Elpha Secure announced a $20 million Series A on October 6, 2022, led by Canapi Ventures, to expand through broker networks and develop its cyber insurance and security offering for small and midsize businesses. The announcement did not disclose the company’s valuation, investor check sizes, or how much of the round each participant contributed.
Who invested in Elpha Secure’s Series A?
Elpha Secure Technology Inc. said it completed the round and named six existing investors alongside lead investor Canapi Ventures:
- Canapi Ventures, lead investor
- Stone Point Ventures
- AXIS Capital
- State Farm Ventures
- The Hartford STAG Ventures
- Fermat Capital Management
- EOS Venture Partners
CEO Preetam Dutta said at the time, “We are humbled by the great investors supporting Elpha Secure and we are thrilled to welcome Canapi as a new partner.” The announcement did not state valuation, dilution, individual investment amounts, or a detailed allocation of proceeds. What does Elpha Secure do?
Elpha’s pitch combines commercial cyber insurance with cybersecurity software and support, rather than treating coverage and security measures as separate purchases. The intended customers are small and midsize businesses (SMBs), with distribution through insurance brokers.
#1 Best Overall
In 2022, the company listed encrypted data backups, multifactor authentication (MFA) for remote desktop connections, software version control, and machine-learning anomaly detection with recommended actions. Dutta described the approach this way: “Instead of challenging business owners to define and implement the required cybersecurity measures themselves, we provide these measures through our software as well as the insurance policy.”
Canapi partner Jeffrey Reitman said embedding controls could reduce friction in obtaining cyber insurance and help control loss ratios for carrier partners. That is the investor’s rationale for the model, not a published measure of Elpha’s underwriting results. Elpha Secure’s funding announcement.
How was the $20 million intended to be used?
Elpha said the funding would support growth across broker networks and further product development for SMB cyber defense and response. The release did not provide a budget, hiring plan, or split between distribution and product work. The announced amount therefore describes the size of the Series A, not a disclosed valuation or evidence of financial performance.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
Elpha’s model depends on both broker placement and the terms of an issued insurance policy. The company’s current product page says its offering is provided through wholesale brokers, availability varies by state, and use of its security solution may affect retentions, waiting periods, or restoration periods. Those are company descriptions; policy language governs actual coverage, limits, conditions, and exclusions. Surplus-lines policies may also have protections that differ from admitted policies. Buyers should review the policy and consult a licensed insurance professional. Elpha Secure’s current product information.

A State Farm Ventures announcement dated December 6, 2022 said the policy was backed at that time by AXIS Surplus Insurance Company and Everest Indemnity Insurance Company. That historical description should not be treated as confirmation of current carriers or policy terms. State Farm Ventures’ December 2022 announcement.
For context on earlier financing, Socotra reported in April 2022 that Elpha had raised more than $9 million in seed financing by then, while announcing Elpha’s selection of its insurance platform. That earlier figure is not a complete lifetime fundraising total and should not simply be added to the Series A to claim total capital raised. Socotra’s April 12, 2022 announcement.
