For a clearly time-stamped reference, Kitco’s October 2, 2026, 5:00 p.m. EST spot snapshot put gold at $4,139.80 per troy ounce and silver at $60.27 per troy ounce; both were lower on the day. Other providers reported different prices and daily directions, so “stable” does not describe the whole session consistently.

The figures below are provider-reported quotes, not interchangeable measurements of one official settlement. The providers’ quote times and close definitions differ, and the available information does not establish the precise reason for every discrepancy.

Kitco’s and Monex’s displayed daily changes were negative, while GoldPrice.org’s close table showed both metals higher. That conflict is why a weekend update should name its provider, quote type and timestamp rather than report an unqualified “Friday close.”
Why providers can show different prices
“Gold price” or “silver price” can refer to different things: a live spot quote, a benchmark such as the LBMA Gold Price, a regional price, or a provider’s daily closing figure. The World Gold Council explains that benchmark and regional prices serve different purposes, and its data page says prices are generally quoted in currency units per troy ounce unless otherwise stated; that dataset is updated weekly. The reported snapshots also come from different providers and times. The available provider information does not fully compare their methodologies, so the differences should not be attributed to any one specific calculation or market convention without further evidence.
What Friday’s market commentary said
Kitco reported that gold and silver were firmer in early U.S. trading after a weaker-than-expected U.S. employment report. Its commentary cited lower Treasury yields, reduced expectations of an October Federal Reserve rate increase and safe-haven demand as supportive factors, while Strait of Hormuz risk kept energy-driven inflation in view. These were Kitco’s reported explanations for early trading, not proof that any one factor caused the eventual close. Kitco market news

How to use a weekend quote
A provider’s spot quote is a market reference, not necessarily the amount a buyer will pay for a coin or bar. The World Gold Council distinguishes spot, benchmark and regional prices; the retail price of physical bullion also depends on the item and seller. World Gold Council
- Check the provider, quote type, timestamp and time zone.
- Confirm the currency and unit, including whether the quote is per troy ounce.
- Read the displayed daily change and range alongside the price; providers may report different directions.
- For physical bullion, compare the item’s weight, dealer ask price, bid/ask spread, premium and seller terms. The quoted market sources do not establish a generally applicable retail premium.
Because markets are closed for the weekend, these Friday figures are the latest snapshots in the cited reports, not a forecast of where prices will open or move next.
