Fidelity Investments reported unauthorized network access from August 17 to August 19, 2024. Maine’s breach notice records 77,099 people who had to be notified under applicable laws, including 337 Maine residents. That figure does not include approximately 86,000 additional people or joint account holders whose account and routing numbers were implicated but who Fidelity determined did not meet state-law notification requirements.

Was Fidelity hacked?

How many people were affected?

Maine’s breach database reports 77,099 people affected overall, including 337 Maine residents. The 77,099 figure represents people Fidelity determined had to be notified under applicable laws. The notice record lists written notifications dated October 9, 2024. Maine Attorney General breach notice

A court-filed settlement agreement separately identifies approximately 86,000 additional individuals or joint account holders whose financial account and routing numbers were implicated. Fidelity determined that this additional group was not subject to state-law notification requirements. It is distinct from, and should not be added to or substituted for, the 77,099 notification figure. Court-filed settlement materials

Was my Social Security number exposed?

Not necessarily. The proposed settlement notice says the information varied by individual and may have included names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, and/or driver’s-license information. It does not say that every person had every category exposed. Check the notice you received for information about your own records. Court-filed settlement materials

What should I do after a Fidelity breach notice?

  1. Read your notice. Use it to identify which information Fidelity says may have been involved in your case, and follow any account-specific instructions.
  2. Use the protection offer described in the notice, if you are eligible. Maine’s filing says affected people were offered 24 months of credit monitoring and identity restoration through TransUnion LLC. That record does not establish that enrollment remains open or that every reader is currently eligible; check your notice and the program’s current terms before acting.
