The first phase of the April 2025 Global Sources Hong Kong Shows opened on April 11 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong and ran through April 14. It combined gaming and esports peripherals, consumer electronics, electronic components, supplier meetings and product-discovery programs. The event’s central milestone was the debut of Global Sources Gaming as a standalone exhibition. Global Sources later reported 63,308 buyer visits from approximately 173 countries and regions—visits, not necessarily unique people.

The organizer’s opening announcement is available through PR Newswire. The 63,308 figure comes from the official Phase I show report. Because the report counts buyer visits, it should not be read as a count of unique attendees. The more-than-60,000 figure was a projection issued before the event, not a final result.
Why the standalone Global Sources Gaming show mattered
Gaming had previously appeared as part of broader electronics programming. In April 2025, Global Sources gave it a dedicated exhibition identity, reflecting the way gaming hardware now spans specialist peripherals, branded ecosystems and community-led product discovery rather than a single computer category.
Global Sources said the new show included more than 200 gaming brands. Examples named by the organizer included DAREU, AULA, PXN, VGN, FL•ESPORTS and Morphling; these are examples from the event announcement, not an independent ranking.

The dedicated format gave OEM, ODM, brand and distribution buyers a way to compare a complete gaming setup while also meeting suppliers for adjacent electronics. It did not, by itself, establish that every displayed product had passed independent performance or compliance testing.
IP collaborations and the “blind box economy”
Global Sources presented character licensing and collectible merchandising as commercial tools for electronics companies. The event material described three overlapping approaches.
Licensed global characters
Qishun Innovation was cited as working with recognized global intellectual property on co-branded and licensed consumer electronics.
Original character ownership
Etechgroups showcased products built around its original “MEOWZART” character IP. Owning an original character can give a manufacturer more control over product design, packaging and future merchandise than relying entirely on a third-party license.

Mixed licensed and proprietary ranges
AKKO and MonsGeek were cited for products associated with properties including One Piece, Hatsune Miku and Joy of Life, alongside their own designs.
The commercial logic is straightforward: an IP tie-in can differentiate a crowded keyboard, headset or accessory category, create emotional value and support repeat purchases or collectible editions. Those are strategic implications illustrated by the show, not proof that licensed products have become the dominant electronics model.
What blind boxes meant for B2B buyers
The blind-box displays were framed as more than finished consumer toys. They connected licensed characters with wholesale services, accessories, limited editions, live engagement and merchandising programs. Examples named by Global Sources included:
- Akko’s wholesale service for IP keycap blind boxes.
- IP Happi Class’s “Happi Town” blind-box series.
- A limited “Show Genie” mascot blind box created for the event’s 30th-anniversary context, as described by Global Sources.
For an importer or retailer, this model can mean sourcing a coordinated product line—such as themed keycaps, keyboards, packaging and display items—instead of a single SKU. It also adds licensing, minimum-guarantee, territory and inventory risks.

Licensing checks before an order
- Request the licensee’s authorization for the exact product and factory.
- Confirm territory, sales channels, product-category rights and contract duration.
- Obtain trademark and copyright documentation, not just a product photograph or brand logo.
- Check whether a stated collaboration covers export to your destination market.
- Put indemnities, takedown responsibility and warranty obligations in the supply agreement.
Innovation awards and the esports summit
Innovation Awards
Global Sources began its Innovation Awards during Phase I’s first day and described a partnership with the European Product Design Award, including a “Best Product Design Award.” These programs positioned design and product differentiation alongside conventional supplier meetings. An award or finalist position is promotional recognition, not a substitute for technical validation.
KOLs and Buyers’ Favorite Gaming Gear Awards
The organizer described a dual-scoring system: 70% from professional KOL judges and 30% from on-site buyer voting. The six categories were mice, keyboards, chairs, monitors, controllers and headsets. Eighteen finalists were scheduled to compete in a testing zone before “Most Popular Products” were selected.
This format is useful for visibility and hands-on discovery, but it is not equivalent to laboratory testing, standardized benchmarking or independent long-term reliability testing.
Esports Summit
An Esports Summit and workshop program ran alongside the exhibition. Named participants included representatives or leaders associated with Unilumin, XCL World Academy, CDW and the North America Scholastic Esports Federation. Available event material supports describing it as supporting programming within the show, not as a separately measured major conference.

