There is no verified public total for what Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia ultimately earned from their April 20, 2024 fight. Before the bout, Bill Haney said the split favored Garcia 55–45, but the exact amounts were unknown. Later reporting put Garcia’s disclosed contract purse at $1.2 million, with guaranteed earnings of millions more. Those figures describe different things—not either fighter’s confirmed all-in take-home pay.

What was the reported Haney–Garcia purse split?

Before the fight, The Sporting News reported that Haney’s father, Bill Haney, said Garcia had the larger share, at 55% to Haney’s 45%. That was an attributed account of the deal, not an official commission disclosure or a published contract. The same report said the precise purse amounts were unknown.

A percentage split does not reveal either fighter’s dollar earnings unless the total pool and the terms defining it are known. The available reporting does not establish a verified total pool, a complete payout for Haney, or final all-in earnings for Garcia.

How much was Ryan Garcia reported to earn?

On June 20, 2024, ESPN reported that Garcia’s disclosed contract purse was $1.2 million, while his guaranteed earnings were millions more. The disclosed purse is therefore not a reliable stand-in for his total compensation. ESPN did not provide an audited breakdown or an exact all-in figure.

“Purse” can also have a broader regulatory meaning than a single disclosed contract amount. Nevada’s administrative code, for example, defines it to include a financial guarantee and certain shares of broadcast-rights payments, bonuses, or other payments above that guarantee. That is a Nevada rule, not the governing commission record for this New York bout or evidence of either fighter’s contract terms. See Nevada Administrative Code Chapter 467.

How much did Garcia agree to pay Haney for missing weight?

Garcia weighed 143.2 pounds at the weigh-in, 3.2 pounds above the 140-pound limit. ESPN reported on April 19, 2024, citing sources, that Garcia agreed to forfeit upward of $600,000 of his purse to Haney so the fight could go ahead.

That reported weight-miss payment is separate from the 55–45 split and from the later commission action. It should not be added to or subtracted from other reported figures to manufacture a final payout total: the available accounts do not provide a complete accounting of what each fighter received.

What happened to the purse after the fight?

The fight took place on April 20, 2024. Matchroom’s event page records Garcia as the majority-decision winner on fight night. Matchroom’s event record reflects the original result, not the later disciplinary ruling.

In June 2024, the New York State Athletic Commission issued a consent order changing Garcia’s win to a no-contest and forfeiting his official contract purse. The commission also imposed a $10,000 fine. MMA Fighting reproduced the commission’s statement, and ESPN reported the ruling, including the distinction between Garcia’s $1.2 million disclosed purse and his larger reported guarantees.

The commission’s order addressed Garcia’s official contract purse. It does not establish that every form of compensation was forfeited, resolve any separate contractual or civil dispute, or provide a final payout for Haney. The suspension deadline announced in the 2024 order was April 20, 2025, subject to Garcia providing a clean urinalysis; that was the order’s stated term, not a current suspension.

What can be said about each fighter’s earnings?

Question What the reporting establishes
Who had the larger reported share? Bill Haney was reported by The Sporting News to have said Garcia’s share was 55% and Haney’s 45%. This was not an official published contract disclosure.
What was Garcia’s disclosed contract purse? ESPN reported $1.2 million and said his guaranteed earnings were millions more; it did not establish an exact all-in total.
What did Garcia agree to for missing weight? ESPN reported an agreement to forfeit upward of $600,000 of his purse to Haney so the bout could proceed.
What did the New York commission later do? It changed Garcia’s win to a no-contest, forfeited his official contract purse, and imposed a $10,000 fine, according to its statement reproduced by MMA Fighting and reported by ESPN.
What did Haney ultimately earn? A verified final total is not stated in the cited reporting.

These figures have different bases and describe different moments: a reported split, a disclosed contract amount, a weight-miss agreement, and a later regulatory forfeiture. None is a substantiated same-basis, final earnings comparison for both fighters.
