Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Bottom line: There is no reliable evidence that Fuel Save Pro delivers meaningful fuel savings. A historical magnetic-device operation using the Fuel Saver Pro name was targeted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for allegedly false mileage and emissions claims, while current complaints describe an ECO/OBD2 product with connection, refund and performance problems. Those records do not prove the present-day seller is the same legal entity, but they do make the product a poor-risk purchase unless the seller can provide independently replicated, controlled test data and a clear refund process.
What Fuel Save Pro is—and why the name is confusing
“Fuel Saver Pro” appeared in a 2004 FTC complaint as a reseller name for FuelMAX and Super FuelMAX magnetic devices. The products were marketed as clamps placed over a vehicle’s fuel line, with claims that magnets would “fracture” hydrocarbon chains. The complaint identifies websites including fuelsaverpro.com and says sales began at least in January 2004.

Current consumer reports instead describe a plug-in ECO/OBD2 device with a blinking light. The available public record does not establish that this product is legally the same product or company as the historical magnetic-device operation. That distinction matters: the old FTC case should not be presented as a new enforcement action against today’s OBD2 seller.
What the FTC found about the historical product
The FTC alleged that advertisements for the magnetic devices were false or misleading under Section 5 of the FTC Act. Claims included:

The complaint stated that the devices did not substantially increase fuel economy or reduce emissions. In 2006, the FTC announced a settlement involving FuelMAX, Super FuelMAX and similar devices: defendants paid $4.2 million for consumer redress and received a lifetime ban on manufacturing, advertising or selling those products or similar fuel-saving or emissions-reduction devices. See the 2004 FTC announcement and 2006 settlement release.
Does the current ECO/OBD2 device work?
No independently verified result in the available sources shows that the current device improves MPG, power or engine noise. A BBB complaint says the buyer installed the unit three times but it would not connect to the vehicle and received only a partial refund despite a package-level “30 day money back guarantee.” Another complaint describes a blinking ECO/OBD2 unit, no improvement after installation and unanswered refund requests. These are customer allegations, not laboratory findings or BBB conclusions.
The FTC’s consumer factsheet reports that the EPA tested or evaluated more than 100 alleged gas-saving devices and found no product that significantly improved gas mileage. It also warns that some products may damage an engine or substantially increase exhaust emissions. No government agency “approves” a generic fuel-saving gadget for ordinary cars; testing or evaluation is not endorsement. Source: FTC consumer factsheet.
What the BBB record says—and what it cannot prove
The BBB profile for Fuel Save Pro in Hawthorne, California was opened December 12, 2022. It currently shows an F rating because the business did not respond to three complaints, and it is not BBB accredited. The complaints page lists four complaints in the preceding three-year reporting period and none closed in the preceding 12 months. BBB cautions that profiles do not verify third-party information or endorse a product, and complaint counts are not a scientific failure rate.
Accordingly, an F rating is a warning about complaint handling, not proof by itself that the device is fraudulent or ineffective. Read the BBB profile and complaints page in that limited context.

Fuel economy changes with traffic, weather, tire pressure, route, driving style, fuel blend, vehicle condition and simultaneous maintenance. The FTC notes that these variables can confound ordinary before-and-after comparisons. A testimonial claiming better MPG after plugging in a device therefore does not establish causation.
A meaningful test would use the same vehicle and fuel, a repeatable route, consistent load and tire pressure, multiple fill-ups, and a comparison period without the device. It should report raw fuel and distance data, not only dashboard estimates, and be independently replicated. No such controlled result is established in the sources available for this product.
Missing information before you buy
No verified current installation manual, app or firmware release, software version, command syntax, authoritative UI documentation, supported vehicle-year list or compatibility rules was located. Do not assume that a blinking light means the device is communicating with the engine computer, changing fuel maps or improving combustion. Ask the seller, in writing, for:
- the exact legal business name and physical address;
- vehicle compatibility and failure-handling instructions;
- independent, repeatable test data with controls and raw results;
- the complete refund policy, including who pays return shipping and when refunds are issued; and
- clear warnings about diagnostic codes, warranty effects and emissions compliance.
If those answers are unavailable, paying for the device exposes you to product cost, return friction and possible diagnostic or emissions problems without an established benefit. Never alter emissions controls or continue driving if a plug-in device triggers warning lights; remove it and have the vehicle scanned by a qualified technician.
Safer ways to reduce fuel costs
- Keep tires inflated to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and address alignment or dragging brakes.
- Follow the maintenance schedule and repair check-engine or oxygen-sensor faults promptly.
- Combine trips, reduce unnecessary idling and moderate high-speed driving.
- Track miles and gallons over several fill-ups to identify real changes.
These steps have identifiable causes and can be checked against your vehicle’s service information, unlike an unverified plug-in claim.
