Dymium announced on March 20, 2024, that it had raised $7 million to develop its data-security platform and expand sales and marketing. The California startup’s pitch is to protect sensitive information where it already lives, then apply access policies and transform data in real time—including sanitizing prompts before they reach public or private AI models.

Did Dymium really raise $7 million?

Yes. Dymium announced the funding as it emerged from stealth on March 20, 2024. SecurityWeek reported the round the following day and described Dymium as a Los Gatos, California-based startup with two enterprise-facing data-protection products.

Source of funding Amount Role
Two Bear Capital $5 million Led the round; founder and managing partner Mike Goguen joined Dymium’s board.
Angel investors $2 million Contributed the remainder of the announced round.
Total announced $7 million Dymium said it would use the proceeds for product development and to expand sales and marketing.

Lou Pambianco, Tim Richardson, Melanie Corcoran and Paul Temple joined the company as advisors. The announcement establishes the size and stated purpose of the financing; it does not disclose Dymium’s valuation, revenue, customer retention or independent evidence of product effectiveness.

What is Dymium’s data-security platform?

Dymium describes its platform as a way for users and applications to access data in the format they need while centralized security and compliance policies are applied to each request. Rather than moving information into separate copies for different applications, the company says it transforms data in transit and controls access to the original source. That approach is intended to reduce duplicated stores and the risk of stale copies.

The idea is just-in-time, policy-controlled access: an authorized user or application can receive a permitted, transformed view without being given unrestricted access to the underlying data. In practice, the value depends on how well an organization can define its policies, connect its data and applications, and verify that the controls behave as intended. Dymium’s funding announcement is not independent validation of those outcomes.

How does SecureChat protect AI prompts?

SecureChat is Dymium’s enterprise AI portal, positioned between employees and public or private large language models (LLMs). Dymium says it detects personally identifiable information (PII), payment card information (PCI) and protected health information (PHI) in prompts. If a prompt contains sensitive values, SecureChat substitutes synthetic but similar values before sending it to the selected model. It then reconstitutes the returned response for the user, with the stated aim of keeping the original secrets inside the organization.

  1. Connect the user and model. SecureChat acts as an intermediary rather than having employees send prompts directly to an LLM.
  2. Review and transform sensitive values. The product page says users can review substitutions before sending and that sensitive data is dynamically anonymized.
  3. Send the sanitized prompt. The model receives substituted values instead of the original detected information.
  4. Return a reconstructed response. Dymium says it replaces the synthetic values in the response so the user receives an answer in the context of the original data.

This design is meant to address a specific exposure risk: sensitive information included in a prompt may otherwise be sent to an external or separately hosted model. The available product descriptions do not provide independent accuracy benchmarks for detection, substitution or reconstruction, so organizations should assess those capabilities against their own data and workflows rather than treating the company’s description as a performance guarantee.

What is GhostAI, and how does it relate to SecureChat?

Dymium’s current site describes GhostAI as a secure gateway across four risk layers: models, context, tools and data. The company says it can mask or tokenize sensitive fields at access time, avoid ETL and copied datasets, and create immutable audit logs. SecureChat is specifically presented as an AI portal for protecting prompts and responses; GhostAI is the broader gateway framing on the current site. These descriptions reflect Dymium’s own product materials, not an independent assessment.

  • GhostAPI creates REST APIs from prompts.
  • GhostMCP provides Model Context Protocol (MCP) security through filtered and transformed GhostAPI access.
  • GhostFiles supports redaction for files mounted from SMB, S3, SFTP or Google Drive.
  • GhostLLM exposes an OpenAI-compatible interface to GhostAI.

Can Dymium run on-premises or in an air-gapped environment?

Dymium’s materials describe several deployment options, though the product page and FAQ describe them at different levels. The SecureChat page says it can run as a virtual machine on AWS, Azure or on-premises. The broader platform FAQ says it is offered as AWS-based SaaS and can also be packaged for private cloud, on-premises Kubernetes or air-gapped environments. Those are company-stated options; an organization should confirm which components and operating requirements apply to its intended deployment.

Does Dymium integrate with Okta or Microsoft Entra ID?

Dymium’s FAQ documents OpenID Connect (OIDC) integration with Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Ping and Keycloak. It says group membership is used for authorization. The product page also describes integration with existing identity and access management (IAM) infrastructure. These details matter because access transformation is only useful when the platform can map a request to the right user, application and permissions.

Who might evaluate Dymium?

The platform is aimed at organizations that need to expose data or use AI while controlling access to sensitive information. Likely evaluation teams include enterprise security, privacy and compliance, developers, and data teams. Organizations in healthcare, finance, defense and digital infrastructure may have particular interest because they handle regulated or otherwise sensitive data; that does not establish Dymium’s suitability for any specific regulatory obligation.

Dymium’s March 20, 2024 funding release cited figures of 24.8 million sensitive data files and 61% of organizations storing sensitive data in multiple locations, attributing them to a cited 2024 source. Because the release repeats those figures rather than publishing the underlying study, they should be treated as company-reported context, not as independently verified findings. Dymium’s current site also says 78% of employees use AI weekly, a company-site claim dated 2026.

What should a buyer verify before choosing it?

A funding announcement says that investors backed the company; it does not demonstrate product-market fit or prove that the security controls work under a buyer’s conditions. A practical evaluation should test the product against representative data, identity rules and AI workflows, and compare alternatives on the controls that matter to the organization.

  • Control point: Determine whether enforcement occurs at the data-access layer, the network or document layer, or a combination.
  • Data handling: Establish whether the product transforms data in place, moves it, or creates copies, and how those operations affect existing data pipelines.
  • AI protection: Test sensitive-data detection, substitution, user review and response reconstruction with realistic prompts and edge cases.
  • Policy and identity: Confirm how IAM groups map to permissions and whether policy granularity fits the organization’s needs.
  • Deployment and coverage: Verify the required deployment model, supported data sources, models and AI tools, and the effort needed to integrate them.
  • Auditability: Inspect what is logged, how logs are protected and retained, and whether the records support the organization’s audit requirements.

Dymium has not published pricing in the materials described here. Buyers would need to obtain commercial terms and confirm the implementation and operating requirements directly with the company.
