The company’s 2008 annual report later confirmed that the London facility opened that year; it did not establish when the Miami relocation was completed.
What Global Crossing announced in May 2008
Data Center Knowledge listed Rich Miller’s article, “Global Crossing Expands in London, Miami,” on May 6, 2008. A contemporaneous Spanish-language reproduction of the company announcement described two distinct plans: a London hosting facility for European customers and a relocation of Global Crossing’s new Miami data center.
The reproduction said the Miami move was intended to address U.S. customers’ space and hosting needs, as well as their interest in connectivity to Latin America. Those explanations come from the reproduced announcement, not from the annual-report confirmation of the London opening.
How the London and Miami plans differed
| Location | Plan described in the announcement | Stated customer rationale | Later status established by the sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | Plan to open a hosting data center | Serve European customers | Global Crossing’s 2008 Form 10-K says the company opened a new London data center during 2008. |
| Miami | Relocate the company’s new data center | Address U.S. hosting and space needs and interest in connectivity to Latin America | The sources do not establish the relocation’s completion date. |
The distinction matters: the London announcement was a plan to open a facility, while the Miami item was a relocation. The later SEC filing confirms the London opening, but the available evidence does not provide the same completion confirmation for Miami.

What the annual report confirms—and what it does not
Global Crossing Limited’s SEC-filed 2008 Form 10-K states: “In 2008, Global Crossing opened a new data center in London.” It also says the company was continuing work on a data center in Amsterdam, which it then expected to open in early 2009. That date records the company’s expectation at the time, not proof that the Amsterdam facility opened on schedule.
The filing places London and planned Amsterdam facilities within Global Crossing’s broader hosting and communications services, and says they were equipped to offer services consistent with those available in other regions. It does not give site-specific capacity, investment, customer counts, or detailed service specifications for London or Miami.

Management change described in the announcement
The announcement reproduction also reported that Gabriel del Campo, who managed Global Crossing’s existing Latin American data center business, would become vice president of EMEA data center services and global data center product management. This appointment is reported by the reproduction; the annual-report evidence cited here corroborates the London opening but does not independently verify the executive change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the story matters as infrastructure news
The plans connected facility locations with customer geography and network access: London was presented as a way to serve European hosting customers, while Miami was tied to U.S. hosting demand and connectivity to Latin America. The record supports that strategic framing, but not a more precise assessment of the facilities’ scale, cost, or commercial results. Global Crossing reported collaboration services—not data center services—as approximately 6% of consolidated revenue in 2008, compared with approximately 6% in 2007 and 7% in 2006. Those company-wide figures should not be treated as revenue from either facility.
