Ethernovia announced on January 20, 2026, that it closed a Series B funding round of more than $90 million. Maverick Silicon led the round, joined by Socratic Partners, Conduit Capital and CDIB-TEN Capital; existing investors Porsche SE, Qualcomm Ventures and Fall Line Capital also participated. The startup makes Ethernet networking chips and platforms for autonomous vehicles, robots and other machines that sense, compute and act in the physical world.
The financing is notable because Ethernovia sells infrastructure rather than a consumer AI application. It is a bet that moving data predictably between sensors, processors and actuators will become an important constraint as physical-AI systems grow. It is not, by itself, proof of revenue, mass-production contracts or a mature physical-AI market.
What happened in Ethernovia’s Series B
Ethernovia’s January 20, 2026 announcement says the company raised more than $90 million. News coverage often rounds that figure to $90 million, but the company’s wording is “over” or “more than” $90 million.

|---|---|
| Round | Series B |
| Lead investor | Maverick Silicon |
| New investors named | Socratic Partners, Conduit Capital and CDIB-TEN Capital |
| Existing investors participating | Porsche SE, Qualcomm Ventures and Fall Line Capital |
| Stated use of proceeds | Next-generation packet processors, software and systems capabilities, and automotive, robotics and industrial customer engagements |
The announcement does not disclose a valuation, revenue, employee count, production volumes, backlog, launch dates or named mass-production vehicle programs. “Customer engagements” should therefore not be read as confirmed customer wins.

What Ethernovia actually makes
Ethernovia’s product catalog covers networking silicon and integrated platforms. Its position is between a machine’s sensors and its AI compute and control systems.
Ethernet PHY transceivers
A PHY is the physical-layer chip that sends and receives electrical data over a communications link. Ethernovia’s single-pair automotive T1 PHY family supports 10G, 5G, 2.5G and 1G variants, depending on the product, according to its product page. The company says the relevant automotive parts use a 7-nanometer process and target automotive and safety-critical applications. Its 2024 announcement described 10G-to-1G operation over a single twisted pair and distances exceeding 15 meters; that was a sampling announcement, not evidence of volume deployment.
Deterministic packet processors and switches
Packet processors aggregate, route and prioritize traffic from distributed sensors and compute units. Ethernovia describes its deterministic packet processors as providing hardware-accelerated packet handling, traffic management, precise timing and predictable delivery under heavy loads. Those are company descriptions, not independently published performance results.

Physical AI is a broad industry and investment label, not a standardized architecture. Traditional cloud or application AI primarily processes digital information. Physical-AI systems sense an environment, make decisions and affect the physical world.
- Autonomous cars and trucks
- Industrial and mobile robots
- Drones and aircraft systems
- Intelligent manufacturing equipment
- Real-time medical-imaging and sensing systems
Ethernovia’s definition emphasizes sensor fusion, predictable delivery, synchronization between compute and control, functional safety, security and operation under peak load. That is narrower than treating every robotics or AI company as “physical AI.”

Why networking can become a bottleneck
A typical autonomous machine has a data path that looks like this:
- Cameras, lidar, radar and other sensors generate telemetry.
- Network interfaces carry that traffic across the vehicle or machine.
- Packet processors aggregate, prioritize and route it.
- Centralized or distributed compute runs perception, planning and inference.
- Control commands travel back toward actuators.
Peak bandwidth is only one requirement. A vehicle or robot may also need bounded latency, synchronized sensor streams, priority for safety-critical traffic, fault detection, recovery, low power consumption and support for centralized or zonal architectures. As sensors become higher resolution and AI systems process more streams, the interconnect can consume more cost, power and engineering attention.
Ethernet offers a familiar ecosystem, scalable speeds and the ability to consolidate different traffic types. It can support software-defined and zonal designs and may reduce wiring complexity compared with multiple specialized networks. Ordinary Ethernet, however, is not automatically deterministic or safety-certified. Predictable behavior comes from the complete design: switching and scheduling, time synchronization, traffic classes, redundancy, security and functional-safety engineering. Ethernovia’s proposition is to provide specialized PHYs, packet processing and software that make Ethernet a more controlled fabric.

Who invested, and what that signals
Maverick Silicon’s infrastructure focus
Maverick Silicon, described by TechCrunch as Maverick Capital’s semiconductor and computing-infrastructure investment division, led the round. TechCrunch reported that the sector-specific effort was created in 2024 and was Maverick Capital’s first such fund. The significance is strategic: the lead investor is targeting enabling silicon and infrastructure rather than only visible AI applications.
TechCrunch framed the deal as part of investors’ growing interest in suppliers to robotics and autonomous vehicles. One financing does not establish a statistically proven market-wide “rush,” but it is an example of capital moving toward less visible layers of the AI stack.
Strategic backers are not the same as customers
Porsche SE and Qualcomm Ventures provide strategic relevance in automotive and communications silicon. Their participation does not establish that Ethernovia’s chips are installed in mass-production vehicles. AMD Ventures appeared in Ethernovia’s earlier funding coverage and third-party reporting, but it is not listed among the participating investors in the company’s January 2026 Series B announcement; it should not be presented as a Series B participant without that attribution.

Ethernovia’s disclosed financing and milestones
| Date | Disclosure | What it demonstrates—and what it does not |
|---|---|---|
| May 15, 2023 | $64 million Series A | Earlier institutional financing; not a disclosed revenue total |
| September 18, 2023 | Development partnership with Continental | Work on a 7nm high-bandwidth, low-latency automotive switch; not a public production contract |
| 2024 | Single- and quad-port PHY sampling | Company-reported sampling of multi-speed parts; sampling is not volume production |
| January 2026 | CES zonal-architecture demonstration | A company demonstration, not independent validation or a production launch |
| March 2026 | Ethernet Sensor Bridge evaluation availability | An evaluation platform for qualified customers; no public price or volume figures |
Adding the publicly announced $64 million Series A to the more-than-$90-million Series B implies at least more than $154 million across those two rounds. That is a calculation from disclosed rounds, not a company-reported lifetime funding total.
What the funding does—and does not—prove
What it supports
- Ethernovia has attracted capital from investors focused on semiconductors, automotive technology and infrastructure.
- The company is funding further packet-processor development and production, software and systems work, and customer engagements.
- Networking is being treated as an investable component of physical-AI systems, alongside sensors, compute, power, safety and actuators.
What remains unproven
- No revenue, valuation, gross-margin or unit-volume figures have been disclosed in the cited material.
- No named mass-production vehicle program or commercial production schedule has been announced.
- No independent benchmark in the cited material establishes superior latency, power efficiency or throughput against competing solutions.
- There is no evidence that Ethernovia’s architecture will become the dominant interconnect for physical AI.
Higher bandwidth also does not equal safer autonomy. Sensor quality, synchronization, compute, software reliability, redundancy, cybersecurity and system-level validation remain essential. Ethernovia’s technology is one subsystem in that chain.
What this means for investors
For venture and technology investors, the round illustrates an infrastructure thesis: real-world AI needs a “data nervous system” connecting sensors, compute and control, not just larger models. For public-market or personal-finance readers, the more cautious takeaway is that private funding is a signal of investor interest, not a readily investable performance record. Ethernovia is a private B2B semiconductor company; the cited announcements provide no public shares, retail pricing or financial statements from which to value it.
The company still has to turn demonstrations, sampling and development partnerships into qualified designs, repeat orders and production deployments. Long automotive qualification cycles, integration costs, safety certification, software compatibility, incumbent suppliers and changing interconnect architectures are material risks.
