Only part of the January 2026 “good news” pricing report held up. In the U.S., Samsung kept the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s starting price at $1,299.99, but raised the Galaxy S26 and S26+ starting prices by $100 each. The final prices were announced on February 25, 2026—after the report’s forecast—and general availability began March 11.
What the January report predicted—and what Samsung announced
A January 2, 2026 report forecast unchanged U.S. starting prices of about $799 for the Galaxy S26, $999 for the S26+, and $1,299 for the S26 Ultra. It described those figures as a reported prelaunch decision, not an official Samsung price list. The report suggested Samsung might absorb higher component costs to stay competitive with Apple and Chinese manufacturers, even at the expense of its margins, and questioned whether a double-storage preorder promotion would return. Those explanations were the report’s account, not a Samsung statement of its pricing rationale. (January 2 report)
Samsung’s U.S. announcement on February 25 set different prices for two models. The comparison below uses the S25 U.S. launch starting prices and Samsung’s consumer-facing S26 announcement:
| Model | Prelaunch report | S25 U.S. launch starting price | S26 U.S. launch starting price | Change from S25 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | About $799 | $799.99 | $899.99 | +$100 |
| Galaxy S26+ | About $999 | $999.99 | $1,099.99 | +$100 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | About $1,299 | $1,299.99 | $1,299.99 | No change |
The S25 figures are from Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP list; the S26 figures are the starting prices in Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement. The prelaunch estimates were rounded, so they are not exact like-for-like MSRP figures. In short, the whole series did not stay flat: the S26 and S26+ rose, while the Ultra’s starting price did not. Why the Ultra’s unchanged price does not mean the whole lineup was flat
The unchanged $1,299.99 entry price is meaningful if you were considering the Ultra: Samsung did not raise its U.S. base price from the S25 Ultra’s launch level. But the price comparison applies to each model’s starting configuration, not every storage tier. Samsung listed the S26 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256GB, $1,499.99 for 512GB, and $1,799.99 for 1TB. Choosing more storage can therefore increase the purchase price substantially even though the entry price stayed the same. (Samsung’s U.S. announcement)
It is reasonable to read the Ultra’s unchanged entry price as preserving Samsung’s premium-model price anchor while the lower models became more expensive. That is an interpretation of the price pattern, not a reason Samsung has publicly stated in the cited announcement.

How to read current prices, discounts, and trade-in offers
A price shown during shopping may not be the phone’s regular starting price. Keep these offer types separate when comparing checkout totals:
- MSRP or starting price: Samsung’s announced U.S. entry price for a model. It is the baseline for comparing generations, not necessarily the amount every buyer pays.
- Temporary Samsung discount: A promotional reduction that can change or expire. Samsung’s product pages may show current offers alongside the regular price; check the terms and checkout total before treating a sale figure as permanent. (Galaxy S26 buy page; Galaxy S26 Ultra buy page)
- Trade-in credit: A quoted “up to” amount is a maximum subject to the eligible device, its condition, and the offer’s requirements. It is not a guaranteed discount for every trade-in.
- Carrier promotion: A low advertised cost may depend on a qualifying plan, activation, installment agreement, and monthly bill credits over time. Compare the plan and financing obligations, not just the headline phone price; a credit may stop if you leave or pay off early.
- Storage-upgrade promotion: A time-limited offer may provide a higher-capacity model for the price of a lower-capacity one. That does not make the higher-storage model’s regular MSRP lower.
- Accessory bundle: Accessories included in an offer can add value, but they do not reduce the phone’s stated MSRP.
Samsung’s offer terms describe promotions with specific eligibility and time limits. The January report raised the possibility that a double-storage preorder deal might not return; that warning should not be read as proof that a particular configuration upgrade applied to every S26 model or buyer. Check the offer terms for the model, sales channel, dates, combination rules, and stock limits before relying on a storage bonus. (Samsung S26 offers and benefits)

For the current U.S. product pages, Samsung lists the S26 from $899.99 and the S26 Ultra from $1,299.99 before applicable offers or trade-in. Those pages can change as promotions rotate, so a live discount is not evidence that the launch MSRP was lower. (Galaxy S26 buy page; Galaxy S26 Ultra product page)
A note about a $799.99 S26 listing
Samsung’s March 2026 business MSRP PDF appears to list a $799.99 S26 128GB configuration, while Samsung’s public launch announcement gives the consumer-facing S26 starting price as $899.99. The listing is a configuration-specific business document; it does not establish that $799.99 was the general U.S. consumer launch price. For the launch-price comparison above, the public announcement is the clearer source. (Samsung March 2026 MSRP list; Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement)

Which S26 price is relevant to your upgrade?
If you want the least expensive S26
The S26 is the lowest starting-price model at $899.99 in Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement, but that is $100 above the S25’s $799.99 launch starting price. Compare the unlocked checkout total with any carrier offer, and include the plan cost, trade-in eligibility, and duration of bill credits before deciding which is cheaper for you.
If you want a larger phone without the Ultra
The S26+ starts at $1,099.99, also $100 above its predecessor’s U.S. launch starting price. Its larger-model position may suit buyers who want that form factor, but the price increase makes checking a discount or a strong S25 trade-in more consequential. Do not assume a trade-in maximum applies to your particular device.

If you want the Ultra
The Ultra is the only model whose U.S. starting price avoided an increase. Its unchanged $1,299.99 entry price is the headline’s genuine good news, but the 512GB and 1TB configurations carry higher listed prices. Check whether your storage needs justify that premium or whether a time-limited upgrade offer changes the value comparison.
If you already own a Galaxy S25
The higher S26 and S26+ launch prices raise the cost of moving to those models at full MSRP. Compare the value Samsung or a carrier actually offers for your S25, the final price after eligible credits, and the specific improvements you would use. If your current phone meets your needs, the price table alone gives no reason to upgrade.
Prices depend on country and purchase terms
These figures are U.S. dollar launch prices and do not apply automatically in Canada, the U.K., Australia, Europe, or other markets. Samsung prices and promotions vary by country. Even within the U.S., an unlocked retail purchase, a carrier installment offer, and a trade-in-adjusted checkout total are different transactions; compare like with like.