How the hybrid online-to-offline model worked
Global Sources promoted an O2O (online-to-offline) process covering pre-event registration-data marketing, digital exhibitor services, livestreams, virtual product pages and post-event matchmaking. The model lets a buyer shortlist suppliers before traveling, continue conversations after the halls close and connect physical booth meetings with online inquiry records.
The official digital report covers the broader April 11–30, 2025 show and virtual-activity period, not Phase I alone. It recorded:
- 346,880 overseas buyers browsing Virtual Show pages.
- More than 450,000 buyers reached by 20 livestreaming channels.
- 745,000 livestream visits.
- 2,848 buyers following 316 interactive exhibitors.
- 1,049 buyers sending 3,150 inquiries through the platform.
- 388 buyers engaging with 1,038 exhibitors on site through supplier-app code scanning.
These metrics indicate digital reach and lead activity; they do not show how many inquiries became orders or how many leads were unique companies. The figures are reported in the official April 2025 show report.

The Phase I report lists a buyer base spanning manufacturing, office buying, exporting, distribution, trading, importing, e-commerce, retail, wholesaling, agency and consulting. That mix matters because the same exhibitor may be approached by a factory buyer seeking components, an e-commerce operator seeking a private-label accessory, or a distributor seeking a licensed finished range.

For buyers, the event’s breadth was an opportunity to compare suppliers and product directions in one location. It was not a guarantee that all exhibitors had the same production capacity, certifications, quality systems or export experience.
What Phase I signaled for electronics sourcing
- Gaming is becoming a specialized sourcing ecosystem. A dedicated show brings peripherals, furniture, displays, audio and software-adjacent services into one buying conversation.
- IP is a differentiation strategy. Licensed and original characters can move products away from pure price comparison, while adding legal and royalty obligations.
- Collectibles are entering electronics merchandising. Blind-box keycaps and mascot products show how accessories can support limited editions and repeat engagement.
- Trade fairs are increasingly hybrid. Digital catalogs, livestreams, inquiry tools and scan-to-connect features extend the sourcing process beyond the booth.
- Community feedback is part of product marketing. KOL judging and buyer voting create visibility, but buyers still need engineering and commercial checks.
A practical sourcing checklist
- Define the product, destination market, target landed cost and expected order volume.
- Verify the supplier’s legal company identity and manufacturing location.
- Request samples from the same production line intended for the order.
- Separate sample, trial-order, production, packaging, tooling and licensed-IP minimum order quantities.
- Check electrical, radio, battery and safety requirements for the destination country.
- Request test reports, certificate numbers and the issuing laboratory’s details.
- For branded products, verify licensee authorization, territory and product-category rights in writing.
- Confirm tooling ownership, packaging specifications, warranty coverage, spare parts and after-sales response times.
- Use a written purchase agreement covering specifications, inspection rights, delivery terms and remedies.
- Arrange pre-production and pre-shipment inspections where the order value justifies them.
- Calculate freight, insurance, duties, taxes, testing, marketplace fees and currency exposure in the landed cost.
- Confirm lead times and available capacity; do not treat a booth or marketplace listing as proof of reliable delivery.
How to interpret the attendance numbers
The opening release projected more than 60,000 professional B2B visitors. The post-event Phase I report recorded 63,308 buyer visits from approximately 173 countries and regions. The latter is the stronger post-event measure, but “visits” can include repeat attendance by the same buyer. The report also notes that its geographic percentage breakdown excludes buyers from mainland China and Hong Kong, so those percentages should not be generalized to the entire audience.
Neither number establishes order volume, conversion rate or supplier performance. They show the scale of reported buyer traffic and international reach.
Bottom line for buyers and event professionals
Phase I was significant because it joined a standalone gaming exhibition with consumer electronics, components, IP-led product development, collectible merchandising, design awards and digital matchmaking. Its 63,308 reported buyer visits show substantial post-event traffic, while the event’s licensing and blind-box emphasis points to a shift toward branded, experiential products. Buyers using the event or its marketplace still need normal procurement discipline: sample approval, certification checks, factory verification, licensing proof, inspections and a full landed-cost calculation.
