The company initially reported about 200,000 affected members in the Netherlands; it later confirmed to SecurityWeek that approximately 1 million members were affected across its markets.
What Basic-Fit disclosed
Basic-Fit said its monitoring detected the unauthorized access and that the company stopped it within minutes of discovery. The system involved records members’ visits to Basic-Fit clubs. An investigation by external security experts found that some stored information had been downloaded.
The company did not identify the intruder, explain how access was obtained, or say whether the access method had been completely eliminated.
What information was downloaded?
Basic-Fit said the affected records could include:
- Membership information
- Names and addresses
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Dates of birth
- Bank account details
Basic-Fit also said it does not hold members’ identity documents and that no passwords were accessed. Those are statements about the company’s findings and systems, not a guarantee that no other information could be involved in a later development.
