The enhanced trade-in period ended September 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT; the related birthday-keychain offer ended September 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
This historical promotion was reported by 9to5Google. As of August 18, 2026, Google’s US store has moved on to the Pixel 11 family and current trade-in offers.
Google restored preorder-level trade-in values
Google’s 2024 birthday sale marked the company’s 26th birthday. Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998, while its long-running birthday celebration is associated with September 27. The US Google Store, which had joined the birthday event the previous year, brought back elevated trade-in values for buyers of qualifying Pixel 9 phones.
The values were promotional amounts, not guaranteed cash payouts. Google still required the traded handset to pass its eligibility and condition inspection. The figures below were advertised specifically toward the lowest-storage Pixel 9 Pro XL; they should not be assumed to apply unchanged to every Pixel 9 configuration.

The birthday keychain promotion additionally covered the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. The keychain had to be added to the cart; it was not an automatic shipment.
Other 2024 birthday-sale offers
- Pixel 8a: $100 off, bringing the advertised price to $399.
- Pixel Buds Pro 2: $30 in Google Store credit with the purchase, under the reported 2024 promotion.
The Pixel 8a discount was also available through Amazon, but the birthday-sale terms above described the Google Store promotion. Neither price is a current August 2026 offer.

Deadlines, exclusions and stacking rules
- Enhanced trade-ins: ended September 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
- Birthday keychain: ended September 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
- The keychain could be used with preorder items, but not with waitlisted, rain-check or out-of-stock products.
- Other than the eligible phone trade-in and the stated discount offer, the promotion generally could not be combined with unrelated promotional codes or offers.
- The reported values and rules were for the US Google Store; other regions required their own terms.
Why the “boost” mattered
Google was not replacing its normal valuation system. The sale temporarily restored the higher promotional amounts seen during Pixel 9-series preorder sales.
Base value versus promotional value
A base trade-in value is the ordinary amount assigned by Google’s trade-in system. A promotional value is the elevated amount available only when buying a qualifying product during the event. The table’s destination was the lowest-storage Pixel 9 Pro XL, so a buyer should not transfer each figure automatically to a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro Fold purchase.

Who stood to benefit most
Pixel Fold owners had the highest listed amount at $760. Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro owners also had relatively high advertised values at $699 and $540. The offer was not limited to Pixel owners: an iPhone 15 Pro was listed at $600, a Galaxy S24 at $400 and a OnePlus 9 Pro at $195, making the promotion relevant to switchers.

Is the promotion still available?
No. The Pixel 9 Pro birthday promotion expired in 2024. Google’s current US phone category now promotes the Pixel 11 family and separate trade-in incentives: Google Store phones. The historical Pixel 9 Pro page remains at this URL, but its existence does not indicate that the birthday pricing is active.
For readers considering a current Pixel purchase, the live Google Store page advertises trade-in savings, 0% APR financing for 36 months and Google device-protection options. Financing lowers the monthly payment, not the total purchase price, and protection eligibility, deductibles and service terms vary by region.
Current accessory option
Google’s current Pixel Buds Pro 2 page showed a $189 price, reduced from $229, with a $40 saving and an August 23 end date observed August 18, 2026. That is a separate current offer, not a continuation of the 2024 birthday promotion.
The Bottom Line
The 2024 Google Store birthday sale was valuable chiefly because it restored preorder-level trade-in amounts—up to a listed $760 for a Pixel Fold toward the lowest-storage Pixel 9 Pro XL.
