The first birthday-based Social Security payment date in October 2026 is Wednesday, October 14. It applies to beneficiaries whose payment is based on a worker’s record with a birthday from the 1st through the 10th. It is not the payment date for everyone: SSI and some Social Security beneficiaries follow other dates.

October 2026 Social Security and SSI payment dates

Date Payment group
October 1 Regular SSI payment date.
October 3 Social Security recipients in the third-of-the-month group, including people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and people receiving both Social Security and SSI.
October 14 Birthday-based group for birthdays on the 1st through the 10th.
October 21 Birthday-based group for birthdays on the 11th through the 20th.
October 28 Birthday-based group for birthdays on the 21st through the 31st.

The dates are listed in the Social Security Administration’s 2026–2027 payment calendar.

Will your Social Security payment arrive on October 14?

If you are on the regular Wednesday schedule, the payment date depends on the birthday of the person whose earnings record supports the benefit—not necessarily the birthday of the person receiving the payment. The SSA assigns the second Wednesday to birthdays from the 1st through the 10th, the third Wednesday to birthdays from the 11th through the 20th, and the fourth Wednesday to birthdays from the 21st through the 31st. See the SSA’s payment-date FAQ for the schedule.

Not everyone uses that birthday schedule. People who receive both Social Security and SSI generally receive SSI on the 1st and Social Security on the 3rd. The SSA handbook also identifies other third-of-the-month cases, including certain beneficiaries whose income is deemed to an SSI recipient, people whose state pays their Medicare premiums, people living abroad, and some continuing or specially handled payment cases. The SSA handbook’s payment-schedule rules describe these exceptions.

What if the payment date falls on a holiday or weekend?

When a regular payment date falls on a weekend or legal public holiday, the SSA says it pays on the preceding business day. The October 14, 21, and 28 birthday-based dates are Wednesdays, so that adjustment does not change those dates. The rule is described in the SSA handbook.

What to do if your October payment is late

If the payment does not arrive on its expected date, the SSA’s 2026 calendar advises allowing three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security. If it is still missing after that period, contact the agency to check your individual payment record. The calendar’s instruction appears in the official payment calendar.
