Nine suspects were arrested in Cyprus, Spain and Germany after coordinated European actions targeting an alleged cryptocurrency money-laundering network tied to fake investment platforms. Eurojust said victims were defrauded of more than €600 million; the operation produced approximately €1.515 million in seized or frozen assets. Those figures describe very different things: the first is an alleged scale of losses or laundering, while the second is what authorities reported securing during the raids.
What authorities announced
Eurojust announced the operation on November 4, 2025, following enforcement actions on October 27 and October 29. Nine people were arrested at homes in Cyprus, Spain and Germany on suspicion of involvement in money laundering connected with fraudulent cryptocurrency-investment activity.
The announcement describes an investigation coordinated through Eurojust, the European Union agency that supports cooperation between national prosecutors and judicial authorities. Eurojust did not act as a standalone national police force, and arrests, searches, charging decisions and prosecutions remain matters for the participating countries and their courts.
Eurojust’s account is the controlling public description of the case and is available at its November 4 release.

The €600 million figure versus the money seized
Eurojust said the network had scammed victims out of more than €600 million and separately described approximately €600 million in crypto assets as having been laundered. That is an investigative estimate attributed to authorities, not a final court finding, a confirmed criminal-profit total or the amount recovered for victims.
| Measure | Amount | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Alleged victim losses or crypto assets laundered | More than €600 million / approximately €600 million | Scale stated by Eurojust; not established as a final judicial finding |
| Funds in bank accounts | €800,000 | Reported seizure during the operation |
| Cryptocurrency | €415,000 | Reported crypto seizure |
| Cash | €300,000 | Reported cash seizure |
| Combined reported assets | Approximately €1.515 million | Sum of the three categories above; not a reimbursement figure |
The reported €1.515 million is roughly 0.25% of €600 million. It represents assets authorities said they seized or secured in the operation, not the total financial impact of the alleged scheme and not money that victims automatically receive.

How the alleged investment scam worked
According to Eurojust, the group created dozens of fake cryptocurrency investment platforms designed to resemble legitimate services. The platforms promised high returns and used several forms of social engineering to bring in deposits.
Recruitment and credibility tactics
- Social-media advertising directed potential investors to the platforms.
- Cold callers approached people directly.
- Fabricated news articles made the offers appear to have been covered by reputable media.
- Fake testimonials from celebrities or apparently successful investors supplied borrowed credibility.
From deposit to laundering
Victims transferred cryptocurrency to the platforms and were then unable to recover their funds. Authorities allege that the proceeds were moved and laundered through blockchain transactions. The public account does not describe a blockchain exploit or a theft of wallets; the apparent entry point was conventional investment fraud built on deceptive websites, marketing and impersonation, with crypto used for payment and subsequent movement of funds.

Where the operation took place
The confirmed arrest locations were Cyprus, Spain and Germany. The wider investigation involved five countries, each contributing national judicial or law-enforcement bodies.
| Country | Authorities identified by Eurojust | Role in the confirmed operation |
|---|---|---|
| France | Paris investigative judge, JUNALCO cybercrime unit and Gendarmerie Nationale cyber unit | Investigation and judicial cooperation |
| Belgium | Limburg public prosecutor’s office, investigating judge and Federal Judicial Police Limburg | Investigation and judicial cooperation |
| Cyprus | Attorney General’s Office, MOKAS and Cyprus Police | Investigation, searches and arrests |
| Germany | Cologne Public Prosecutor’s Office and Cologne Criminal Police | Investigation, searches and arrests |
| Spain | Barcelona public prosecutor’s office, Vilanova i la Geltrú investigative court, Mossos d’Esquadra cybercrime personnel and Policía Nacional units | Investigation, searches and arrests |
This was therefore a coordinated cross-border European action, not a confirmed worldwide police raid. The alleged fraud may have reached people in multiple countries, but Eurojust’s announcement confirms five participating countries and three countries where arrests occurred.

How the investigation began
Eurojust said authorities started investigating after receiving several complaints from people who could not recover their investments. French and Belgian authorities formed a joint investigation team, and other countries were brought into planning and executing the takedown.
The public announcement does not give a definitive victim count, a country-by-country victim breakdown or a list of the platforms. It also does not establish that all victims were European.

What remains unknown
- The names, nationalities and alleged roles of the nine suspects.
- The names and domain addresses of the fake investment platforms.
- The blockchain networks, wallets, mixers, exchanges or custodians allegedly used.
- Whether the suspects were formally charged, detained, extradited or later convicted.
- The exact number of victims, transaction count and final loss calculation.
- Whether any seized assets will be returned to victims or through what compensation process.
- Whether particular websites were shut down as a result of the operation.
Those omissions matter. An arrest on suspicion of money laundering is an investigative step, not a conviction, and the suspects remain entitled to the presumption of innocence.
Warning signs in a crypto-investment solicitation
The tactics described in this case are useful for evaluating future offers, regardless of whether a platform accepts cryptocurrency or traditional money.
- Guaranteed or unusually high returns: Legitimate investments carry risk and do not promise effortless profits.
- Celebrity or “expert” endorsements: A testimonial can be fabricated, especially when it appears only in an advertisement or an unfamiliar article.
- Pressure from a cold caller: Do not allow an unsolicited caller to rush a transfer or discourage independent checks.
- A convincing website without verifiable regulation: Check the relevant financial regulator directly rather than relying on a logo or certificate displayed on the site.
- Requests for additional payments to unlock withdrawals: Claims for taxes, release fees, insurance or account upgrades are common escalation tactics in investment fraud.
- Requests for seed phrases, private keys or remote computer access: Never disclose wallet credentials or give an unfamiliar person control of a device.
What to do if you may have been targeted
- Stop sending funds, including purported withdrawal, tax, recovery or verification payments.
- Preserve wallet addresses, transaction hashes, emails, phone numbers, advertisements, domain names, chat logs and screenshots.
- Contact the exchange or payment provider used for the transfer immediately; rapid notification may help them flag or restrict activity.
- Report the suspected fraud to your national police, cybercrime reporting service, financial regulator or consumer-protection authority.
- Be wary of “recovery agents” who demand an upfront payment or claim inside access to investigators.
- Secure unaffected accounts and devices, and never share seed phrases or private keys.
What to watch for next
Further developments would normally come from national prosecutors and courts rather than from Eurojust alone. Relevant updates could include formal charges, court appearances, additional arrests, platform or domain seizures, asset-recovery decisions and any established victim-compensation procedure.
As announced, the case is a major European disruption of an alleged crypto-investment fraud and laundering network. It is not evidence that €600 million has been recovered, nor does the announcement by itself establish guilt or guarantee compensation.
