Ramina Ashfaque says she started Ashh Scrubs because the scrubs available to her as a nurse did not suit her preferred fit. She describes them as feeling “like a big paper bag on me.” Local 10 reports that she left nursing three months after launching the company to run it full-time, after using her savings and nursing overtime to fund the venture.
Why Ramina Ashfaque started Ashh Scrubs
Ashfaque, whom Local 10 identifies as Ashh Scrubs’ founder and CEO, says her path ran from pageants in her 20s to nursing. While working as a nurse, she disliked the scrubs available to her and decided to make her own. In the profile, she puts it this way: “I did pageants in my 20s, and then I went on to become a nurse, and then I just saw that I didn’t like any of the scrubs that were out there, so, I just decided to make my own.”
Her criticism is personal: she wanted a fitted, more feminine style that suited her. It is not evidence that all nurses dislike traditional scrubs or that one cut works for every body or workplace.
What the profile says about the scrubs
Local 10 describes Ashh Scrubs’ scrubs as fitted. Ashfaque calls them “More girly” and says, “I was always like the skinnier girl, so they all felt like a big paper bag on me.” The profile also reports that the pants come in petite, regular, and tall lengths.

How she funded the move from nursing to business
Ashfaque says she put her savings into the company and worked substantial overtime as a nurse during the COVID period to fund it. She told Local 10: “I bet, pretty much all my savings. I was working like crazy as a nurse, doing super overtime because this was during COVID too. There was so much overtime — I was working, working, working. I was like, I can’t do this anymore. I took every penny I had and put it into this.”
