Amazon added direct Venmo checkout for U.S. shoppers in 2022, but that option ended on January 10, 2024. As of August 18, 2026, no current Amazon relaunch is verified in the cited sources. A Venmo debit or credit card may still work as an ordinary card payment; that is different from connecting a Venmo account or paying directly from a Venmo balance.
What Amazon announced in 2022
On October 25, 2022, Amazon announced that customers in the United States would be able to use Venmo on Amazon.com and in the Amazon mobile app. The rollout began with selected customers, and Amazon said it planned to make the option broadly available by Black Friday, November 25, 2022. That was a target date, not independent confirmation that every U.S. account had access by then. Amazon’s announcement
The integration let a shopper connect a Venmo account to Amazon, select it at checkout, and optionally set it as the default payment method. Amazon said eligible purchases were covered by its A-to-z Guarantee and Venmo Purchase Protection. Those statements concerned the original integration; they do not establish the protections for a purchase made with a Venmo-branded card today. Amazon’s announcement

A contemporaneous guide also said customers could manage the connection in Venmo under Settings → Connected Businesses. CBS’s account of the original setup

Why the Venmo option was removed
The public statements reported at the time did not give a detailed reason. The notice described “recent changes,” and PayPal said Amazon and Venmo had agreed to disable Venmo as an Amazon payment option “at this time.” The cited statements do not establish that fees, fraud, regulation, strategy, or a technical failure caused the decision. What “using Venmo on Amazon” means now
| Payment route | What it means | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Venmo checkout | Amazon connects to a Venmo account as an authorized merchant. | The former Amazon connection is no longer a verified checkout option. Do not expect to see Venmo as a native Amazon wallet method. Payments Dive |
| Venmo debit or credit card | Amazon processes the card through its normal card-payment route. | A Venmo-branded card may be usable where Amazon accepts that card, but it is not the old account integration. Bloomberg |
| Venmo balance | Balance spending through Venmo checkout depends on a participating or authorized merchant and the payment options that merchant supports. | Entering Venmo card details does not establish that the purchase is drawing directly from the Venmo balance. Venmo describes merchant purchases as dependent on supported merchant arrangements. Venmo payment help |
Venmo’s current help pages describe purchases through participating or authorized merchants and selected apps or websites; they do not identify Amazon as an active direct-checkout partner. That supports saying no relaunch is verified in the cited material as of August 18, 2026—not that a future relaunch is impossible. Venmo: Paying with Venmo; Venmo: buying goods and services

Watch for outdated instructions and similar services
- An old screenshot or search result showing Add a Venmo account may depict the 2022–2023 interface, not the current checkout.
- Venmo working at another retailer does not mean Amazon supports it; merchant participation is specific to the merchant.
- A Venmo card appearing in an Amazon wallet is evidence of a card payment method, not proof of native Venmo checkout.
- Amazon Pay is a separate service for payment on participating third-party sites; it is not the former Venmo option on Amazon.com. Amazon Pay help
