfaction.
What likely drove the growth
The available reporting points to a mixture of product development and distribution:
- Availability across Google services and Workspace applications.
- Exposure through Android and Samsung device relationships.
- Access through Chrome and other Google-controlled surfaces.
- Rapid iteration and new Gemini features during the period.
Those channels make it impossible to separate organic demand from bundled distribution using the published numbers. The data do not quantify how many users sought Gemini out, encountered it through a default or integration, or activated it after using another Google service.
What the figures do—and do not—tell investors and industry watchers
They do show
- Gemini had substantial worldwide reach by March 2025.
- Its reported monthly and daily totals rose sharply from October 2024.
- Google’s distribution ecosystem may be an important competitive asset in AI.
They do not show
- Gemini’s current user total in 2026.
- The precise number of standalone-app users.
- Model quality relative to ChatGPT, Meta AI or other systems.
- User retention, engagement intensity, revenue, margins or profitability.
- Whether Google’s conduct violated antitrust law.
The court setting also makes attribution essential. A company’s litigation presentation can contain consequential information without being an independent audit; that qualification does not make the data false, but it limits what can safely be inferred from them.
The Bottom Line
Google’s court-disclosed data put Gemini at approximately 350 million monthly users and 35 million daily users worldwide in March 2025—up from roughly 90 million and 9 million in October 2024. The figures establish rapid growth and significant reach, but their scope and methodology remain incomplete, and they should not be treated as a current 2026 count or a clean comparison with ChatGPT and Meta AI.
