Check the exact offer and your local store before making a trip. Your final value depends on an in-store inspection, and a completed trade is final.
What GameStop Trade Days is—and what it is not
GameStop’s regular trade-in program lets customers exchange eligible items for the cash or store credit available for that item and location. “Trade Days” refers to a limited-time promotion, not a guarantee that every trade receives a bonus or that an event is active nationwide. A store sign, email, app banner or old search result may describe a different offer, market or date.
A third-party article dated May 19, 2026 describes Trade Days as a promotion involving selected games, consoles, controllers, accessories and electronics, but does not establish a current official nationwide schedule or complete offer terms. The official GameStop trade page is the place to check current trade information; confirm any event-specific offer with the participating store before relying on it.

Before trading, verify the offer’s start and end dates, participating locations, eligible products, whether it applies to cash or credit, whether Pro membership is required, whether it stacks with other offers, and whether it covers damaged items. Also check whether the offer applies to online estimates, in-store trades or both. GameStop’s current page advertises 10% extra on trades for Pro members, subject to displayed terms and exclusions; that is not evidence of a separate Trade Days bonus.

What can you trade?
GameStop lists a range of categories, but eligibility is product-specific. Its program covers selected items at selected U.S. and Guam stores, and availability and pricing can vary by location and on GameStop.com. Being in one of these categories does not mean every model or condition will be accepted.

Check the exact model in the trade lookup. For an unusual, high-value, incomplete or damaged item—or one that does not appear online—call the destination store before bringing it in.

Cash or store credit: which should you choose?

GameStop’s FAQ describes credit as usually around 20% higher than cash, but that is a general indication, not a guaranteed ratio for an item, store or promotion. Check both amounts for your specific trade. GameStop describes trade cards as in-store credit and lists cash separately as an in-store payment method; see its trade FAQ and ways to pay guidance.
A “swap” is not a one-for-one replacement. If a console’s trade value is less than the price of the console you want, you pay the difference. Credit also cannot be treated as equivalent to cash in a household budget: its practical value depends on whether you would otherwise make an eligible GameStop purchase.

How to check the value before you go
- Open GameStop’s trade page. Use the official trade-in lookup.
- Find the exact item. Search the specific game, console model, device or accessory, matching details such as model and storage capacity where applicable.
- Record cash and credit estimates. Note what the page displays and check whether a promotion or Pro benefit is reflected.
- Read the offer terms. Confirm dates, payout type, eligible items, membership rules, exclusions and whether offers combine.
- Call the store for edge cases. Ask about participation, stock or acceptance for an unusual, incomplete, damaged or high-value item.
- Bring it in for inspection. The online figure is an estimate, not a binding quote. GameStop’s condition guidance says the final value and acceptance depend on in-store inspection.
Condition, completeness and device preparation
Check function and physical condition
GameStop says eligible products generally need to be functional, safe to handle and free of major physical damage. Scratches, residue, smudges, dings and other cosmetic wear may reduce the offer. Its condition guidance says it will not accept items with smoke damage, strong odors, unsafe cracks or damage, pests, or evidence of pests. A working item is not necessarily eligible for the highest value: GameStop’s trade terms say products must be in good condition and include necessary components to receive the highest value.
Bring the parts the item needs to be tested or used, such as required power cables, controllers, chargers, docks or storage components. Missing parts can lower the offer or lead to rejection. Do not assume a promotion makes a defective product eligible at full value.

Protect your data before handing over a device
GameStop’s published trade terms warn that by trading a device, you release the company from claims related to loss, unauthorized access, use or disclosure of personal data left on it. Back up what you need and use the manufacturer’s erase procedure; a reset alone should not be treated as a universal guarantee that data has been removed.

- Sign out of relevant Apple, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and other accounts.
- Remove activation locks and device-management restrictions, and disable “Find My” features where applicable.
- Factory-reset phones, tablets, computers and other personal devices using the maker’s instructions.
- Remove SIM and microSD cards, discs and personal accessories.
- Bring required chargers, power supplies, controllers, docks and cables; clean the item without putting liquid in ports or vents.
- Keep model and serial-number details available if you have them.
What happens at the store?
- A store employee identifies the item and checks whether it is eligible there.
- The store inspects its condition, function, completeness and damage.
- The employee gives you a final quote based on that inspection.
- You decide whether to accept; if you do, the trade is completed for the applicable cash or credit.
Ask the store about local requirements such as identification or transaction limits; the available official information does not establish one universal rule for every item and location. Review the amount and payout type before agreeing. GameStop’s published terms say all trades are final, so do not accept a quote expecting to reverse the transaction later.

When is trading at GameStop worth it?
GameStop can suit someone who values a quick, local transaction, wants store credit for a purchase already planned, or has an item that would be awkward to list, ship or sell privately. A confirmed promotion may improve the economics, but calculate it using the actual offer terms and your specific quote. The advertised Pro-member extra is not automatically a reason to join: compare the membership’s current cost and terms with the trade benefit you expect.
Value depends on the exact model, demand, condition, completeness, local acceptance, payout choice and any applicable offer. Current consoles, popular physical games, newer phones or tablets, complete controllers and named promotional items may attract interest, but there is no reliable universal ranking or guaranteed strong price. Check the actual quote rather than assuming a category will pay well.
When should you compare other selling options?
For a rare or boxed collectible, a high-demand device, or anything for which GameStop’s quote looks low, compare it with completed private-sale prices for the same model and condition. A private listing can potentially bring more, but subtract marketplace fees and shipping, and account for time spent answering buyers, payment risk, returns and the work of packaging. Local sales avoid shipping but bring their own no-show, scam and meeting-safety concerns.

For phones, tablets and computers, compare a manufacturer or carrier trade-in if you are upgrading; these programs may be limited to specific products and may issue purchase or account credit rather than unrestricted cash. A reputable local game store may be worth contacting for retro or collectible hardware. If an item is too damaged or obsolete to sell, look at responsible electronics recycling instead. None of these channels is always the best deal: compare the net value and restrictions, not just the headline amount.
