To judge them, check how many treatments were done, how long after treatment the pictures were taken, and whether the images were captured under comparable conditions. Also weigh the limited publicly described study data, recovery, risks and the cost of a full treatment course—not just the most favorable photographs.
What do Ellacor before-and-after photos show?
Ellacor is a medical-professional device that uses hollow needles and vacuum to remove tiny cores of skin. Cytrellis, the manufacturer, describes the process as mechanical: no heat is used or produced, and the body’s healing response closes the small openings. The device’s product page says it can remove up to 8% of skin from a treatment area. That is a maximum device description, not the amount every patient receives or a promise of a particular lift.
The manufacturer’s gallery labels examples with different treatment counts and follow-up intervals, including “3 Months After 1 ellacor Procedure,” “6 Months After 2 ellacor Procedures,” and “1 Month After 1 ellacor Procedure.” Those labels matter: a one-session result at one month is not directly comparable with a two-session result at six months.
The public gallery is illustrative, not a controlled photo study. It does not establish that the cases are a representative sample, that enrollment was consecutive, or that images were independently graded. The public information also does not establish standardized camera settings or consistent lighting and angles. A gallery image pair therefore cannot prove a typical result, a permanent outcome, or a change equivalent to a facelift.

How to assess an individual image pair
- Identify the treated area and the number of sessions.
- Check the interval after the last session—not just the date of the first treatment.
- Compare angle, lighting, expression and camera distance; note visible makeup or concealment.
- Find out whether the images came from the manufacturer or treating practice, and whether the comparison can be independently verified.
If any of these details are missing, treat the photos as an example of a possible appearance, not a basis for estimating your own result.
Who is Ellacor intended for?
Cytrellis states that Ellacor is indicated for medical-professional use to treat moderate to severe wrinkles in the mid and lower face of adults aged 22 or older with Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV. A treating physician assesses suitability. This is a specific facial wrinkle indication; it should not be read as evidence for every kind of skin laxity, for darker skin types, or for body treatment.

The manufacturer’s patient-results page also lists fractional skin resurfacing as an indication. Because indication wording can depend on the current labeling, ask the clinician to explain which labeled use applies to the proposed treatment. Facial wrinkle information should not be extrapolated to body areas: body-specific clearance and outcome evidence are not established by the cited FDA records.
What clinical evidence is behind the results?
Cytrellis says 51 subjects completed its pivotal study. In the group it describes, participants received two to three treatments, with 7–8% skin removal and needle coring depth up to 5 mm. The manufacturer’s live clinical-results page does not state the study year and says detailed pain, healing, aesthetic-improvement and satisfaction data are on file rather than presenting all measures there.

RealSelf reports that a 2019 American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual-meeting presentation showed 90% improvement in moderate or severe wrinkles within six months after up to three treatments, and 86% of participants were satisfied or extremely satisfied. These are figures reported by RealSelf from that presentation, not an independently verified estimate of what a particular patient should expect. They do not replace details about study design, measurement methods and follow-up.
| Reported figure | What it describes | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 51 subjects | Completed the pivotal study | Cytrellis; year not stated on its live clinical-results page |
| 7–8% skin removal; up to 5 mm depth | Treatment parameters reported for the cited pivotal-study group | Cytrellis; not a guaranteed setting for every patient |

How long does recovery take, and what can go wrong?
RealSelf describes recovery as ranging from several days to weeks, depending on treatment settings and individual healing, and says two to three sessions are often recommended. Cytrellis says mild to moderate side effects in its pivotal-study summary may last up to 30 days. These are ranges and study observations, not a downtime guarantee; ask the treating clinician what recovery could mean for work, caregiving and other commitments in your circumstances.

Possible reactions
The manufacturer lists redness, swelling, bruising, burning, dryness, roughness, tightness, crusting, pain or discomfort, tenderness, tingling, bleeding, numbness, peeling and circular marks as possible side effects. Less commonly observed effects include itching, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, hematoma, infection, scarring, skin irregularities, skin necrosis, an uneven appearance and anesthesia complications.
Cytrellis also lists contraindications or situations requiring caution, including certain skin disorders, keloid tendency, active infection, a history of hyperpigmentation, bleeding risk or use of blood thinners, recent procedures in the treatment area, and conditions that may impair healing. This is not a self-screening checklist. Review current labeling and your medical history with a qualified clinician before deciding.

What FDA reports do—and do not—tell you
FDA’s MAUDE database contains individual Ellacor reports describing serious injury and outcomes including scarring, pain, swelling, bleeding or hyperpigmentation. Individual submissions do not establish that the device caused an event; the database also does not provide, by itself, the number of people treated or an event rate. The reports are a reason to discuss risks, not a way to calculate your personal odds.
FDA records show two Class II recalls associated with the device. One record remains marked open as of October 4, 2026, and describes a potential bearing adhesive or handpiece issue that could result in overlapping cores, prolonged healing, skin-texture irregularities or scarring. The record describes corrective action for affected systems; it does not mean every Ellacor device is affected. Ask the clinic whether the specific system it uses was in scope and whether any required corrective action is complete.

There is no head-to-head controlled trial established by the cited sources that shows Ellacor is equivalent or superior to facelift surgery, laser, radiofrequency, ultrasound or another nonsurgical procedure. Compare options by the problem and area being treated, whether an option removes skin, heats or resurfaces tissue, expected scale and duration of change, number of sessions, recovery, complication profile, provider qualifications and total course cost. A clinician should explain the evidence relevant to your goals rather than rely on a gallery alone.
How much does Ellacor cost?
No authoritative current price schedule is established in the cited sources. RealSelf’s cost discussion displays variable estimates without a clearly dated, authoritative fee schedule. Price can depend on location, provider, treatment area and the number of sessions recommended, so request a current written quote rather than relying on a general online estimate.
For a useful financial comparison, ask for the full proposed course in writing: per-session and total fees, what areas are included, how many sessions the quote assumes, and whether any complementary procedure is being recommended and priced separately. Compare that total with alternatives on the basis of the outcome sought and recovery time—not just a single-session price or the appearance of a selected photo.
Quick Recap
Questions to ask before booking
- What specific concern and treatment area are you proposing to address, and how does it fit the device’s current labeling?
- How many sessions do you recommend, and when would you assess the result after the last one?
- Can I see comparable photos with treatment count, follow-up interval, and consistent lighting and angles identified?
- What recovery period should I plan for, and which side effects would require a call or urgent evaluation?
- Is the specific device in your clinic affected by an FDA recall, and has any required corrective action been completed?
- What is the written total cost for the recommended course, including any separately proposed procedures?
