It was a private, executive-level business summit about how interactive entertainment can influence technology, brands, healthcare, education, finance, sports and other industries—not a consumer gaming expo or a replacement for E3.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) first announced iicon for April 27–30, 2026. The event’s official schedule records arrival and a welcome reception on April 27, followed by the main conference program on April 28 and 29 at Fontainebleau Resort. The official site now treats the 2026 event as completed.
What ESA unveiled
iicon stands for Interactive Innovation Conference. The ESA, the U.S. video-game trade association, presented it as a cross-industry forum connecting game-industry leaders with senior decision-makers from adjacent sectors. This ESA is the Entertainment Software Association, not the European Space Agency.
The premise was that interactive entertainment is more than a content category. Game design, real-time 3D, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, online communities and interactive storytelling can also support audience growth, product development, training, education, healthcare and new commercial models. ESA’s announcement described iicon as a gathering for “visionaries, thought leaders and innovators”; in practical terms, it was an invitation-oriented executive conference.

When and where iicon took place
| Detail | What the sources establish |
|---|---|
| Initial announcement | April 27–30, 2026, as reported by GamesBeat and in the ESA ticket announcement. |
| Official operating schedule | April 27–29, 2026. April 27 was an arrival and welcome-reception day; substantive programming ran April 28–29, according to the official agenda. |
| Venue | Fontainebleau Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada. |
| Format | Main-stage conversations, keynotes, curated breakouts, networking and evening entertainment. |
| Current status | Completed. The official site uses past-tense language and invites inquiries about future events. |
The one-day difference between the original April 27–30 window and the official April 27–29 schedule is documented by the sources but not explained by them. It is safest to report both dates rather than silently choosing one.
Who the conference was for
iicon was aimed at C-suite executives, senior business leaders, investors, heads of partnerships and marketing, publishers, platform companies and technology firms. ESA also targeted leaders in sectors where interactive systems may have practical applications.
- Aerospace and defense
- Climate and sustainability
- Education and learning
- Entertainment and media
- Fashion and beauty
- Finance and fintech
- Government and the public sector
- Healthcare and wellness
- Manufacturing and engineering
- Real estate and architecture
- Retail and e-commerce
- Science and research
- Sports and athletics
The ESA’s ticket announcement explicitly said the event was not open to consumers. That distinction matters: iicon was curated for business relationship-building and strategic discussion, not a public show floor, product-launch spectacle or ordinary fan convention. The official event description sets out the audience and sector list.
What was on the agenda
The official post-event agenda grouped sessions into four themes:
Rank #2
Business Opportunity
Sessions examined how immersive and interactive platforms could create growth, deepen engagement and open new commercial opportunities across industries.
Shaping Culture
This strand addressed identity, fandom, global storytelling and the way interactive media influences culture.
Creativity and Innovation
Artificial intelligence, real-time technologies and new approaches to design and collaboration were central to this theme.
Positive Impact
The program considered applications in education, healthcare and broader social outcomes.
Rank #3
The structure combined main-stage discussions with breakouts and private networking. Ubisoft confirmed three sessions covering generative AI in creative work, interactive technology and cultural heritage, and the future of interactive entertainment; its participation is documented in Ubisoft’s event announcement.
Speakers and companies represented
The official event page lists participants associated with Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, Riot Games, Savvy Games Group, Warner Bros. Discovery, adidas, YouTube, Wedbush Securities, WWE, Yahoo, Wicked Saints Studios, Vivrato, Variety and USA Today.
Named speakers included Phillip Waller of adidas, JB Perrette of Warner Bros. Discovery, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities, Jessica Murrey of Wicked Saints Studios, Montez Ford of WWE, Andrew Pedersen of Yahoo and Kendra Johnson of YouTube. The iicon homepage says the 2026 program featured voices from 76 companies. That is an organizer-provided figure, not an independently audited attendance or influence measure.
Why ESA created iicon after E3
GamesBeat reported that ESA did not regard iicon as an E3 replacement. E3 traditionally served consumers, press and game publishers through product reveals, demos and a large exhibition environment. iicon pursued a different gap: a senior-level forum for business strategy and cross-industry relationships after E3’s decline.
Rank #4
| E3’s traditional role | iicon’s stated role |
|---|---|
| Consumer- and media-facing showcase | Executive and business-leadership summit |
| Product reveals and demos | Keynotes, strategic conversations and curated breakouts |
| Large public expo setting | Limited-attendance, invitation-oriented format |
| Primarily focused on game announcements | Focused on interactive technology’s wider business and cultural impact |
| Mainly a gaming-industry audience | Cross-industry leaders, investors and partners |
Calling iicon “the new E3” therefore misstates both its audience and its job. Its relationship to E3 is contextual: ESA sought to maintain a convening role for senior leaders without recreating a consumer trade show.
The business proposition for brands and investors
iicon’s pitch was that companies do not need to publish games to benefit from game-industry expertise. Interactive methods can help organizations:
- Build and retain audiences through participatory experiences.
- Develop stronger consumer loyalty and community.
- Test products, services and virtual environments.
- Use real-time 3D, simulation and immersive tools for training.
- Explore new revenue models and digital commerce.
- Apply interactive storytelling to education, health and cultural projects.
For executives and investors, the relevant question is not whether every industry is becoming a game company. It is whether specific interactive capabilities solve a measurable problem better than a conventional channel. The agenda established the areas ESA wanted leaders to explore; it did not, by itself, prove commercial returns.

Best Value
A practical assessment should separate three layers:
Organizer positioning
ESA’s language presents iicon as an innovation-focused, high-level forum and emphasizes growth, engagement, revenue models and loyalty. Terms such as “game-changing” or “first-of-its-kind,” when used, are promotional claims rather than independent findings.
Program evidence
The four official themes and the confirmed sessions show a genuine attempt to connect games with AI, culture, healthcare, education and other fields. The presence of non-game companies and sectors supports the cross-industry description.
Verifiable outcomes
No source cited here quantifies attendance, signed partnerships, incremental revenue, investment returns or policy outcomes. Those claims should not be inferred from the speaker list or the reported 76-company figure.
What happens next
The official contact page invites inquiries about attending or sponsoring future events and the site promotes updates. It does not confirm a 2027 edition, an annual schedule, ticket prices or sponsorship rates. Organizations considering a future event should treat iicon as a potential executive-networking and thought-leadership opportunity, not as a confirmed recurring conference.
For finance and strategy readers, the lasting significance of iicon is its framing: ESA is presenting interactive entertainment as an innovation sector with applications well beyond game sales. Whether that framing becomes durable business practice will depend on documented case studies, partnerships and measurable outcomes from future activity.
