The cuts were scheduled to begin September 15, 2025.
Because the report concerned planned reductions, it does not independently confirm that all 133 employees ultimately left the company. It also describes one Bellevue office, not a company-wide total.
What happened at FIS?
FIS, a financial-technology and payments-services company, reported plans to cut 133 jobs at its Bellevue office in the Seattle metropolitan area. Bellevue is on Seattle’s Eastside and is a separate city from Seattle.
The reported source was a filing with the Washington State Employment Security Department. The filing listed September 15, 2025, as the scheduled start date for the reductions.

#1 Best Overall
The event was reported on July 15, 2025. As of September 2026, it should be understood as a past, reported layoff event—not as a new August or September 2026 development.
Why did FIS say the cuts were happening?
FIS said it was evolving its embedded-finance strategy. The company said it would prioritize providing embedded-finance capabilities through banks, particularly to help banks serve small and medium-sized businesses and drive deposits.
That is FIS’s stated business rationale. The available reporting does not independently establish that the layoffs resulted from a failed product, weak financial performance, or financial distress.
Rank #2
What does embedded finance mean?
Embedded finance generally means integrating financial products or services into a nontraditional business workflow or customer experience. For example, payments, lending, banking, or other financial functions may be offered within a software platform or business service rather than through a standalone bank branch or financial website.
In this case, FIS’s explanation pointed to a bank-led approach: banks would use FIS capabilities to serve small and medium-sized business customers. The statement did not indicate that FIS was abandoning embedded finance altogether, and the available evidence does not identify a specific product, subsidiary, department, or job category affected by the Bellevue cuts.
Was this a company-wide layoff?
Not based on the evidence available. The filing concerned 133 positions at a particular Bellevue office. It does not establish the total number of FIS layoffs worldwide, nor does it show that the entire Bellevue workforce was eliminated.
Rank #3
It is also inaccurate to treat 133 as FIS’s global reduction figure. A single state filing can document a local workforce action without capturing other changes elsewhere in the company.
How large was FIS at the time?
The July 2025 report described FIS as having more than 50,000 employees worldwide. It also cited first-quarter revenue of $2.5 billion, up 3% year over year.
Those figures provide historical context for the 2025 report. They should not be presented as FIS’s current workforce or revenue figures in 2026, and they cannot by themselves show how financially significant the Bellevue reduction was.
Rank #4
What the report does—and does not—establish
| Established by the reported information | Not established |
|---|---|
| FIS planned to eliminate 133 positions | Whether all 133 positions were ultimately eliminated |
| The affected office was in Bellevue, Washington | The specific roles, teams, or departments affected |
| The planned start date was September 15, 2025 | Whether every termination occurred on that date |
| FIS cited an evolving embedded-finance strategy | Whether the cuts were caused by a particular product’s performance |
| FIS emphasized delivering capabilities through banks serving SMBs | Whether additional layoffs occurred elsewhere |
Important unanswered questions
The available reporting does not provide the job titles or business units involved. It also does not establish whether the positions were all physically based at the Bellevue facility or included remote employees assigned to that office.
There is no verified information in the cited report about contractors, severance, benefits, notice periods, transition assistance, or whether the reductions were voluntary, involuntary, or a combination. The evidence also does not show that the Bellevue office closed or that the cuts were connected to a named FIS brand or platform.
Anonymous employee-forum discussions may mention timing or internal details, but they are not sufficient evidence for definitive claims about headcount, severance, or strategy. The TrueUp layoff tracker provides supplemental corroboration of the Bellevue event, while discussions on TheLayoff.com should be treated only as unverified commentary.

Why the Bellevue cuts matter
Bellevue is a major technology and corporate-employment center in the Seattle region. A filing identifying a triple-digit reduction at one local office is therefore significant for area workers, customers, and the region’s technology labor market.
At the same time, the event illustrates why revenue growth and layoffs can occur together. A company may reorganize staffing around a new customer strategy, concentrate investment in selected business lines, or change how it delivers services without reporting a company-wide collapse. In FIS’s case, the stated shift was toward bank-delivered embedded-finance capabilities, but the filing alone cannot show the full scope or outcome of that strategy.
What a definitive follow-up would need to confirm
- The underlying Washington State Employment Security Department filing.
- The final number of employees affected.
- The roles and business units involved.
- Severance, benefits, and notice arrangements.
- Whether related reductions occurred at other FIS locations.
- The current status of the Bellevue office.
Until those details are independently confirmed, the most accurate description is that FIS planned layoffs affecting 133 positions at its Bellevue office, with the cuts scheduled to begin September 15, 2025.
