The German Federal Government’s energy FAQ says that more than 90 percent of the natural gas landing at German LNG terminals comes from the United States, according to the government’s 2026 FAQ, accessed October 3, 2026. The German Federal Network Agency likewise describes Germany’s current LNG deliveries as coming from the United States and says Persian Gulf gas plays no significant role in German supply. That description is about LNG sourcing; it does not mean the United States is Germany’s only energy supplier or that all German gas arrives as LNG. Why diversification and reassurance can coexist
Calling a supplier reliable describes the government’s reported posture at that time. The government FAQ identifies both pipeline gas and LNG as routes through which sufficient gas can be made available. That provides context for diversification across supply routes, but the available reporting does not establish a particular event or dispute that prompted the spokesperson’s October 2 remarks.
