CHAI says its typical engineering offer is worth 1.5 times a candidate’s current total compensation, paid as salary and bonuses, with an option to trade some salary for stock options. That is a company-stated offer policy, not a guaranteed outcome for every candidate or an independently verified pay survey.
What does CHAI mean by “50% more”?
The claim means 1.5 times a candidate’s existing total compensation, not 50% more than their base salary. In an October 2, 2026 announcement, CHAI illustrated it with an engineer whose prior Meta total compensation was $600,000: CHAI said it offered $600,000 in annual base salary plus $300,000 in bonuses, for $900,000 in total cash compensation. The example is reported by CHAI and is not an independently verified offer or a universal pay guarantee. CHAI’s announcement
The distinction matters: in that example, the new base salary alone matched the engineer’s previous total compensation. The additional $300,000 came from bonuses. A candidate comparing offers should therefore separate guaranteed salary from bonus payments rather than treating the headline multiple as a base-pay increase.
How does CHAI describe the compensation package?
Salary and bonuses
CHAI describes a typical package as approximately 75% base salary and 25% bonuses. It says bonuses are sign-on and retention payments, rather than amounts tied to performance ratings, and that sign-on bonuses are not clawed back. The $600,000 salary plus $300,000 bonus example has a different mix, so the 75/25 split should be read as a general description, not a fixed formula for every offer. CHAI’s announcement

CHAI also says second-year compensation is often equal to or higher than first-year compensation. The public descriptions do not set out a written bonus agreement or role-by-role pay bands. Candidates need to confirm the terms in their own offer documents.
Optional stock options
CHAI says candidates can choose to exchange part of salary for stock options. That is an optional change to the compensation mix, not additional guaranteed cash. Options carry a different risk profile, and their eventual value depends on their terms and what happens to the company. CHAI’s public materials cited here do not specify option quantity, strike price, vesting schedule, exercise window, tax treatment or liquidity.

What does CHAI’s careers page say about applying?
CHAI’s careers page describes its offers as all-cash and at least 1.5 times existing total compensation; read alongside its announcement, the company also presents salary-for-options as an option for candidates who want it. The page outlines this process:
- Initial call: a 20-minute conversation.
- Personality assessment.
- Take-home challenge: typically 60–90 minutes.
- Onsite stage.
- Offer: CHAI says an offer may arrive within seven days of first contact.
These are current statements on CHAI’s careers page, not independent guarantees that every applicant will follow the same schedule or receive an offer.

How does the claim compare with other compensation figures?
CHAI’s announcement cites Levels.fyi U.S. Meta software-engineer data accessed October 2, 2026: approximately $752,000 in annual total compensation at E6, including roughly $276,000 base salary and $431,000 in stock. Those figures are context for the role stock can play in big-tech compensation; they are not CHAI’s pay band and are not the same person or offer as CHAI’s $600,000 example. Levels.fyi also publishes separate, submission-based CHAI salary records. Its CHAI salary page was last updated September 29, 2026 and displays software-engineer records from L4 to L5 and a software engineering manager figure. These records are distinct from CHAI’s announcement and may change as new submissions are added. Levels.fyi CHAI salary data

What is known about CHAI as an employer?
CHAI’s October 2 announcement describes CHAI Research Corp. as a Palo Alto social AI company founded in 2021, building a user-generated AI character platform, and names CoreWeave and AMD Ventures as backers. Those details come from the company’s announcement. CHAI’s announcement
The same release reported $120 million in annualized revenue run-rate, 15–20 employees and $55 million raised to date as of October 1, 2026. CHAI labeled those financial figures unaudited; annualized run-rate extrapolates current revenue to a full year. They are company-reported figures, not audited results.

CHAI’s application page gives a different snapshot of operating metrics: more than 5,000 GPUs, 1.2 trillion tokens served per day, 51,000 unique LLMs served, more than 1.4 exaflops of cluster compute performance, and 10M+ users served. It also describes 2 million people a day in its recruiting pitch. The page lists an $87 million annualized run-rate and 228% growth over the last 12 months. These are company-page claims; their definitions and dates are not clearly reconciled with the newer October 2 release, which reports a $120 million run-rate and refers to more than one million daily users. Treat them as different dated company statements, not as independently established or directly comparable figures. CHAI’s application page

Before comparing a headline total with another job offer, get the candidate-specific terms in writing and assess the components separately:
- Base salary: the annual amount paid as salary, apart from bonuses or equity.
- Bonus details: sign-on and retention amounts, payment dates, whether each is contractually guaranteed, and what happens if employment ends.
- Later-year compensation: whether the second-year figure is stated in the offer and what conditions apply.
- Equity choice: whether the salary-for-options exchange is available on the actual offer, and the option terms and potential risks.
- Comparable role: account for role, level and location when comparing compensation data.
- Current package: identify what counts toward existing total compensation, including stock and bonuses, before applying a 1.5× multiple.
CHAI’s public descriptions do not establish individual bonus contracts or candidate-specific option terms. A headline comparison is useful only when the competing packages are valued on the same basis.
