Its parent company won a 2024 bankruptcy auction for Infowars-related assets, but a judge rejected that sale. A separate 2026 proposal to license Infowars intellectual property to an Onion affiliate was also blocked from proceeding while court orders remained in place, according to Law360’s September 9, 2026 report.
How the two proposed deals differ
The 2024 auction and the 2026 license proposal were separate attempts to gain rights connected to Infowars. Neither resulted in a completed Onion takeover.
| Issue | 2024 bankruptcy auction | 2026 proposed license |
|---|---|---|
| Who was involved | Global Tetrahedron, The Onion’s parent company, was named the winning bidder. (2024 bankruptcy-court reporting) | War Is Over LLC, an affiliate of Global Tetrahedron, was the proposed licensee. (Bloomberg Law, 2026) |
| What was sought | Infowars-related assets through a bankruptcy sale. (2024 bankruptcy-court reporting) | A temporary license to Infowars intellectual property, including its trademark and associated domains. (Bloomberg Law, 2026) |
| Financial terms | The reviewed reporting does not state a sale price that should be treated as a completed payment. | $81,000 per month for an initial six-month term was proposed; it was a licensing fee, not a purchase price or confirmed payment. (Bloomberg Law, 2026) |
| Legal outcome in the reviewed reports | A bankruptcy judge rejected the sale in December 2024. | The proposed transfer was paused in April 2026, and September 2026 reporting said court orders blocking the receiver’s control and proposed license remained in place. |
Why the 2024 auction did not transfer Infowars to The Onion
Global Tetrahedron was named the winning bidder at a November 2024 auction for Infowars-related assets. That made it the winning bidder, not the owner. In December, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez rejected the sale. Reporting on the decision cited concerns about the auction process, including whether it had produced the best possible bids. The rejected sale did not transfer Infowars to The Onion.
What The Onion affiliate proposed in 2026
In April 2026, a court-appointed receiver proposed a different arrangement: licensing Infowars intellectual property to War Is Over LLC, a Global Tetrahedron affiliate. The proposal covered the trademark and associated domains and required court approval. Bloomberg Law reported proposed fees of $81,000 a month for an initial six months. If that full term had been approved and run, the stated monthly fee would have amounted to $486,000; that arithmetic is not evidence that the term was approved, that any payment was made, or that the license took effect.

What the latest reported court action means
On April 29, 2026, the Texas Third Court of Appeals paused a proposed transfer, according to the Associated Press. A scheduled state-court hearing became a status conference. Later, on September 9, Law360 reported that the Texas Supreme Court denied Sandy Hook families’ requests to dissolve lower-court orders blocking the receiver from assuming control and leasing the intellectual property to The Onion. That ruling did not establish that The Onion owned Infowars or that the proposed license had been approved.
The latest outcome in these reports is therefore a blocked proposed license, not a completed acquisition. The court dispute may continue, and the reviewed reporting does not establish a transfer or later court action after September 9, 2026.

Separate litigation amounts are not deal prices
The Associated Press reported in August 2026 that Alex Jones could be forced to pay about $6 million on one Texas judgment. The AP said that appeals ruling did not affect the separate Connecticut judgment. That litigation amount is unrelated to the proposed $81,000 monthly license fee and should not be read as the price of Infowars or an amount paid to acquire it.

The Associated Press reported in April 2026 that The Onion was selling Infowars-logo parody T-shirts and tote bags on its own website. These are Onion parody products, not evidence of ownership or official Infowars merchandise. No Amazon listing is established by the available reporting.
