First Chase, Now Bilt: Hyatt Transfers Take Another Hit

Chase has moved specified Ultimate Rewards cards to a 4:3 Hyatt transfer rate. A similar Bilt change is reported for 2027, but Bilt’s official page still shows 1:1.

Chase’s 4:3 transfer rate to World of Hyatt is in effect for specified Ultimate Rewards cards and application dates. A matching Bilt change is reported for January 1, 2027, but Bilt’s official transfer-partner page, updated September 23, 2026, still lists Hyatt at 1:1. That makes the Chase change confirmed by Chase, while the Bilt change remains a reported future change with an official-source discrepancy.

What the 4:3 rate means for your points

A 4:3 transfer converts four points in the source program into three World of Hyatt points. At that rate, 60,000 Chase or Bilt points would produce 45,000 Hyatt points. To get 60,000 Hyatt points, you would need 80,000 source points. At 1:1, 60,000 source points produce 60,000 Hyatt points.

In other words, 4:3 produces 25% fewer Hyatt points from the same source balance; reaching the same Hyatt balance requires 33⅓% more source points. This is a change in the transfer conversion rate, not evidence that Hyatt increased its award prices. The announcements alone do not establish any change in the number of Hyatt points required for a stay.

Chase’s change is official: check which card and application date apply

Chase announced the 4:3 rate on June 15, 2026, for Ultimate Rewards transfers to World of Hyatt from specified cards. The effective date depends on the card and, for some cardholders, when the account was opened:

  • Sapphire Preferred: Applicants from June 15, 2026, received the 4:3 rate immediately. For applicants from before that date, the change took effect October 1, 2026.
  • Ink Business Preferred: The 4:3 rate took effect October 1, 2026, for existing cardholders and new applicants from that date.
  • Ink Plus and Corporate Flex: Chase’s expanded FAQ also lists these cards as affected from October 1, 2026.

Chase’s announcement lists 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points converting to 750 World of Hyatt points under the new rate. For advice about a specific account, check the card’s current terms and eligibility rather than assuming every Chase card has the same transfer rate. Chase’s announcement and FAQ

The Points Guy reports that Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business retain 1:1 transfers. That detail is attributed to the outlet’s report; it was not independently confirmed against current official terms here. The Points Guy’s report

Bilt’s reported change is not reflected on its official partner page

The Points Guy reported on October 1, 2026, that Bilt will change Hyatt transfers from 1:1 to 4:3 on January 1, 2027, for all members, with no card-tier exception. The outlet’s report discloses that its founder, Brian Kelly, is a Bilt adviser and investor.

However, Bilt’s official transfer-partner page, updated September 23, 2026, still lists Hyatt at 1:1. The available sources therefore conflict about Bilt’s future rate: the 4:3 change is reported, but the cited Bilt page does not confirm it. Check Bilt’s current official terms before making a transfer decision.

Compare the transfer route before moving points

If you have more than one way to earn or transfer points to Hyatt, compare the specific route rather than focusing only on the headline ratio:

  • Eligibility and timing: Confirm which card or Bilt membership rules apply and whether the relevant effective date has passed.
  • Current award availability: Look for the specific Hyatt stay you intend to book before transferring. Availability can change, and a favorable ratio is not useful if the award you want is unavailable.
  • Processing time and reversibility: A transfer may not arrive instantly, and both programs warn that transfers cannot be reversed.
  • Other uses: Consider what else you could do with the source points. The transfer ratios do not by themselves establish which redemption offers better value.

Transfer rules make speculative moves risky

Chase Ultimate Rewards

Chase says eligible partner transfers must be made in 1,000-point increments. Transfers are final and may take up to seven business days, although many complete by the next business day. Chase advises checking award availability before transferring. Chase’s transfer guidance

Bilt Rewards

Bilt requires transfers in 1,000-point increments. The minimum is 2,000 points for Blue members and 1,000 points for Silver, Gold and Platinum members. Bilt says most transfers are immediate but allows up to 48 hours, or 72 hours for Southwest; Bilt transfers cannot be reversed. Bilt recommends confirming partner availability and considering a hold first. Bilt’s transfer-partner terms

Because transfers are final, do not move points speculatively. Confirm the award and the applicable transfer rate, then allow for processing time before relying on the points to book.

What this does—and does not—say about Chase Travel

Chase’s announcement states: “Ultimate Rewards points do not expire as long as accounts are open, and there are no blackout dates or travel restrictions when booking through Chase Travel.” That statement is about booking through Chase Travel; it does not describe the Hyatt transfer ratio or establish availability for a Hyatt award stay.
