Freedom Mobile’s current published terms describe a $5 or $10 monthly Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) credit for 24 months—not a universal six-month credit. The six-month wording may refer to a separate, plan-specific offer. Check the terms attached to the exact promotion before signing up; Freedom says offers can change or be cancelled without notice.
How Freedom’s current BYOP credit works
Freedom’s 2026 terms say customers must have a bring-your-own-phone line, stay off a MyTab contract and be on an eligible plan during the promotion period to qualify for the $5 or $10 monthly credit. The credit lasts 24 months while those conditions are met. See Freedom’s terms and conditions.
- When it starts: It appears as a pre-tax bill adjustment beginning on the second bill, not the first.
- When it can be lost: A month without eligibility forfeits that month’s credit; it cannot be made up later. Moving to a non-eligible plan, signing up for MyTab or porting your number away ends eligibility.
- Combining discounts: The current terms allow the credit to be combined with Digital Discount, but not with other recurring discounts.
Why you may have seen “six months”
Freedom’s promotional page lists multiple offers, and their data allowances or promotional periods are not the same thing as the BYOP service credit. For example, its 2026 page lists 10GB when bringing your own phone on a referenced 35GB/$35 offer, a 100GB offer for three or more lines available only to new BYOP lines, and a separate offer of 15GB per month for six months at $25 per month when bringing your number to Freedom. The last is a six-month data offer, not evidence that the BYOP bill credit lasts six months. Check the offer’s own conditions and dates on Freedom’s promotions page; Freedom says promotions may change or be cancelled without notice.
Check these details before you sign up
- Confirm the exact credit and duration. Verify whether the offer is a $5 or $10 monthly bill credit, how many months it applies, the eligible plan and the promotion period. Do not assume a six-month data offer and a BYOP credit are the same promotion.
- Verify your phone’s compatibility. Freedom says a BYOP phone must be compatible with its network. Use its device compatibility tool for your model before activating.
- Keep the line eligible. A BYOP line cannot be on MyTab for this credit. Confirm plan eligibility and whether other recurring discounts would conflict.
- Review your second bill. The credit is a pre-tax adjustment that starts on bill two. If it is missing, check the offer conditions and contact Freedom to ask whether the line and plan qualified.
Freedom says its prepaid plans have no credit check and no contract. You can activate with a standalone SIM card or eSIM; Freedom lists a $10 replacement SIM at its retail stores.

Compare the full plan cost, not just the credit
A temporary monthly credit lowers the bill only while its conditions are satisfied. Before choosing a plan, compare the price after eligible discounts, the data allowance and included destinations against what you expect to use. Freedom says its unlimited plans include 30GB to 100GB of full-speed data, depending on the plan. After the full-speed allowance is used, data continues without overage fees at reduced speeds until the billing cycle ends. On the Freedom Network, Freedom lists post-allotment speeds of 256 kilobits per second download and 128 kilobits per second upload. Confirm the current plan details and any included Canada, U.S. or Mexico roaming on the specific plan page.
